  1. New contract? Surely having a laugh. Last two games could easily have yielded 4 points and we fail to score in either. Baffled by the Bennett substitution, what is going on with Benteke and where 12 points will come from? This is going to be a very close call with the drop and if we go I would obviously be disappointed but not in the least bit surprised. Aston Villa Proud History.
  2. Lambert has to take the blame for putting together a squad that hasn't enough depth to keep them out, or fielding a strong captain
  3. Happy until Vlaar went off as soon as the two CB were left together I knew we would go behind and until he returns, that 30 point tally that was in reach at half time might be a long time coming. Baker and Clark alone together means a big step backwards.
  4. knew we'd go behind as soon as that pair were left together at the back, so frustrating
  5. Should have taken advantage of them being as bad as Sunderland in the first 15 mins of the second half. Awful refereeing from the booking of Baker in the first 5 mins, awarding against Gabby for a perfectly legit challenge that was cleared by a diving header and 2 silly red cards. Beginning to think Sylla is going to be a crucial player for us MOTM
  6. That was not easy to listen to. I Love Gabby!!
  7. My optimism about the game has lessened now I found out who the referee is.
  8. Game of two halves, we even defended reasonably well first half. Most disappointing thing was the substitutions resulted in nothing, we actually got worse (not the first time this year). A point would have been a good result today, and even just hoofing it forward in the last ten minutes may have proven more productive. On paper we can get out of it, but I don't think we have the experience to scrap and the last twenty minutes reinforces that view.

    Relegation

Started watching in 1971. For me this is the worst ever. I no longer know what the 'bright future plan' consists of. However as Randy has owned an NFL club before, I can't help thinking where we would be without relegation as in American Football. Would Lerner and Faulkner be content to perpetually serve up this garbage? Imagine playing in a league where you could be consistently this awful year after year and not have to change it. I don't want us to go down, but I think we will. The technical ability of our players is more than good enough to be further up the table than we are. It's the organisation and the tactics especially the laughable defending that are the problem, guess that's down to the manager. The return of Dunne to be our saviour? More experience yes but he's hardly been a member of a rock solid defence in recent years has he? We need a good defensive midfielder and an on field leader. With each game, sadly, I become more indifferent.
  10. It was Doncaster 3-0 but 8-0 Chelsea and Bradford because we had 2 legs to sort it have surpassed that easily.
  11. Before November, I'm already resigned to a relegation scrap which we will be lucky to survive. This is a championship group of players who would struggle to get automatic promotion. El Ahmadi and Vlaar's distribution at times was awful and better players would have really punished us for it. Benteke up front with ten men = managing the situation, the instant he was replaced by Bent we were under constant pressure and it was only a matter of time before we caved in. I can fully understand Benteke starting because the creativity through midfield was nearly non-existant so at least he provides a target unlike Bent. The organisation of defending the flanks was poor and actually a point was the best we could have hoped for after going down to ten men. I dislike Phil Dowd with a passion but in reality we shoul have been down to nine. MOM Guzan followed by Benteke and for a stand in Herd did well.
  12. We will always be in trouble when we have a squad so thin that Bannan and Delph are in contention to start. With Delfouenso, they should realistically be out on loan.
  13. Definitely do not want KMac, although if the statement said vibrant, then it's unlikely.
  14. Optimistic about the game but cautious about who the ref is. When they came to VP West Brom played for fouls to give them set piece after set piece. This became less obvious after the ridiculous sending off of Herd and they really took over. We need to be defending set pieces which we haven't done well during the season.
  15. He inherited a squad capable of a top half finish. He has made them play in a completely anti Aston Villa style. Last nights team was definitely championship quality only and one that would struggle to make the play offs. I won't begrudge any of the other teams staying up at our expense because if we go it will be because we deserve to. I don't post often on here but I've been around long enough to remember the abuse aimed at Doug on here. I wonder what he must be thinking looking at this total shower of s***. In 40 years of watching Villa I've never seen such a hopeless situation and my attitude is drifting towards indifference. Hopefully Lerner will sell, the board clearly have not got a clue about how to be successful in English football.
  16. The balloons! Clapping the opposition goalie then booing when he waved! Sign of my growing age is that when Peter Shilton came on during the half time v Chelsea that I was disappointed there were no chants of a certain ladies name. Adverts for products from crude oil Esso, Duckhams, Texaco etc Winners Matches 21 home games Replayed cup matches three days after the original. Playing Blackpool at home one day then away the next one Easter, rather than having to delay kick off to 5:30 so Stoke RFC can have 2 days rest. Going to Derby on 27 Dec 1975 and having no room at all even at 1:30, certainly not enough to read their programme which was a newspaper.
  17. The Stoke game is huge. If we beat them - and we should, I can see us picking up enough points for being safe 38 points for safety I reckon. Whoever wins out of us and the Albion in the derby will be the highest.
  18. Don't live in England so Chelsea was my third game this season. I was really struck by the change in atmosphere after Collins scored. 75 mins of resignation followed by 15 mins of pulsating passion. Mostly because a player came on who ran at the Chelsea defenders. If we attack the only game we might get nothing out of is Man U. If we attack at Villa Park it will be rocking and we will be nowhere near relegation. I'd keep Lichaj in the team for his long throws, they create chances. With the games remaining if we go down it will be because we are not good enough, not because of the players or the fans but the negative approach of the manager. If we go down the owners of the club will have to bear responsibility for employing him.
  19. He had a difficult job on Saturday partnered with Baker, but he played really well and gave 100% I'd be happy with a Collins Cuellar partnership for the rest of the season.
  20. In more ways than one! This is the time last season when Blues had some injuries from which they couldn't keep up form which would have seen them safe. I wouldn't like to see him as manager long term but as we had an Academy midfield yesterday I'd give KMac a go until the season end.
  21. Perhaps at the next match we will be encouraged to chant DEEEFENCE DEEEFENCE while quarterback Collins attempts to hit receiver Bent for a record low of receptions while our special team look on from the bench. TOUCHDOWN VILLA
