  1. edit: talking nonsense. sorry.
  2. Faroe Islands methinks - just been on FIFA's website
  3. you're not English though, pelle? :? what's the attraction of following england for you?
  4. The country you were born in is United Kingdom. England is not a country, fact. i find it quite weird that wer have an "England" football team that only English players can play (not welsh or scottish etc (hargreaves aside)). we have an "England" cricket team that Welsh, Scottish, English etc can play in (and sometimes even South Africans and Aussies etc). We have a British Olympics team, that any of the home nations can play in. seems we can't quite make up our minds .....
  5. Ditto.Couldn't care less. so, you haven't "lost interest" then? You were just never that interested anyway? Fair doo's, but a completely different argument/point. Or if you have "lost interest" at some point, why? Too many years of dissapointment? what would bring the interest back? Villa have had many years of dissapointment IMO, especially since the mid 80s. But I have not "lost interest" in them, and hopefully never will. Losing interest is, IMHO, the easy way out .....
  6. Fair Doo's Peter. I just think we as a nation could do with getting over ther whole St Georgre's Cross/England Football Top = far Right/NF/Hooligan type image. I think/hope it belongs more in the past. Personally, i feel quite proud to wear what i would consider a quite tasteful Cotton Traders White Polo Shirt, with st george's cross across it, and would like to think people don't think i'm a chavy thug for doing so. ...... although i do have short hair too, so ..... :winkold:
  7. :? But not a Villa one? :? you are joking right? A Villa shirt, becasue of those superb colours is, in its long sleeved variety anyway, a relatively classy thing, like the club is comes from in many ways. the current Villa shirt exudes "Trinity Road". I wouldnt wear one personally, but I dont find the sight offensive. my 12 year old wears a Villa shirt, but not to anywhere nice England shirts are just chavtastic - the away shirt carries a certain something, but the home shirt has always in my mind been associated with the wrong type of person and is now right up there with burberry, Man united/Liverpool shirts and bling as the very definition of chavdom. IMHO, that is very stereotypical and ill thougth out, Peter. I have seen many "idiots/chavs/whatever you want to label people as" wearing Villa shirts, just as I have Engalnd ones. I don't see how you can seperate the two, i really don't, and the argument that "the shirt carries a certain something" doesn't really clarify matters, IMHO. FWIW, I have a t-shirt with a St George's cross on it which i wear for most england games. I also have a claret n Blue top which i wear for villa games. I have worn an Engalnd football shirt in the past, and worn it with pride, and don't see any chav connotations over and above wearing any club shirt, TBH. or are you associating wearing an england top with far right wing Xenophobia etc? That's a different topic IMO, but i also wouldn't really agree with that either.
  8. Is this an 'i told you so' moment? And to think of all the people who missed it cause they had lost faith. i think it qualifies as that, yes  :winkold:
  9. Great game last night. Great display. Great guts. Great football. Great result. Great team selection. Ahhhh. The sweet smell of sticking with your team when others have lost faith and having that faith rewarded. Onwards and upwards, Fab Cap. 8)
  10. and what way would that be exactly? :? what is "The English way"? Lumping it up for a Big Man up front? :? I really don't know what this statement means. Seems potentially xenophobic AFAIK, the tam for the game tonight has not been disclosed, so how do you know who is playing? Also, Rooney, whilst not scoring, contributes one hell of a lot for the team, and is a very good player, and the best striker we have. He won the PL with his club, and the CL too. Definitely a good player, and better than most other options a laughable statement. I can appreciate this can be an emotive topic, but that is a bizzare statement. not since Sherigham there isn't. As the deeper lying striker, he is a very valubale asset. The problem is, we don't heave a decent, fit spearhead/lead striker for him to feed and play off. Hence Emily Heskey getting a game. Yes, you can. I think we are an infintely better side with Fab Cap at the helm. A manager who has proved himself at the top level, with some top players at his disposal. I'd like to think our boys can do well out there tonight. they are good enough to get a decent result.
  11. I think there is an awful lot of truth in that, Al. The issues seems to be, from reading this thread and other media sources, that people: a. don't like they way england are playing b. think they should be getting better results c. think different players (often ones from "their" team) should be playing If you don't have a bit interst in the English football team, then fine, no problem, but that is not really "losing interest" as not having much interest in the first place (see PB's post). But if people are "losing interest" due to a, b or c, then an improvemnet in a, b or c would seemingly increase said interest again, and surely that is, be definition, fickle? "I'll only support Engalnd if they are playing well and picking the "rigfht" players and winning." I find that a very poor attitude. Ther could always be an option d. whereby people have lost faith in The England team overall, due to years of dissapointment. But if said people start flocking back becuase we start doing well again, i's day that was pretty fickle too ....
  12. i can appreciate that. Somehow, i manage to be able to do that quite quickly. and then dislike them again after the game :winkold:
  13. What post? think he must have meant thread, wiggy. :winkold:
  14. everyone seemed quite happy with capello when he was picking Ash, Gabby, Barry and Davies I wonder why Villa fans don't like him anymore ...... and i wonder if this poll might be different should we beat Croatia tonight> So far, Fab Cap's competitive England record reads: played 1. Won 1. Let's not condemn the man just yet, hey? :?
  15. yep - that's where i'm at too. I can't just pick and choose when to support England at Football. I've grown up with it. It's in my system. the high's and low's of supporting England make us what we are.
  16. Well at least there is 2 of us on this forum that are still proud to be English, and are willing to support our country through thick and thin. x3, fella please see my above post. I still think we can build Jerusalem on England's green and pleasant land.
  17. I will always follow England, like I will always follow Villa, irrespective in the most part of who is the manager and who the players are. Villa are my team. England are my team. and if i had to choose between the two, although it would be hard, i'd go with England, as the atmosphere and camaraderie you get from following England home and abroad can be superb. do people lose intersst in villa if we are not doing so well or not picking the players you think we should? Shame on you if you do. By all means disagree with things, and make your opinions known. But to "give up" on either Villa or England, for me, is not an option.
  18. as much chance as anyone else. I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of him during the half team interval ....
  19. my money would probably be on Gus too. Ticks all the right boxes for me.
  20. TBF, I think all of the tabloids are guilty of that ....
  21. Who is the most accurate source of Villa rumours? MYSTERYMAN, of course
