  1. Thats good, we weren't having one If our troops are in a hostile country, how come no one supports the other side as you claimed? Surely we're in a friendly country? Helping them rid themselves of insurgents or have you misread the script? I said hostile country, not a hostile country. Its a turn of phrase that you’ve over looked. Your misreading of it has lead to you assuming I meant Afghanistan was a hostile country, when what it actually means is that Helmand is Dodge City. We were both wrong- this is a battle of semantics. I also don’t think I claimed anybody supported anybody, so where that outburst comes from beats me.
  2. I don’t really see the comparison between comments Osborne made about the economy and this situation to be honest, it’s you that’s making the tenuous link, not me. If pumping £250 billion into the UK economy only moved it by 0.3%, then I doubt comments from the then shadow chacellor would have seen investors scurry away, particuarlly when every man and his dog was aware of what was going to be found in the books. Its clear that Obama’s jingoistic ranting has had a significant and tangible effect on BP’s share price, putting pension funds here and over there at serious risk and potentially thousands of US jobs. I ask again what is Cameron supposed to do? This is a problem for the Federal government, BP and its American contractors to sort out- instead we’re hearing boorish comments such as “I need to know whose ass to kick”. I don’t see any politics about Cameron going to Afghanistan to mingle with the troops. I see it as his job, just as it was Brown’s and just like it was Blair’s. I didn’t criticise them for it and I won’t start now.
  3. I’m not particularly interested in a discussion on semantics. Our troops are in hostile country and its good that they’re getting the backing from both the populous and the Government.
  4. The H word again. You were seemingly happy for Osborne to do worse with the UK economy pre the election Do you get paid commission for every time you use the word hypocrisy? As to be honest, quite what you’re talking about with regards to me and what any of it has to do with this subject I have no idea.
  5. As he is the leader of the Government and we are at war, with just under 10% of the British Army deployed in theatre. I’d have taken your bet and your cash, as I would be equally perplexed at what Brown could have done, short of punching Obama in the mouth to stop his anti-British rhetoric talking down BP. As Vince Cable quite rightly said, it doesn’t help anybody. The Federal government should be pulling its finger out and doing all it can to aid BP and then play the blame game later. But instead we have Obama playing the populist card with his “British Petroleum”- a company that doesn’t exist- rhetoric.
  6. What is he supposed to do? Obama is the guy that has talked the BP shares down, threatening US pensions. How is Cameron supposed to stabilise it? Why shouldn’t he have gone to Afghanistan?
  7. Why is he calling BP by an old name, if not to emphasise "British?" I couple this with his stance over the Falklands and see Obama as being no lover of Britain. I also fail to see what A British Government can really do about an American problem. You throw the word hypocrisy around so often that its lost all meaning.
  8. Cameron has said he will aid in any way possible today. Obama calling BP British Petroleum, when they changed their name to BP in 2001, when they have 30,000 US employees and 40% of the share capital is owned by US institutions doesn’t help anybody. Honestly Drat, if you keep up your level of daily outrage you’ll end up with a stomach ulcer before the Summers finished!
  9. Damn right Awol. When we consider Obama’s stance on British interests, like the Falklands, we shouldn’t be.
  10. Yes. With enough support and training, the ANA and ANP will hopefully be in a position to monopolise violence- the corner stone of any successful state.
  11. Listen, I don't personally believe in this war or enforcing democracy on another Nation through warfare. And before you start saying "It's Labour's war" I understand that and still don't agree with it. We are not trying to enforce democracy in Afghan, we are trying to hold the ring long enough to train up sufficient soldiers and police to allow us to make a reasonably dignified exit in 2012. Cameron and Co want us out asap so you should be pleased with them. In relation to the coming cuts the army is expecting to lose 20% of it's man power, that will reduce it to the size it was before the Boer war. I know socialists generally dislike the armed forces so again this is something they should be celebrating. I don't dislike the forces I just don't believe in this war as it goes deeper than Democracy; I believe a Nation should build its self by gradualism and experience like our Nation. We ARE enforcing democracy on this Country, we are making the decisions for this Country. So you prefer the alternative then? Taliban hang 7 year old boy
  12. I thought the Debt was holding us back in spending more? Hmmm I guess not on other things. It is coming from savings in the defence budget in other areas and is not new money. That's nice, I wonder if they'll have this much care for the Citizens in this Country when the cuts begin in other areas. Citizens in this country? You are aware that the foces in Afghanistan are not Sepoys aren’t you? What were you babbling on about the other day, thinking of others or some such guff? Cleary your ideals don't extend to our armed forces.
  13. I’m not sure which I prefer, avfc89’s socialist babbling on your anarchist rants!
  14. Erm... but the money is there. It doesn't matter how intangible an asset is, it can still have extreme value and importance. As an example, if Coke-Cola's factories all burned down globally over night, then CEO would still have enough Goodwill to re-build the company. If it was the other way round and the goodwill was vaporised, then he'd be up slack ally.
  15. Rubbish, utter rubbish. I'm not surprised tho, it's the Tory way of creating an unequal Society where only the born wealthy can prosper without worries, and talented individuals from poor backgrounds get deterred by the debt. How does your archaic socialist rhetoric marry up with the comments I’d made above about the situation? It will deter people, I know this and have seen this with my own eyes last year, and that was at the current rate. Do you agree with the rise? Do you believe it's fair? Socialist Rhetoric? I don't think it is; I guess someone who can look past himself and show some empathy for other people isn't the right attitude to have in your opinion. I’d like to teach the world to sing yadadada. If it’s deterring people, then its because they’ve been poorly advised. I too know the situation, I have been both an undergraduate and post-graduate student and I’ve got the sack load of debt to prove it. In the end though, the debt is manageable and the undergraduate debt in particular is peanuts. Am I’m not wealthy either.
  16. As I said, the debt you get in for an undergraduate course is minimal compared to the debt that’s coming your way.

  18. I took out three student loans, one for an undergraduate course and two loans for two post graduate courses. The undergraduate loan is at about 10k and I get a couple hundred pounds interest per year. Compare it to the latter big boy loans taken out from the ShaftWest, where interest goes up in the thousands per year. To put it another way, a monthly payment for the later loans to service the interest is larger than the annual undergraduate loan interest. The point of this story being that undergraduate debt isn’t anything to be particularly bothered about. As for the NUS strike, do students really give a shit? Would anybody else give a shit? I was a member, but that was only for the 10% it got me off goodies at various outlets.
  19. Bloody hell, where you been?! Don't they have the internet in Argentina?! :winkold:

  21. Rumours abound that there's a second one apaprently. I'll find out soon enough, as she's in Whales Vagina at the moment.
  22. I’m in favour of the idea.
  23. Villa to win a corner over Ingerlund doing anything. Not that I'm adverse to England winning the World Cup, they're not mutually exclusive after all, but Villa first.
  24. My sister is off the E3 next week I think, I'm hoping she cops pictures of the new Assassins Creed and Heavy Rain.
