Do not like Altidore for us. If we did bring him in, he would be a squad player because he is certainly not better than Benteke and he does not possess the skill to play in the Gabby/Weimann role. I do not think an out and out forward is what we will be in for January. We will most likely sign CAMs and Wingers to play Gabby and Weimann's roles then rely on those two for depth at forward.

Come now John. Those that have said they would want Lambert retained even if we are relegated are not saying they are fine with relegation. They perceive Lambert as a good manager with a plan for the future, and if one step to sustained top finishes is a season in the championship, that is a hit they are willing to take. If you disagree about Lambert and the direction of the club, that is fine, but do not construct a straw man to argue with. Just on a side note. I think most of the ridiculous arguments that happen here come down to people taking what someone said, contorting it into the most extreme example of the opinion put forth, and then they argue with that extreme opinion. No need to do that.

That is exactly the point Cas. Some on here are advocating the MON way, but look where Sunderland are. We are choosing a different path but find ourself in the same position as Sunderland. The real question is which team kicks on in the second half. I think Villa will, thereby vindicating the transfer strategy of PL, but only time will tell.

Sunderland were in an awful position before MON took over - 18th I believe - and he really has had only one transfer window to right the ship. Not much different to me,. The comparison that could be made is in transfer strategy. Sunderland and Villa spent about the same amount of money, but Sunderland bought all "proven" premier league talent - Johnson, Saha, Fletcher - while we purchased young. We are in about the same position, but I feel our team is improving while theirs is stagnate at best. Interested what you think of that Morpheus.

Can't argue O'Neill is shit because of Sunderland's current position but Lambert is doing a good job. I think Lambert is doing the right thing so I am certainly not slagging him, but that statement is hypocritical IMO.

No I don't. If they want him to leave, I want them to say he is absolutely not going anywhere in order to drive up the price. If we freeze him out and say we are certainly selling him, we would be lucky to get 8 million back for him.
