  1. Bickster, If I understood correctly, you still intend to vote "No"? Given that a no vote is effectively a vote in favour of FPTP, would you not be better off spoiling your ballot paper / not voting in order to register dissatisfaction at both choices? Apologies if you already covered this. No, I actually think FPTP is a better system than AV on the grounds that it doesn't marginalise small parties as much. Plurality of opinion is important and anything that marginalises (as AV surely does) smaller parties is not good, its not "better" and its not "fairer". I don't accept the idea that AV will make people "pander" to supporters of other parties in this country that simply won't happen, you need more than two large parties and a third "balance of power" party for that to happen. What will happen is that the Third (by quite some distance) party will always hold more power than the second placed party unless those two parties combine to have a coalition over the first placed party in which case the most favoured party doesn't get to form a Govt. AV will place too much power in the hands of the third placed party in this country. It simply isn't sensible to be used in a country such as ours. Which is why its a bad system for Australia and a good system for Papua New Guinea (lots of small parties split on a tribal basis) It's usefulness is in a country where there are lots more parties with more equal standing to each other. We should use its first cousin the single transferable vote in the EU elections for that reason. It is of no use in domestic elections. If there was a third No option of "I want electoral reform but AV is not the answer" I'd vote that, but as someone else pointed out, they are too shit scared to put that as an option. Fair enough I don't necessarily agree but I can see where you're coming from and it's a fair enough position.

  3. And how much it is for non-season ticket holders / where you get tickets? (Is it on the turnstile for a reserve game?)
  4. I don't think it's to worrying personally. A lot of what would have previously been reserve players have been far more involved in the first team this year, plus all the ones that are out on loan. The point of the reserves / youth is to get players into the first team, and to that extent it seems to be working better than ever this year.
  5. I've always fancied checking a reserve game. How does it work, just pay on the turnstile or what? How much is it?
  6. Keep running outdoors, treadmills aren't the same. Do that and you'll have no problem.
  7. Well, he's more coherent than Gordon Strachan. But seriously, do people talking about Mourinho actually live on planet earth?
  8. It's not that impressive though, is it? The British Empire and the USA stormed the beaches on D-Day, but at least Bulgaria never lost any of their flags! Didn't Genghis Khan sack Bulgaria? The Mongolian Empire certainly included the area that is now Bulgaria at one time (although I think that was after Genghis Khans death). Edit
  9. Build up slowly. If you don't run much and went out and did 5 miles just like that, I'm not surprised you froze up next time! You've got to start with short runs and build on it. One or two miles is more than enough to start with and build up slowly from there.
  10. Used to listen to a bit of Bond, which I'm sure will be derided (probably correctly) by the purists. Have to admit, it's been some time since I listened to any classical stuff.
  11. Hardly run at all since doing my half marathon a few weeks ago, so just signed up for Bristol Half to give me something to go out and train for. Strange thing is I enjoy running once I'm out and into it, but without a goal can't motivate myself to get out and do anything.
  12. We live in an age where Black Eyed Peas can top the charts that lyrics taken direct from a Facebook status and any talented nobody can have a number one if they get on to some Simon Cowell shit program. In comparison to this travesty, all the bands listed above are legends of music that couldn't possibly be over-rated.
  13. Wiki says he's president of Rio Tinto since retiring in 2005.
  14. Haven't read this thread, and I might be the only person left who still doesn't want to get rid of Houllier. But if we do have to replace him at the end of the season, I'd love to see us go after Dechamps from Marseille. He's won everything there is to win and would command respect, he carries himself well and seems at ease with the media and he knows the English game. He's worked wonders at Marseille and managed to take them on to the next level. He did brilliantly at Monaco as well, over achieving massively compared to the squad and resources he had, and although Juve may have been a bit of an easy job in the circumstances, he did it well. He'd be difficult to get and may prove beyond our reach, but he'd be my first choice and we should move heaven and earth to get him, if a replacement does become needed.
  15. I would take both back without question or hesitation. Whether either would come back is another question, but both possibilities are worth sounding out.
  16. 1 down, 6,999 to go, BIAD. What is proposed is better than what we have. Not what is needed, but a step. Once people get used to change then they might not vote on the simple lines they have previously chosen. However I don't understand how labour supporters can feel let down by the lib dems - after 13 years of red party tory rule they would have no option to vote for. If however an AV was available in 1992, we would have had a labour majority govt not led by tories in sheep clothing, and wouldn't have ended up with clegg at all. Birmingham Institute of Art and Design?
  17. there isn't a lot of evidence to suggest that Lib Dems do see Tories as the enemy though , see my post on page 1 I have to admit, I find that surprising. If there was an election tomorrow, in all honesty I think my best choice of action would be to drop a match in the ballot box. I really feel the whole process is quite pointless at the moment, most votes don't count (under either system), and even if they did I can't see that anyone deserves my vote.
  18. Quite the contrary, I saw a great article in the Express of all papers (I know who would have thought pigs could fly) about AV being good because it gives parties such as UKIP (see, Daily Express!) a better chance of getting into power. As others have said, I believe it will start to kick off a few weeks before. I was going to vote for it, but I don't want to vote on the side of the Express?! What to do!
  19. out of interest and slightly OT , how many Principals did Liebour break in their 13 years in office , and how many did the Cons break in their previous stint before that tis a tad unfair to single out the libs for abandoning principles when on the face of it not one single party has any Maybe, but the Lib Dem's haven't just abandoned their principles or failed to deliver promises, they've actually helped the party who their core support see as "the enemy" do in many cases the complete opposite of what the Lib Dems supposedly stood for.
  20. Green talk a bit of sense but I don't really see enough from them that I agree with. Could possibly be worth a second choice vote but at the moment I don't think I'd be able to put down a first choice! I liked the Lib Dems, but as you rightly say they well and truly shat on their supporters, then rubbed it in for good measure, then shat again. Independent seems a waste of time to be honest. Pfff, **** it, let's just scratch everything and start over?
