  1. really Bozzy? so what if scouserpool fail to come up with the reddies, and GB remains at VP past the transfer window? Loan him out to someone. How will that really benefit us? I think he's gone, and i think Scouserpool will have to come up with the money one way or another. But if they pull out, and GB stays, I think he plays. I can't see how he wouldn't play, unless he's deemed simply not good enough to make the 1st 11, which would seem a little odd, given what's going on now.
  2. I think barry is a better Premier league player than Alonso, which is why I think Scoserpool are in for him. He can control the tempo of the game, when on form. I also think he is a tad quicker than given credit for. I also think he might be making a mistake joining them, as his pitch time will be limited. I have my doubts that he's better than Mascherano or Gerrard, so just where will he play? I think he has been temporarily blinded by Liverpool's interest, and in 5 or 6 months could be very unhappy at LFC, having thrown away all the good things he had here. He could end up a peripheral player at LFC, lose his england place and have a career in nosedive. Having said that, i do wish him well, as i think he has served us well for 10 years. I just hope we replace him with as good as/better. Over to you, Martin.
  3. any basis for this comment? any evidence at all?
  4. i agree with this! earlier today, my gloryhuntng mate phoned me up to say that villa are now in the $h!t teams around us, tottenham, man city and everton are all buying top world class players, and we are giving in to bully bully tactics and selling our best players! and hes right, we are getting weaker, by not buying player when we sell players, and selling our best players, so in theory, our squad is getting smaller oh woe is me. I'd jump out of the nearest windown now fella, as there seems no coming back from this. We're all doomed! Where's Mr Mainwaring again?
  5. that's where i'm at too, scott. I can't see him playing WITH Big John, TBH. so does he play instead of him? Or does he warm the bench as back up to BJ? or will MON go with 2 big men up front? would be an interesting signing .....
  6. who would, i would guess, tend to be slightly more pro - monarchy? thingh is, without being sick about it, as the older generation "die off", support for the monarchy declines amongst the gen pub.
  7. anyone surprised to see Republic 49 -33 up, against Monarchy? Not em. I wonder how representative this poll is, on a fopotball message board. Certainly won't be many women voting in this poll. Would they be any more pro Monarchy than us blokes?
  8. indeed. constituency is just down the road from me too. why does Macc never get these type of candidates. Or that Flying Brick (Monster raving loony) guy.
  9. Can we still vote in this poll? If so, i'm going to vote for Ed Timpy, as I think he's got every chance ....
  10. Eh?? He invented the so-called "Pop Idol" Politics, based on spin and bullshit! Nick. There is a difference between Poportional Representation and "Public Relations". I think you may be confusing the two ....
  11. that is very true, and is one of the problems associated with the FPTP voting system in this country. it can be quite polemic, and the incumbent government, knowing they're not going to be in power beyond the next 2 years, have no reason to "leave things in good shape" for their "rivals/successors", other than a sense of public service/spirit, and it's debatable how much of this many top politicians have. this government may well start implementing policies for purely short term gain, which might not be very good for the country at all. FWIW, i am something of a believer in PR. It's arguable that under a form of PR, things like the Poll Tax and the 10p tax issue might never have happened.
  12. a great advert for the game in terms of football and excitement. a poor advert for the game in terms of harassing the referee and gamesmanship. watched the game, sadlt, with my Utd supporting GF and her brothers, and shed loads of wanky Utd supporting glory hunters (pub in middlewich, about 45 minutes drive from United, so not really local). It's made me dislike them just as much as the red scouse now.
  13. I agree. Chelsea were the better team on the night. I hate Man Utd and feel like they get so many lucky breaks. Van der Saar was beaten and Terry slipped. But Chelsea should have done more with all of the possession and shots they had. yep, i thought chelsea just edged it. United much better 1st half, but was all chelsea 2nd. Utd did get a few decisions which i found odd. quite a few throw ins and corners chelsea should have had but didn't. but then again chelsea were pretty lucky with their goal. Shame the way JT missed the penalty - reminded me of Beckham for England when he slipped at the crucial moment too. I suspect the pitch may have been partly to blame ....
  14. I'm torn. Normally it would be ABU (unless it's Liverpool, then it goes ABL, then ABU) unless Utd were playing a European side, and then i'd just about want them to win. But as it's Chelsea, i'd want them to win it. But my new GF is a Utd fan, and am wathcing the game tonight in the boozer with her and her brothers ....... so i'm going to have to manitain some sort of neutral stance, and i'm not going to like the outcome either way, as i dislike Manu, but don't want to seemy GF upset either. Feck. Would rather watch it on my own TBH.
  15. It's not though Ian. Power that cannot be wielded or executed is, quite simply, an impotent power. It's vacuous power. It's not there, in reality. To claim it is is a little disingenuous. the monarchy has, in practice, no power whatsoever over the way in which this country is governed/run.
  16. hey, don't diss the Hoff. He has no prententions of becoming a political figure, so need need to pick on him! :winkold:
  17. they should be hung ? they're always the wrong side of plastered? they're a-peeling? they cling on to the bitter end, before folding?
  18. what about speculative polls?
  19. agreed trickie. He could/should have gone to the polls then, it was his best/only chance. But TBH i think he was scared he would lose, and seeing how he had waited for so long to get into his position of power as PM, he did not want to risk losing it. He wanted his 2 years of power, as clearly that is all he is in it for, IMO. He could ruin labour for a few years, this eeejut.
  20. spot on Gareth. Keep the buildings/history, and have them as tourist attractions, relics if you like to a bygone age. The tourists will still flock to see the history, not the people, as you don't get to see them now anyway. I'd like an elected head of state i think, although i'm not sure i'd trust the general public to vote in someone suitable. we'd end up with someone like Jade Goody as head of state! we'd be a laughing stock ...
  21. Firm Republican here. Not a fan of position/privilege through birth.
  22. Oh. I'm going to go with 808 state then, as i've not heard of FSOL! well, i probably have heard some of their stuff, but don't actively know of their work
