  1. Fine. Agree or disagree, but don’t call it bizarre. I said students have suffered, more than most groups I know. They at least deserve our sympathy and respect, not to be mocked and belittled. That is my message. If you find that bizarre, we experience reality through different parameters.
  2. Because ‘most’ isn’t the same as ‘all’. What I wrote really shouldn’t be all that controversial.
  3. But why are these mutually exclusive? What did you actually find bizarre? All I actually said was students as a group have suffered and sacrificed. I didn’t say ‘students have suffered and f*** the old’.
  4. Many students have suffered a lot through this. More than most groups I know. Not from disease and starvation, but from severe loneliness, depression and from having their academic progress halted and stalled. Economic compensation might not be the answer, but as a society we’d be wise to acknowledge their sacrifice and never call them spoilt or weak for speaking out about what they’ve given up. They deserve that.
  5. Thanks. We’re absolutely fine. All symptoms have passed for me, and were very mild anyway, and the boy has been largely unsymptomatic, but has a touch of the sniffles. But if his test is positive, we’ll almost certainly be spending xmas eve isolating.
  6. Sorry to hear that. I’m out of isolation on Thursday, but half expecting Zen Jr’s test to come back positive today, which would mean we’re spending another few days to ourselves, missing xmas with the rest of the family.
  7. Finished Witcher s2. Really good. Too short. Want more, now.
  8. Sure. But ‘not WWII’ is setting the bar for normalcy and quality of life rather low. We really shouldn’t trivialise the toll living with restrictions - whether they are currently in effect, or if it’s the uncertainty of knowing they can return - has taken on us.

Write what you actually mean, then, instead of the usual riddles and sarcasm.

So, you’re happy Joe Biden’s bill that would make the US slightly less neo-lib has failed, because Joe Biden is really a neo-lib and no better than Joe Manchin who is stopping Biden’s bill to make the US slightly less neo-lib? Or what?
  11. A quick Yougle suggests it’s on Paramount+.
  12. If you’re talking about current rules and guidelines in the UK, maybe. If you’re talking about the monumental burden some groups and industries have carried, and are currently carrying in other countries, through lockdowns and restrictions, it’s way off the mark.
  13. No light, Mexican lager to wash it down? /dad jokes
  14. There is no other explanation for this than big club bias. It’s f***ed up.
  15. We were just going to have two immediate family members over for xmas eve (which is the main event here). According to quarantine rules in Norway, we probably won’t be allowed to do that, even if we all test negative by then.
  16. PCR confirmed as positive. I feel awful, not from COVID, but from the fact that my six year old son almost certainly has to spend xmas in quarantine because I had (effectively) a sinus infection the week before. None of the other two in the house are experiencing any symptoms, almost a full week since mine started. They’re getting tested tomorrow, but you’d think they’d have been showing symptoms by now.
  17. Absolutely. And, even more importantly, vaccinate the world.
  18. Won 3-2 in the end. That is one inexperienced and unglamorous Barca side, though. Is Xavi doing a complete rebuild? Or is it just the result of a bankrupt club and a depleted squad? Or both?
  19. This definitely wasn’t meant to lead down a path where I end up defending Bayern. I was emphatically saying an «f RB Leipzig!», not an «f RB Leipzig and yey Bayern!» It’s just that RB are a) actively mocking the German membership model and b) part of a group that has committed unspeakable crimes against football. Which means they should be nowhere near the professional end of the German club football pyramid, let alone the higher echelons of European football. Bayern can go do one for all I care, but I recognise their right to be part of the league.
  20. Again, no love for Bayern. But again, they are 50+1? Which, if they are, make them just a trifle more palatable than RB.
  21. Surprised to see Blackburn flying high. Even more surprised still to see Tony Mowbray still in charge there.
  22. I was gonna say, the only slight diffence from your ordinary light winter cold, is that maybe it’s lasted a bit longer. Maybe. Still not even a week, mind, but I’m not usually ill for more than a couple of days. Then again, I probably wouldn’t have usually classed myself as being ill with my current symptoms.
  23. Looking forward to starting Witcher s2 tonight. Most recently finished Only Murders In The Building on Disney+. A kind of true crime satire, light comedy and decent whodunnit, starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. I enjoyed it. Harmless bit of fun, and kind of clever at times.
  24. IF I have it, which is likely given the positive lat flow test, I have to say my symptoms have been/are incredibly mild. Like your ordinary common cold or mild sinus infection, the kind where most people before COVID would have just laboured through and gone to work. Awaiting the PCR results now.
  25. Got no love for Bayern either. But aren’t they at least 50+1? Everything RB can get in the sea.
