  1. Yup - thats sort of where Im at. The swansea game was the killer for me ....it was a 'Have we turned the corner or just beaten some utter dross' - We need a shock win - and soon IMO. I don't see TS staying if we go down
  2. This x 100 I find it incredible that some have written him off after 10 games. I think people forget what a mess the club was in when he took over. It wasn't so long ago some people were saying Lambert needed 2-3 years to turn things around. Sherwood has made a marked improvement on the dross we were served up by St Paul imo. Were palace in less of a mess? West brom? Massive improvements with average managers at the helm for those teams. We've just got ourselves another crap manager. That would be great point if only it had any statistical or factual merit. Sherwoods first 7 League - Won 2, Drawn 1, Lost 4, scored 11, conceeded 11, points 7, Goal Difference 0 Pulis first 7, Won 3, Drawn 3, Lost 1, scored 6, conceeded 5, points 12, goal difference +1. (Currently on 15 points from 11 games, g difference - 5) Pardew first 7, Won 3, Drawn 1, Lost 3, scored 10, comceeded 9, points 10, goal difference +1. (Now at 19 from 11 games, +4 goals.) Yet you say they wrought, Quote 'Massive Improvements". So basically if we had scored 1 more goal and turned a draw to a win he would pretty much match these apparently far superior managers. And neither of those inherited a Club who simply couldnt score goals. In Pulis case, you would also have been knocked out the FA Cup by your rivals, and have to watch dire football. Sadly its such small margins that could relegate us - and extra 2 points would be massive at this stage.
  3. its an improvement - I think 99% would agree. Whether its enough of an improvement is open to question IMO So what would have been acceptable improvement if what we've seen isn't? 1 more win? 2 more wins? I think you can work that out for yourself - but look at the home games Stoke - L Swansea -L WBA -W QPR - D I don't think 4 pts from those games is going to be enough - It also doesn't bode well for our remaining games. - At the end of the day it matters not what I think is acceptable - its whats gets us 4th bottom why did people seem to assume that Stoke and Swansea are some sort of walkover? their nearly 20 points ahead of us for a reason Fair point - But so are Everton and West Ham - two forthcoming home games. My point is to survive we have no option but to beat such teams ....thus far the track record ain't great

  5. by the law of averages we must win another home game soon.......hopefully Everton.....

  7. The way you defended Lambert for so long and are so quick to jump on his replacement shows there's little point answering your question seriously. Yeah and I still say Lambert did a good job to keep us up for 2 seasons but this season proved too much and he lost control, the job he took on was massive and if we get through this season still in the Premier League and with new owners and a bright future he will deserve a lot of credit. I'd be happy for Sherwood to be given a proper shot at things here beyond this season because he could then bring in his own players that would suit his style and hopefully would have larger transfer funds than have been available since Lambert took over. My issue is atm Sherwood is making some really dumb decisions that are costing us. It seems he can't stray away from a 442 and see a game out. It's too one dimensional and it could be said that this has cost us 3 points by losing the late goal to Swansea and losing the second half tonight. I see positive signs in his management style but he is as inexperienced as they come and it is showing. He is inexperienced and will make mistakes but does anyone think we were in a position to get a manger that wouldn't make any mistakes? We've ended up with a Tim Sherwood because Lerner and Lambert have both performed poorly for the last few years. If we didn't have Sherwood we'd have someone else in who wasn't a great manager probably making different mistakes and a section of fans would be moaning about them. This is the situation we're in and that's not down to Sherwood or anyone else who would have taken this job in this situation. If we get relegated then he'd have failed and played a small part behind lambert and lerner in ruining this club. It's all about survival though and I see little point jumping on him and moaning about every little thing some think are mistakes. On Feb 9 Sherwood was the only feasible option - 2 questions spring to mind The decision making that Let Lambert go on so long is highly questionable Could a more Savvy CEO have (against all odds) plucked someone from somewhere more experienced than Sherwood - like Palace with Pardew, Saints with Pochenitti I will be honest I m not convinced by TS by any means - but the mess above him is more of the issue IMO
  8. yet you knock him in every thread Depends what you mean by knock. I don't think he is the man to take us forward. I has consistently said if he gets us winning games I will like him - if he doesn't I wont. - Same for any manager we employ.
  9. Difference was Saunders and Clough on the wholw won more than they lost.
  10. I don't want to knock a guy a few games in - he sees the players day in day day out - we don't. He made some brave calls tonight, a couple of them in Grealish and Richardson backfired IMO. Overall I wasn't encouraged by what I saw tonight - 2 moments of brilliance + 1 deflected shot from Benteke - a few surging runs from Delph - but other than, there was no pattern to our play - defensively we had players bumping into each other - failed to deal with the simplest of clearances. 1 point was disappointing - but equally the performance will need to be much better over the coming weeks if we are to survive
  11. Odd that West Brom have interest and we may not. Like buying a 2 bed semi when you could have the 5 bed detached house a couple of doors down, isn't it? Got to say I would fancy peace to conclude a deal more quickly than Lerner.
