  1. Why can't you take him seriously? - his appearance? - Oh dear if it is. You’d think it was his natural guy liner, but it’s actually his voice. He is a comedic character sent back from the future to entertain on the political stage.
  2. I cannot take a word Ed Miliband says seriously. Neither will the party voters- it’ll be lil' Dave who'll win it.
  3. I want Ed Miliband to win mainly because I can do a really good impression of him.
  4. The traditional media can moan all it likes, because ultimately they have nowhere else to go and Cameron knows this. You’re thinking too short terms. Headlines today won’t matter a jot in 5 years, so to speak. To quote my mate;
  5. I think if Cameron can peel away the rural Liberals then the Conservatives will be in power ad infinitum.
  6. I can only pass on what somebody who works for a group aiming at producing policy for the Labour Party thinks. The way he sees it is that 2020 is the focus. He admits that is very long term, but he thinks the realignment back to the left (should it happen of course) will cost them 2015, but then he thinks they'll lose it anyway depending on how Cameron plays it with the Liberals.

I found the story pretty depressing actually. All those jobs, creativity and ingenuity gone. Sad.
  8. I didn't ask him that, but I will and I'll let you know.
  9. Speaking with an old friend who is now apart of a left wing Labour think tank, he tells me that they reckon Labour have no chance of winning the next election and that its their hope that given enough time, they can track back to more centre left issues. They were incredibly fearful of being wiped out at the election.
  10. Its as if the previous two pages never happened. I've heard your evidence folks, I'm just not going to pay any attention to it. avfc89 for Labour leader.
  11. As the warrior poet Ice Cube once said, when you get through the day without firing an AK, then it has been a good day indeed. But when you hear the news that Heskey might be leaving the Villa, it becomes a **** great one!
  12. I’d say both Labour and the Conservative occupy a pro-British stance. As current and former governments, it’s their job to do so. I’m fairly certain there are members of every mainstream political party who harbour some fairly nasty prejudices. This is not the same as ideology. Take a look at the Political Compass link. It’s by no means the definitive article, but it does give you a more relevant perspective on where parties or individuals lie in the spectrum. The BNP are a fascist party and far removed from Conservative/conservative economic and social ideology. What it says is true, that the extra support seen in the 2009 Euro elections comes from Old Labour strongholds.
  13. You haven’t given a theory, you’ve given a statement. Conservatives embody what? Immigration, multiculturalism and Europe?
  14. The BNP have no immigration or multicultural policies. Instead they have their racially driven ideology. Their other socialist policies are simply window dressing to lure in the disillusioned white working class voter, hoping they’ll either buy into their racial prejudices or feel comfortable enough to ignore them because somebody is "sticking up for the working man”. They're trying to fill the vacuum left after Labour re-invented itself with the Third Way, but they won’t succeed.
  15. Awol, I agree with your tent pissing analogy! I’ve heard of concerns from within Turkey of certain factions in the political establishment and even the army looking more Eastward and indentifying less with the secular principles that Turkey as a modern state was founded on.
  16. I'd rather win the FA Cup than finish 4th, but I rather finish 4th than get to a final.

You can't watch much TV then I probably don't watch as much as the average as there is such a high volume of shit on the box. But I do like Top Gear and I thought that was probably one of their best non-specials and as such, bloody fantastic television.

    That was bloody fantastic television.
  19. There was a thread on H&V about it, where one chap reckoned it was £7 for one and an extra £5 for the other with BT Vision. I thought BT Vision was Freeview? I don't know, its not really important in this thread at any rate.
  20. £7 per month, how? £7 per month more than if it were free to air (taking account of the licence fee being a sunk cost). £7 per month this, £7 per month that. It's much more than a lot of people can afford or justify spending especially when on a limited budget in an economy where those on limited budgets are being hit especially hard by inflation and are going to be disproportionately hit by an increase in VAT. You can now get Sky Sports 1 & 2 with Freeview for £7 p/m.
  21. For those that can afford it. That's rather the point of the discussion of 'Crown Jewels' events (but I'm guessing you're aware of that), without getting in to the influence of the Australian. p.s. I would suggest that C4's cricket coverage was very good, indeed. Just as good as that which I have seen served up by Sky (actually better because they still had Richie). £7 p/m if you haven't got Sky. I think the technology they’ve brought in and the ensemble of commentators as well, has made it incredibly entertaining and a step above anything else that another broadcaster could offer. Most people will be tucked up in bed this winter, so I’m glad that events such as the Ashes won’t be dumbed down for the sake of archaic fairness for those of us that will be watching.
