I was watching a repeat of the game tonight on Football first and i heard the commentators mention the word 'cynical' in releation to us (not in a bad way). They were talking about the difference from last year. Cynical = experience in my opinion. We fouled today when we had to, didnt let players run through with the ball which happened time after time last year. This team will only get better

I think Villa could take a couple of weeks wages of bent and bet on palace staying up in paddy power and would make a good bit more than 2 mill the odds would be that high. Def no deal

I really can't see anyone coming in for Ireland. I don't think he would be an asset to any club in the Premier League, even if he was on sensible wages, let alone the crazy sum he is actually on. No one in the Championship could afford him (bar maybe QPR and even 'arry isn't that stupid), which only leaves a move abroad. Again, where would he add enough to be worth £50-£60k a week? I don't think there is a club on the planet that 1) can pay those wages and 2) he would be an asset to. We're stuck with Ireland until his contract is up. Our best hope is to get him out on loan with the other club picking up maybe 25% of his wages. And that would be 20k a week. Blackburn are trying to out Pederssen and he is on 20k a week. No Championship club will pay that either. There is more money in football now than there ever has been, yet 90% of clubs are in serious debt. Its like everything in this world, everything is going to the top 2%. Over the past 5 years clubs have been wreckless with their cash including us. This is why we are going to find it very hard to get shot of these hanger ons. Clubs are all starting to wake up to the crazy wages which have been paid in the past.

First half I would agree with you. But in the second half, they looked the more dominant team. Looks like they took a while to get into the game. Yeah i wrote that at end of first half. Con I've been pretty much on your side with regards to Banaan getting too much undeserved abuse thus far, however now, you surely must be taking the piss re Kiyotake being his replacement? I never understood the joke Bannan has turned into with some of our fans when we have someone like Ireland and Hutton at the club on alot more money and never came through the ranks.

I feel sorry for Lambert slightly. I reckon he came in thinking he would be able to get rid of the chaff quicker than has happened (thats if it even does happen). It will definitely have slowed his plans down a good deal. Also while filling the squad with young players has worked out well, l i still think to push on you have to add 1 or 2 quality youngish players at a stage. People using the argument 'it worked out well in the past for us' have to realise Lambert and MON/McLeish have totally different ideas on what type of player to buy to build a team. We can’t judge Paul Lamberts buying ability of a quality player for around 12-15 million on that of his predecessors. Just to put this straight, I think we need 1 or 2 quality signings of the 10-12 million mark to push on to the next level and bring the cheaper guys along with them. Im not talking about anymore players than that.

I think Bent will go, but later in the window as one of the parties (maybe us, maybe Newc or Fulham) compromise and do the deal. It will probably be in the last week of the window, maybe even deadline day. We will have some deals lined up in case it happens late, assuming we want to re-invest in the squad at that point. So what I am saying is that I think we won't see a Kiyotake or AM signing until very late in the window, similar to the Benteke deal last summer.
