  1. Currently reading Dawkin's latest - The greatest show on Earth (the evidence for evolution) What a book! If you're remotely interested in science, I suggest picking it up. It's endlessly fascinating
  2. We should keep in mind that Warnock was an absolute revelation for 3/4 of the season, ok he's had a poor few games but he shouldn't be written off. He's an absolute quality player IMO, probably our third/fourth best overall this season (Behind Milner, Dunne and maybe Gabby)
  3. There are billions of solar systems in our galaxy, and billions of galaxies in the universe. It is a statistical impossibility that there is no other life out there. I would bet everything I own (though, to be fair, that's not a lot) that there are hundreds of other planets with intelligent life, whether or not they are sufficiently more advanced than us, or even as advanced as us, and hostile is another question. Therefore I vote YES.
  4. When will we learn to play through the middle??
  5. . Prof Brian Cox says otherwise. I am inclined to believe him because he does not stop smilling. He smiles because he is getting a cut of all the wasted millions going into that mickey mouse project. I am smiling because I have wind. In what way is it a micky mouse project? You do realise it could completely revolutionise our understanding of physics, along with opening countless doors to future research?
  6. So as regards the Earth the Bible quite clearly states it will not be destroyed. As reliable as this wonderful text has proven to be, what with its stories of talking snakes, magic boats and flat earths, I prefer to put my faith in the physicists and astronomers who actually know what they're talking about. The Earth will eventually be destroyed, along with everything else in our solar system, with the inevitable expiration of the Sun. By that time I would hope that humans have long since ventured into the stars, Star Trek style :-D
  7. * This is why I think Ashley Young is one of the best players in the world. What the ****? Surely you're not being serious? I'd say he's the second best winger in the league, behind Valencia, weirdly though I don't think he'd make the top 10-15 wingers in the world.
  8. We've already beaten them a couple of times under MON, including earlier this season, no reason we can't beat them again and I reckon our boys will be fired up for it having already been so close to success in the carling cup final.
  9. I am merely making a personal observation, deduced from what i see around me. We are a young, very very young species in comparison to other species on our planet and who knows what else out there. It is only natural to assume we have yet to evolve further as that is what all animals on this earth do, they evolve constantly yet steadily. Do i have scientific fact to back my opinions? Well no, as I can't predict how much we will evolve and nor can anyone. But is it not fair to assume we will progress as a species and thus become wiser and more intelligent? Yes I am casting a doubt, because that is what we should all do. We shouldn't take Science for face value just as much as we shouldn't take religion as face value. I accept that to believe in Science is far more logical than religion, and to an extent I agree. I will still turn to Science to prove/disprove the majority of problems I deal with in every day life as i respect the work humanity has put into developing a knowledge of the reality it finds itself in. I understand that people take comfort in the knowledge that Science provides these cold hard statistics and gives rational and logical explainations for the goings on in the Universe, and a lot of them maybe true but the point I am making is that despite all this it could just be all bollocks and that one must be willing to accept that, just as a religious person must be willing to accept they be wrong. But alas, i know this is not the case. And how does one measure this reality that exists outside the mind? I would imagine we'd evolve very little if we carry on as we are. Evolution doesn't just happen with the passage of time, it requires selective pressure to drive the process. As it stands, there is practically no selective pressure on the human race, apart from incredibly superficial things like certain desirable attributes
  10. This is absolute madness. Have you got any understanding of history whatsoever? It is precisely because believers have never 'live and let live' that they can't expect the same treatment in return. Nobody was letting anybody 'live and let live' during 9/11. Nobody was letting anybody 'live and let live' during the Rwandan genocides. The catholics aren't letting anybody 'live and let live' when they preach the ridiculous doctrine that condoms worsen the spread of AIDs. For centuries, believers have forced their ridiculous, unfounded and wholly illogical beliefs on others. Millions of people have died, and probably will die in the future, because of the actions of religious nuts. Every aspect of life is impeded by religion. Scientific advance was hindered for over a thousand years during the christian dark ages, and even today that vast majority of resistance to scientific advance comes from uneducated religious zealots. Religion should be criticised and fought on all fronts, it's the only way we can finally rid ourselves of prehistoric superstition and move on as a species.
  11. Is that the best goal Gab has ever scored? Can't think of one better
  12. Purvays???? :| Better than "pervies" I suppose :-) I always thought purvay (should have been purvey) was to do with seeing or observing. Apparently I was completely wrong. Behold would have been better. ...I have far too much free time You're thinking of "survey". "Purvey" (with an "e") means "to provide", as in "Purveyors of fine wines to the gentry", etc. Although, as we all know, James Milner is the creator - the uncaused cause, he is eternal and everlasting. Therefore he purveyed the world we inhabit, so 'purvey' still makes sense. WIN!

  14. Doner kebab meat and chips from Hi-Tide in Kings Heath. Omnomnomnomnomnomnom....
  15. If you are to get Milner, you must refer to him by his correct title - 'King James the first, Lord and Ruler of all he purvays'. Might be short on space though.
  16. Hey general - quick question about the ticketing. Forgive my ignorance, but what's the situation with non season ticket holders getting tickets? Is it based on previous booking history? For this season alone or over many years? When do you expect tickets to go on sale for non STH? Again, sorry if this has already been asked and answered. Keep up the good work.
  17. Forgive my ignorance, but is it 5th round - semi final - final?
  18. -Young shattering Everton in the 3-1 win, the best part is that you can still hear them chanting 'Everton, Everton, Everton' after Lescott's goal. -Petrov's screamer against Derby in the 6-0 thrashing
  19. He has played less than 15 games in central midfield (I believe), and has already become a quality player in that position. Give him a season or two to really get to grips with the position and he'll be top class.
  20. - In his spare time, James Milner enjoys tying journalists to goalposts and using their heads for target practice (see this months FHM for details) - James Milner is our best player, and the long term replacement for Gerrard/Lampard as England's midfield superstar
  21. Surprised that 'Up!' hasn't got more votes. It's another absolute classic from Pixar, in fact it's probably their best work, and is one of the best films I've ever seen. In turns heartwrenching and hilarious, everybody should see this film.
  22. If we go 4-5-1 --------------------Guzan-------------------- Young------Cuellar----Dunne-----Warnock -------------------Petrov--------------------- ---------------NRC-----Delph---------------- Young-------------------------------Downing -----------------Agbonlahor----------------- Bench: Friedel, Beye, Collins, Sidwell, Albrighton, Heskey, Carew If we go 4-4-2 (which I expect) --------------------Guzan-------------------- Young------Cuellar----Dunne-----Warnock ---------------NRC-----Petrov---------------- Young-------------------------------Downing ---------Agbonlahor------Heskey------------ Bench: Friedel, Beye, Collins, Delph, Sidwell, Carew, Delfouneso Assuming of course that Milner is unavailable and Gardner won't be in the squad so he isn't cup tied.
  23. General, quick question RE finances of the club. Does the club have significant income outside of the usual merchandise sales/ticket sales/tv money etc.? I don't mean our club specifically, I've just always wondered if clubs did this in general. It seems to me that an organisation with the money and business acumen of a football club could stand to make significant profits from investments outside of football. Again, it's not a question about our club specifically, and certainly not a critique in any way, just a general wondering. Keep up the good work General, Happy New Year to yourself and all at the club.
  24. Some of his performances last season were absolutely superb. Of course I'm not saying that he is a world class player, but he has the potential to be a very, very good defender. Give him time.
