  1. I'm wondering has Jol achieved more or less in the game than Houllier? There are a list of managers who have achieved more in the game than both combined but who we would go mental if we appointed. That shows it is all about views, doesn't it? I think Houllier might surprise a few people.
  2. I think Houllier could actually be a very good appointment. It was only when he was ill that things started to go wrong at Liverpool. He's fit and well now.
  3. General, would you expect a full-time manager to be appointed before our next game against Stoke?
  4. Need to wait until the transfer window closes then make the announcement. Why? What difference does that make?
  5. I think he would have been appointed already if he was going to get the job.
  6. General - there appears to be some confusion about the wages issue the club is facing. Some think the fact that wages were over 75% of turnover is an issue, meaning that we didn't meet a requirement from UEFA on financial fair play, and that we had to shift players to reduce the bill. Others of us thought that it was an issue about tying up wages in players who weren't playing: that if new players were to come in then this weight would need to be taken off the bill. Could you explain the situation for us? Thanks Andy

  8. I would rather not appoint someone on the basis that they can attract players, I'd rather do it on management record. The only person who's been mentioned that has a half decent record is Jol - the rest have an awful record in the top flight (Sven, Southgate, Klinsmann, Koeman, etc). I'd rather have Kevin Mac than any of them.
  9. It isn't puzzling. Reserve Team football is a million billion miles away from the Premiership. And football history is littered with failed internal promotions. If we were a mid table side, fine, take the gamble, only I still wouldn't see why. Why not get the BBest we can, instead of someone about whom we know nothing as far as Premiership is involved ? Didn't Liverpool dominate English & European football for decades by promoting from within? Yes, that and having oodles of cash. But they were unique, and were specifically geared up by Shankly to work that way. Why gamble ? How were they specifically geared up for it, the way Shankley worked? Why can't it work for us? How is it more of a gamble than appointing someone like Sven?

  11. It worries me if our board are deciding who they'd like to let go and who they'd not. Lerner shouldn't have an opinion on things like this, he should leave this to the manager. I agree with this. I suppose it is more defensible while we don't have a full-time manager. But the quote suggests that the owner is becoming too involved in making decisions.
  12. General - what's the time frame for appointing the new manager? Thanks
  13. So Sven has proven to be rubbish has he? I think the last 2 England managers have proved he wasn't doing such a bad job. Yes. He lost it with England and was poor at Man City.
  14. I would rather have Bradley than Sven. Rather unproven than proven to be rubbish.
  15. Remember everyone that Arsene Wenger was a total unknown when he came to the UK.
  16. I think this is far too overly pessimistic! We have improved year on year under O'Neill and Lerner. Yes, some of the players haven't come off - as is the nature of football - look at the players at Liverpool that didn't work under Rafa! The fact is that we've finished top 6 for the last 3 years and have mounted a challenge for the top 4 in the last two. We have also got to a cup final and semi-final. I really don't know how this can be seen as a failure. And our competitors haven't strengthened either really. Everton for example - I can imagine the reaction of MoN signed a former League One striker who is in their mid-20s on a free contract.....
  17. It seems to be a case of keep Milner and get no one else in or sell Milner and buy two or three players. So thats the choice I think we can only say that for sure once the window shuts. I don't think that is the case.
  18. We do have money - it is clear that there is money to spend on new players. The sell to buy policy is about clearing out some of the wage bill to make space for new signings. I expect our wage bill to be higher this season than last.
  19. SWP is rubbish. He's a modern day Tony Daley. No delivery.
  20. Not really - it is just that Nicko is normally correct about Rovers moves - he seems to have insider info on the club. Said that we would get Warnock last year and Brad the year before.
