  1. Yeh. Usually posts sensible stuff. Surprised he's gone down this route.
  2. Would never happen, and he is getting on a bit I suppose, but I think Zaha would fit Emery's system superbly. I really like him as a player.
  3. I’ve been banging this drum for a while. Ings has another 12 months at this level, tops. His body isn’t capable of going any longer. He looks unfit, slow and overweight as far as I’m concerned. We should never have signed him. To get the deal we have now is good business.
  4. I’m not saying get rid, I’m just saying that they’ll become squad players more than being guaranteed starters. Bailey isn’t consistent enough and I don’t think Buendia or Cash are the level we need to progress. Great squad options.
  5. He’d have done that before the bid.
  6. I agree. It was a panic buy at the time and nothing he’s done since has changed my mind. Ings was not the right signing for Villa at the time. It was a major factor in why Smith lost his job trying to shoehorn him into a system he wasn’t familiar with. Ings isn’t a bad player but he wasn’t the right fit back then and he isn’t the right fit now. Get rid and invest in the future. Back the scouts. Back the manager.
  7. Disagree with this tbh. It’s been a f***** excellent move for him. He was never good enough for top team and he’d have known that. To get the contract he did off us was all his Xmas’s come at once. It’s his retirement contract that means kids kids won’t ever have to work. Ings came here for the money. Without question. He’s done well out of us.
  8. Yes, all good points. Watkins can frustrate the hell out of me, but I just don’t see him as being a problem. He’s not on massive wages - 50/70k and I think he’s a great option if not a starter. If he demands a move then yeh, you have a problem. For me, Bailey, Buendia and Cash are the next three to be replaced in the XI.
  9. FWIW, a well respected ITK on a West Ham forum is saying a deal is close and the fee is agreed. Can see this happening by the end of the week. If a fee is agreed, it means the player is open to the move and the buying club have been encouraged to bid.
  10. I’d be very surprised if Emery wanted to let Watkins go. I think he’s a managers dream even if he isn’t prolific. I actually think the key at the moment is to provide Watkins with more quality and goal scorers around him. The way Firmino had Salah and Mane around him at Liverpool.
  11. There’s a good chance Digne, Ings and Coutinho will all be on our bench come Feb. That’s £415k a week in wages. Im all for having a squad, but that’s just criminal mismanagement there. Moving Ings on is a start. Hopefully we can move the others on too if Unai doesn’t fancy them.
  12. This. So many people on Twitter saying we should sell in the Summer? Yeh, about that. Who’s going to want him then given the wages he’s on and it being a much more open market and people can plan more and shop around. It’s not a coincidence there have been links to Southampton, Everton and West Ham. Go check out the league table. Right now, all three of those clubs need a striker who can score a handful of goals between now and the end of the season. The cost of relegation is too high and they’ll be balancing that up against the cost of Ings transfer fee and wages. They might feel Ings at £15m and a 2/3yr contract on similar wages to what he’s on here is the better alternative to getting relegated. We need to take advantage of this desperation. If a club is willing to take those wages off our hands, and give us a £15m transfer fee, then more fool them. He’d only be a stop gap for them I imagine, given how immobile and unfit I think he looks recently. I don’t mind Ings, I think he has a place in our squad, I just know that financially, a deal would make massive sense for Villa here even if we don’t replace him. We need to plan for the future. Ings on £125k a week to sit on the bench for the next 18 months is not the future.
  13. I’m not saying replace him, but there is a chance Deulofeu will be here regardless of Ings. The club will sell Ings if somebody meets our valuation. He’s simply too expensive and we have a chance to claw back some of the money we should never have spent on him.
  14. So many caveats to that though. Either way, the club will make the right decision and if any decent offer comes in, he’ll be on his way. He looks overweight to me.
  15. If we managed to get someone line Deulofeu, we could perhaps play him behind Bailey worst case? It’s not ideal losing an option in Ings, but he’s old, he looks unfit to me (subjective), his resale value is dwindling and he’s on massive wages. A little short term pain for long term gain has to be the answer here, shortly? He’s also really not that good.
  16. He’s scored as many goals from open play as Watkins.
  17. This. We’re not letting him go without a replacement, I wouldn’t have thought, but even then, you have to consider the financial side. He isn’t going to be an option long term and he’s on massive wages. He’s pretty immobile for his age and he’s not getting any younger. Take the money and reinvest either now or in the Summer. Let him be somebody else’s problem.
  18. I’m a bit indifferent on him. Think he’s probably an upgrade on McGinn?
  19. McKennie would be such a 'meh' signing. If we were signing anyone from Juventus, we should have got that Bentancur when we had the chance.
  20. One thing I will say about Ounahi is he is a very confident carrier of the ball. He doesn't mind holding onto to it for a while and doesn't seem flustered in crowded spaces.
