  1. For the sake of this, admittedly off topic, Martinez McLeish debate how about the participants watch tonight and Sundays respective clashes against United and give a fair assessment of how both teams setup tactically and the end result.
  2. This. Had we got Martinez last summer we would be in the same position and moaning about the useless Spanish word removed. Maybe we be calling him El Tw@t, El Cluelesso, El Hombre Loco....:? I strongly disagree with this view. You cannot compare us with Wigan. It’s like comparing Fulham to Liverpool and concluding Dalglish has done a better job. The playing field is nowhere near level. We have spent much more this season and have a much better squad yet end up in a relegation scrap. And Wigan fans actually support Martinez.
  3. Yorke went on and played for the best team in the world at the time and made a major contribution. Bent is not capable of that IMO. Really!!! What absolute bullsh1t on so many levels. I wont even argue that a lucky Untied side were ever the best team in the world. The same side that got served by Barca the following year?!! But I would argue that Darren Bent ≥ Andy Cole United, in 1999, by winning the Champions League, proved themselves to be the best side in Europe. Although in the world would be opinion, admittedly. That is a fact. Andy Cole or Bent. That is opinion. But why hasn't a top club ever bought Bent? You saying we are not a top club?!! A combination of timing, price Tag and his demand for first team football. There is no doubt he is a better option than numerous strikers at the current top 4-5 clubs but he was never going to be a cheap option once he started scoring for fun at Charlton. If we had of got him at the right time we could of tasted champions league football ourselves.

  5. Hughes and all the others would have wanted transfer money. There is no money. McLeish was the only one willing to accept that. WTF?!!! so what exactly did we give in exchange for Given, Hutton, Nzogbia and the loan fee for Jenas?!! We has pelnty of f**kin money. Nevermind his own contract...top 20 best paid managers in football
  6. So shocked….actually shaken by this. I don’t even know what to say……….ultimate professional. Get well soon Stan. Replace any form of protest with "Sing for Stan"
  7. A really positive take on this would be the board told him he can't renew contracts as that will be a decision for the new villa manager!
  8. We signed Given, Hutton, Jenas and Nzogbia. Even without them we have a better squad than many of the teams around us.
  9. Who has Martinez relegated? On a shoestring, he has single handedly kept Wigan in the premier league and played fairly decent football to boot. Did you know see Wigan, yes Wigan, play keep ball against Liverpool last week? So what if they kept the ball and won at Liverpool. Have you not seen their league position? We beat Chelsea don't you know. Are we now saying he's a good manager because Wigan are in a relegation fight all season, Every season just to escape at the last minute? Sounds like fun. It's to be expected with the funds and the squad they have. In fact, it's an achievement that they even do escape every season. Like us then? Shit squad, no funds? Financially we dwarf Wigan. In fact we are in a vastly better position financially than all the other clubs in the bottom half of the table. Never mind Everton and Newcastle.
  10. Have you actually looked at what he's doing at West Ham?!! FFS he's about as popular with their lot as AML is here. His football is sh1te.....we have had enough of that….and their imploding by the way We need a new philosophy at this club. It’s such a pity Martinez turned us down as he started Swansea’s evolution into a good footballing side. It’s exactly what we need here. It would take time but it would be well worth it in the end.
  11. Actually it’s less effective. If the 20,000 or so season ticket holders headed to the coast with buckets I think randy would take much more notice! And it would be a better day out than some of our home games!
  12. I suppose you can scan in their pay slips?!
  13. We will get ripped apart. No real team spirit left. Horrible manager. The one great thing about football is that whatever happens it will manifest itself on the pitch. If it's right, you'll see it on the pitch, if it's wrong, it will be on the pitch. In business you can get fellas who are doing crooked deals and nobody knows anything about it. There is an ultimate honesty about football. Politics is part of the lying game, I wouldn't trust any of them. In football you can hide for a while, but ultimately the truth comes out. I always loved that." - John Giles
  14. I would love us to fluke a cup! And get relegated? I would love to enjoy watching us play FOOTBALL! Who mentioned relegation? My point was when you win a cup, you deserve to win it. No such thing as a "fluke" in winning a cup. By the same token you could argue that we "fluked" the European Cup as we got battered by Bayern? In my eyes it doesn't make it any less special or take the shine of it. If you win a cup, you are "winners" and deservedly so. Well you were discussing the Blouse cup win which coupled with relegation really did take the shine off it…..fluke or not!

  16. Even though he called us a" half arsed club that used to be famous"? If we were picking from the Championship it would be Mckay or McDermott for me. I like McDermott but he would be a bigger risk. Holloway has Prem experience and he will have learnt from that. He has managed to regroup from relegation , despite the subsequent loss of their best players and serious budget constraints, and mount a promotion challenge. Most importantly he has achieved this by continuing to play attractive attacking football. I don’t care what he called us. I don’t like the way he goes on but I like the football his teams play and would gladly listen to all his interviews in exchange for Villa playing his brand of football. And what’s more I would love to see what he could do with our current players.
  17. I honestly think if we fail to make the 40 points total then Randy will sack him. Be careful what we wish for however. The Villa job was much more attractive 12mths ago and we ended up getting turned down by Martinez and then opting for McLeish! I live in fear of them giving Bruce the job! Realistically we would be looking to the Championship, SPL or raiding Norwich or Swansea. Personally given the financial constraints and the makeup of our squad I think Ian Holloway would be worth a punt regardless of previous indiscretions.
  18. What were the overall wage numbers? £83.3m, plus £12m termination costs. It doesn't make it clear what the latter includes. Is there a breakdown of the 83.3m showing playing staff, coaching staff, medical staff, directors salary etc.?
  19. Yeah, that was easy to understand. It is the Milner money I don't understand. Just 18 mill????? its quiet simple £18m + £8m (Ireland) = £26m
  20. Tom I’m sure you’re taking the pi$$ otherwise that’s an extraordinary point of view! On the evidence of this season he has shown he is totally incapable of getting the best out of players whether they are seasoned internationals or young inexperienced players. Unfortunately, for both the club and the manger, he just does not have the ability to manage this club and that is never going to change. Randy and Paul need to hold up their hands and admit their costly mistake(s) and move on.
  21. Hope he makes a full and quick recovery. They will know more when he gets a 2nd scan. Hope he is somehow fit and back in contention for the Euros.
  22. Pearce is taking temp charge...so its up to Bent now. If he keeps scoring for us he will defo start against Holland, probably with Wellbeck.
  23. If Harry takes the England job it could be bad news for Bent or good news for Redknapp's missus!
  24. I hope it works out. A run of games is exactly what he needs. I don’t doubt his ability and this could really be good for him and for Villa. It’s really annoying the amount of stick our players get on this forum from so called Villa “supporters”. Hope he forces ye all to consume some more humble pie just like Ireland and Keane have done recently.
