  1. General, I noticed in the Times today that Fernando Torres said that after arriving at Liverpool the club gave him a selection of DVDs and information about the history of the club. We all know about the well documented poor treatment of our foreign players in the past and I was just wondering whether we do something similar especially as it's in-keeping with our Proud History, Bright Future mantra. If we don't, will it be considered in the future?
  2. I know, I know hence the edit.
  3. EDIT: That unintentionally sounded arsey. At the end of the day the book is out of date anyway and I doubt many kids read it now anyway. I do think we sound be cautious of material that is included in kids books though, but retain a sense of perspective at the same time
  4. I love how the word castrate has come into this. My understanding is that it is actually treatment to control libido and is only temporary. My concern is that 'treatment' of offenders in the medical sense has not got a good track record. I'm surprised someone hasn't recommended aversion therapy by now. The other problem I have with this sort of rhetoric is that it pandas to those who like to portray paedophiles and 'werido loners' in anoraks, rather than the truth that they are usually known to the children and are often members of their family.
  5. Currently Elliott Smith- Bottle up and Explode
  6. Hang on, will they be paid more or not? If they will then why, if there's no actual real risk of working in a smoking pub. Are coal-miners really paid that much nowadays? If they are then fair enough. As for nuclear plant-workers, I suspect many of them are actually very well educated which may influence how much they get paid. If you're looking for dangerous jobs, I'd say being in the army heads the list, but they are hardly paid a fantastic amount either.
  7. Compensated in what way exactly? Gringo the market economist! Strange that most undesirable jobs are still poorly paid. Manual labour, working for McDonalds or for the Walmart empire is hardly going to make you rich and nor would working in a smoky pub. Yet again it will be the worst off that will be worst affected.
  8. Compensated in what way exactly?
  9. Really, has the rate of smoking gone consistently down in women and men? Are men and women both equally likely to be affected by cancer? Are smoking related diseases made up or are there numerous afflictions which smoking increases the likelihood of? If passive smoking has been disproved by research why is it then that both the World Health Organisation and the British Medical Association have both presented evidence to the contrary?
  10. Okay, it's stolen from a John O'Shea song, but really when are united fans ever going to sing it? It works better this way too: To the tune of The Animals go Marching When Johnny goes marching in the box, CAREW, CAREW When Johnny goes marching in the box, CAREW, CAREW When Johnny goes marching in the box, CAREW, CAREW, the Holte End will stand sing 'Cause we all know that Johnny's going to score
  11. Have you actually taken the time to read them yourself? Or read about it in the Mail or the Telegraph? This is what the WHO has to say about it: Clicky
  12. He's 28, not far off 29. Not the best, but I'd still have him
  13. Yes he was and a very good talent if you ask me. I'd take him over Koumas any day.
  14. Hang on, I suggesed this a while back. Are SSN doing an 'Evening Mail'?? :winkold:
  15. Just a quick update, I did the run today and finished in 26 mins. I'm slightly disappointed with the time, but the course was a bit of a killer, especially in the sun. However, it was a really great day and it was good to see Stephanie Moore there. Another big thank you to those of you that sponsored me, it was greatly appreciated!
  16. If it is to be NRC then I expect Davis to be out the door within days, no doubt to Fulham.
  17. Well the sponsorship has gone really well, I'm probably going to double my original target. I haven't had much chance to train but still hoping to do run it in less than 22 mins. We shall see!
  18. I don't rate Jenas at all, the only time you ever see him is when he scores one of his one-a-season wonder goals. In fact, he is exactly the sort of player I hope we avoid in the transfer window. I think we've got a solid basis for a team, we need flair players who can open up defences. I'm not saying these are easy to come by, but I'd rather see 1 or 2 of those kinds of player than 10 players like Jenas.
  19. I see that Man U are linked with him today in the papers. If they do bid for him then we can write that one off.
  20. The more time that passes, the more sure I am Bellamy will sign for us after the CL final. Not sure about him, but I think it's going to happen.
  21. Rocafella, I often disagree with you, but here you are spot on, the amount of dross that Benitez has signed from the Spanish league is unbelieveable, the fact that his team are still nowhere near the Premiership is testament to this. I don't want Jagielka, certainly not for £6m.
  22. Yep and West Ham too. West Ham staying up is not good news, they are being linked to every player going now, so expect them to try and steal every player that we look to sign.
  23. I know what you mean, however players from abroad offer much greater value for money, especially with the TV money coming in.
  24. It all depends on who they buy and how well their players gel together. Personally, I think we spend too much time worrying about them, they're the opposite to Villa- a club with absolutely no class.