  12. Well we don't have a referendum on everything do we? Where, for example, is our referendum of TTIP, which doesn't pool sovereignty as with the EU but seeks to negotiate it away to private interests? An EU referendum will be pretty disruptive but for what it's worth I think the public will vote to stay in and at least we can put the issue to bed for a while. Hopefully not until a Tory opposition has torn itself to shreds in the campaigning phase though In a true democracy you would have a referendum on everything. But that would be terribly cumbersome and probably unworkable. I really don't see the need for a referendum on EU membership - Its pretty easy to work out where each party stands on europe - and vote accordingly..
  13. I actually thought the swansea game was very important - had we won - it would have proved we were approaching a competent side - it would also have left us needing 1 more for safety - it didn't happen and I am resigned to the fact that we will still be in the mix in some way v burnley at home....
  14. Im fearing a defeat tonight - the players didn't look up for it V Manu - They could have been saving themselves for tonight - but they didn't looked focussed to me.
  15. Damn! I knew there was something wrong with the way the club has been run over the past 5 years. You review a manager's performance after 9 games and sack him if it doesn't match up to requirements! (Do you repeat this every 9 matches?) Mind you, Lambert's first 9 matches rendered 3 wins, two draws and four defeats so if we had applied these criteria to his regime, we could have sacked him back in 2012 and spared ourselves two and a half seasons of dreary misery. No one is saying sack him, rather just that it's fair to judge a manager with Sherwood's very particular remit after 9 games. Sherwood has a three year contract with Villa, so his "particular remit" is to manage Villa for three years. He came to us at a very low point when the board had delayed the obvious move of sacking the failing former manager for far too long. Nobody can demand a guarantee that he keeps us up given the position of the club when he took over. However, Sherwood has said he believes he can keep us up and I think he deserves the wholehearted support of the fans in that, rather than the sharpening of knives that I hear on this thread and the spouting of rubbish about how Gil should be selected regardless of form. Just as a matter of fact, his personal commitment to keep us in the premier league can only be judged on 24th May, not after 9 games as you suggest, or any other arbitrary number of matches you care to choose. What would be the point of judging him positively after 9 games if we then went down; or negatively after 9 games if we then stay up? Considering we were in the bottom 3 on goal difference and a run of easy games when he arrived - I would hope that was demanded. Even if he keeps us up the manner in which he does it, is important to me - we then need to be asking has he shown enough that he is the man to take us forward ? - Scrambling a victory tonight and another v Burnley wouldn't cut it for me.
  16. Yes - Ive had such discussions - they all say the prem is the place to be......I just yearn for us to win a few home games...
  17. Iam in the probably camp in the minute. Not quite sure why - but whilst I would be devastated to see us go down - I am that bored and saddened by the state of the premiership - I would be more up for it - if we were starting next season in the championship - rather than scratching about for the odd win in another season of premier league struggles
  18. That bothered me as well, it's like they accepted defeat before the ball was kicked. Very troubling that there was no visible proof of fight in them. Thats I how I seen it too - Sanchez literally just stood and watched as a player ran past him for goal one - and the final goal we couldn't even compete from a bounce up - it was though they couldn't be bothered. That worries me more than the result
  19. Jesus - If Ramsey joins us, I think we are in danger of becoming a convalescent home for failed football coaches
  20. Had we beaten swansea we would have been more or less home and dry.......sadly we didn't.
  21. If that's true then fair enough, my bad. However we can all agree that Lerner is a buffoon. I don't know if it's true for sure but It was reported in the media as far back as last season about Lambert getting a new contract. I think they just waited until they did because that was the best time to do it in terms of it being well received by the fans. If I remember rightly we'd just gone five game unbeaten. Correct. But if TF had have been dead against that move - he should have dug his heels in and shelved it for a few months - those tricky and big decisions and what a CEO is paid for. TF seems to take the easy option.
  22. If that's true then fair enough, my bad. However we can all agree that Lerner is a buffoon. We will never know the finer details - But my feeling was Randy handed over the running of the club to Fox - it might have been "Tom, Pauls done great over the last 2 season s with limited funds - theres a new contract for him - final decision is yours of course - but he's been great for us" It would seem Sherwood was Fox's appointment - looked at the time like a panic move - and so its proving - putting a rookie in charge of a big club at any time is risky, but one in almost free fall was asking for trouble
  23. I don't often disagree with you Mark. But weve beaten a Sunderland Team who at the time were in turmoil - and scrambled a win against Albion who are desparate on the road. Weve lost to teams who have little to play for Swansea, Stoke, and Newcastle. No problems with yesterdays score - but the way Sanchez just let the guy run past him , and then Delph got suckered in a bounce up FFS - The very basics were once again lacking - it smacked of a lack of focus - very worrying signs
  24. A short term boost - which keeps our chances of scrambling over the line alive. As for next season being any different, barring a takeover I just don't see it.
