  1. That's what we had with MON. Cost? £1.5m (allegedly).
  2. Not sure that's what the Olympi fans are saying.
  3. The CEO is saying we can reach Europe and the manager is saying he still has to reduce the wage bill. The cloudy thinking about what Lerner's money can realistically buy, that we can now see has always been at the heart of the Lerner "project", is still there and is if anything getting worse.
  4. I can see the pressure beginning to mount on Ashley because he's gone invisible in the last 2 months. All in all, not earning his wages quite yet, IMO... He has been out injured for most of that time. In any case, only the most jaundiced of eyes could not see he has had a really good season. Ferguson has picked him whenever possible for the important matches and he has played his socks off. Slightly crap night for him tonight, though (smirk).
  5. Steve Kean played 18 in all competitions won 5 win precentage 27.77% 31 goals scored an average of 1.72 per game Alex McLeish played 16 in all competitions won 4 win percentage 25% goals scored 18 an average of 1.13 per game He is even shitter than Steve Kean. That says it all really doesnt it  Not quite. Steve Kean played 14 PL games 10 pts, GD -11, pos 18th Alex McLeish Played 14 PL games 16 pts, GD -2, pos 9th. FFS don't start advocating Kean as our next manager! :? You have just given Premier League stats, I gave all competitions including the Carling cup games. So yeah, I am right he is worse than Steve Kean 8) Fine, you will enjoy being in the crowd of 1 at VP for Kean's first match in charge! :winkold:
  6. In my experience, if there are noses on here, they would be voting against McLeish since they all think he's rubbish.

  8. That does, of course, assume we won't already be relegated by May.
  9. He needs a decent run of results starting now. It's just not possible at the moment to imagine that could happen.
  10. I agree with that. Would just add, he also needs to sort out the defence and the attack as well. Once he's cracked alll those, we'll be fine.
  11. Sacking O'Neill with 5 days to go to the new season, and having absolutely no plans in place to replace him, wasn't too clever either; appointing Houllier was pretty gash too. Exactly which bits have been spot on for you?
  12. I have a sneaking feeling this is spot on. Anyone thinking that yet another change of manager would solve our problems is in for a disappointment. There is something wrong with that squad in terms of basic attitude and motivation and I suspect the root of the problem lies somewhere in the defence.
  13. What lies do you think McLeish has told?
  14. .....and would the fans have got.....behind our team the .....way the Wolves fans.....did? .....undoubtedly not.....they'd have been to busy booing.....and moaning.....
  15. I doubt very much whether MON would ever contemplate coming back to Villa, so this thread, while providing an opportunity for a few people to have another ride on their hobby horses about how useless he was, etc., etc., is pretty irrelevant.
  16. Well, Villatalkers have helped to cheer up some Sunderland fans this morning. They even do irony up there!
  17. Not quite sure what Dino is getting himself involved with up there, getting all this Willie McKay dross into his side.
  18. He's been "frozen out" (i.e,. not selected regularly for the first team) by three managers in succession now, five if you count us as having 3 managers during last season, so there just must be something wrong there that is likely to be his fault.
  19. Result!! BTW, in case you're panicking, I think the headline is meant to be
  20. Well, we have a bit of a difference here, don't we? If his conversion ratio is 7 or 8 out of 10 shots, that s pretty good. If it's one out of 4 or 5 shots, he needs around 30-40 shots to get his 7 or 8 goals. Which of those it is makes quite a difference to the argument. I don't suppose anyone has the actual figures for his shot to conversion ratio?
  21. People calling for us to change our style of football radically to accommodate Bent's rather wasteful shots/goal ratio are probably whistling in the dark. We don't have the players any more - Randy Lerner sold them. We need forwards who can capitalise on good scoring chances that come more rarely - Gabby has always had a very low shots/goal ratio and that's why he is ideal for Villa. Thought Bent was a bit poor yesterday tbf.
  22. I do find it unacceptable for Villa fans to wish injuries on their own players.
  23. They seem almost completely dependent on Van Persie to score enough goals to win so I wouldn't big them up too much.
  24. -2 A month with Coventry - as long as he gets the games - will give him vastly more game time than we can give him and should help him toughen up and mature as a player.
