  1. None. There's never really an advantage to not supporting the team but try telling that to the people who continually slagged off a man who showed improved results, year on year. Without getting into a MON debate, I think the issue could have been that those improved results could have been even more improved.. if he hadn't been so stubborn with some of his choices. Which, in my opinion, just goes to show a lack of gratitude. Let's hope Houllier is subject to more realistic expectations.

  3. This is the thing really - fickle is a word that gets used a lot but generally incorrectly. 'Fickle fans' is generally another way of saying 'arseholes' when really it's just people who change their minds easily and don't show loyalty.
  4. If you think Sven is crap, you have a screw loose. His managerial record speaks for itself: * Göteborg o Svenska Cupen Winners 1979, 1982 o Allsvenskan Champions 1982 o UEFA Cup Winners 1982 * Benfica o Portuguese Liga Champions 1983, 1984, 1991 o Cup of Portugal Winners 1983 o SuperCup Cândido de Oliveira Champions 1989 o European Cup Runners Up 1990 o UEFA Cup Runners Up 1983 * Roma o Coppa Italia Winners 1986 * Sampdoria o Coppa Italia Winners 1994 * Lazio o Coppa Italia Winners 1998, 2000 o Italian Super Cup Winners 1998, 2000 o UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Winners 1999 o UEFA Super Cup Winners 1999 o Serie A Champions 2000 o UEFA Cup Runners Up 1998 * England o FA Summer Tournament Winners 2004 The only time he didn't look any good was at Man City when he was working under that despotic Shinawatra (spl) and you can hardly blame him for that.
  5. Only time will tell. I think Houllier is going to be a good appointment and I was a big fan of MON's work. If Houllier does as well as MON did, I'll be happy.
  6. Good, he's been doing a sterling job there for a fair old while.
  7. That doesn't really fill me with any more confidence. Toulalan, Kallstrom, Diarra, Fred and Tiago... any better?
  8. Not to mention that nobody questioned the signing at the time - he had a great tournament and the majority of people thought he'd become a top player. Houllier just got unlucky with him really.
  9. Houllier: PSG 1 × French League: 1985–86 Liverpool 1 × UEFA Cup: 2000-01 1 × UEFA Super Cup: 2001 1 × FA Cup: 2000-2001 2 × Football League Cup: 2000-2001, 2002-03 1 × FA Community Shield: 2001 Lyon 2 × French League: 2005-06, 2006–07 2 × Champions Trophy: 2005, 2006 These are facts. Who the **** cares who we sign if he gets the job done?
  10. Oh good. Another person coming into the club that people are going to berate at every opportunity because they refuse to give them a chance.
  11. Definitely not. Sidwell and Beye have been far worse.
  12. He's a bit of a prat but he could make something of himself if we utilise his skills correctly. Rotating him with Young as the man behind the striker could work well enough.
  13. Allardyce is way beneath us. We've got bigger fish to fry. And by bigger I mean in terms of reputation, not waistline.
  14. Using the 'Liverpool fans didn't like him' argument is totally redundant. For one thing, they thought Benitez was really good. If you focused on the fact that Houllier has won plenty of trophies both here and in France - that puts him in a better light. I for one, want results. I want trophies. I don't give a **** about whining primadonnas who think that we should play like Barcelona every week.
  15. Great to see people willing to give Houllier a chance. **** idiots.
  16. This basically sums up what I'd like to say. It's nice to have options and still be strong.
  17. Talks with the club? That can mean anything. Curbs - Hey guys, hire me! AVFC - No. Curbs - Please? AVFC - Go away. *click* Curbs - Oh.
  18. Houllier seems to be a hit and miss type character - I'd be happy to take a few misses if we won some trophies though! The thing that bothers me is that he hasn't managed a club since 2007, which is a big negative. I'd prefer to get someone in with their finger on the pulse, so to speak.
  19. But how can you be happy or not until you see what they bring to the club? The only fair thing to do is give whoever it is a chance from the off. A blank slate and then judge them on what they do.
  20. Yeah but a mistake is a mistake. Football is an unforgiving sport and everyone is judged on results. I'm not saying that Lerner or MON should be harrangued at all but you have to judge people in this game by what they do and the results that they produce. Best intentions mean nothing.
  21. Whether someone is the right man or not will only be told by time. We have to give whoever comes in a chance and support them whether we think they'll do well or not. The last thing we need is another Downing/Heskey situation where people will slag them off because they didn't like them from the start - it doesn't do us or the team any good.
  22. If we get the right man in, I don't mind waiting a while. This season is now about stability and organising a new plan for the future with a new man in charge. It'll take some time for things to settle down and the new guy is going to want to shape the team the way he wants, so we're in for some new change over the next year or two.
  23. Seriously, who **** cares if we have to wait until January to get some new players? We have a pretty good squad at the moment and we need to get the right man in. The right choice is vitally important and it's only fair to Randy, who hasn't done anything visibly wrong since taking over, to give him time to make the right decision. Buying a striker or whatever is not really going to solve anything at this stage - we need a manager more than we need anything else by a very long **** way.
