  1. A terrific servant to this club. I wish him the best wherever he goes.
  2. He never really looked good enough. At 29 if we got half our money back I’d take it. If not then PL will give him a chance and given what he’s done with players at Norwich he could prove a decent premier league player.
  3. winning That is my favourite style. think MON 2.0. With several new apps like: Ball retention squad rotation substitutions tactics and a free trial version of anti virus software to prevent that pesky Heskey virus from getting into your operating system. I like it...except hate squad rotation, although guess we got nobody to rotate so wont apply to villa Its Fergie like squad rotation. As in he still gets the results.
  4. Same reason Norwich are getting rid. He almost placated them with Ayala until they realised he had been at Liverpool!! Sure the man doesn't even have a passport!
  5. Looks set to be announced tomorrow! Happy Days. Brilliant appointment by the Board. Finally got the perfect man for the job. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/31/paul-lambert-walks-out-norwich-villa?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+theguardian%2Ffootball%2Frss+%28Football%29
  6. I am still refusing to get too carried away. He has been my number one choice but I was unsure we would be able to get him here. He has done an immense job at Norwich. His squad rotation, tactical awarness and transfer dealings have reminded me of early era fergie. I actually think he has what it takes to transform this club and drag us back to where we belong. It's a huge task, one I don't underestimate, that's how highly I rate him. Happy days ahead if this happens. And this is me trying not to get carried away!!
  7. I will clutch at any straw at the minute. He would be the dream appointment. Wolves and West Brom have went totally leftfield with their appointments which does make me wonder if we will do something similar?!! OGS was a nod in that direction!
  8. You're jumping to multiple conclusions there. I just don't see it being Lambert. - be an out of work guy or Mcdonald. Hope it is Lambert That's fair enough, but there are plenty of other people out there besides Lambert. There are....but there are few, if any, that can match his achievements in the last few years. I do not want to get too hopeful though. I would be astounded if we got him and it turned out Liverpool did not even make an approach for him.
  9. It doesn't matter where they come from chap as long as they are good It does when you're on a limited budget. British players tend to be much more expensive. Paul Lambert managed to bring in Anthony Pilkington, Elliott Bennett and Kyle Naughton (loan) for next to nothing. They all look good in the premier league. Also he is a European cup winner with Dortmund where he is still a club legend. More continental experience than the lauded ogs!! I honestly think he is potentially one of the best managers in England. If we get him the board deserve a huge amount of credit. They will have pulled off a major coup.
  10. Are you actually flippin serious?!! :x Engage your brain there for a minute and you will realise that we are in the top 30 biggest clubs in world football both by revenue and wages. In England we have the 2 Manchester Clubs, 3 London Clubs and Liverpool who are ahead of us. Outside of England the top 4 in Spain, the top 3 in Germany the top 4-5 in Italy and the top 2-3 in France. The Villa job is a massive job in club football. We just need our board to sell it right. But what players have we got Given, Hutton, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Ireland, Nzogbia, Makoun, Gabby & Bent. The majority of people on here want the back 4 gone so that leaves us with Given, Ireland, Nzogbia, Makoun, Gabby & Bent and a few kids. Ive no doubting that the villa job is a huge job but we are in right trouble of going down at the minute without an overhaul of the squad, we simply have not got the quality we used to have. Its not so long ago we had a back line with Mellberg Laursen Bouma. A midfield with Young Barry Petrov Milner. What have we got at the moment? Given, Hutton, Dunne, Collins, Warnock, Ireland, Nzogbia, Makoun, Gabby & Bent…….All of these players are internationals and would all pick up contracts at Premiership clubs. Any decent manager should relish the chance to work with our squad of players. Get the best out of the ones he thinks he can work with best and move the rest of them on.

  12. No he has not CONFIRMED this at all. In his above post he says it is what he thinks. Let's just leave it shall we. :!: Big goss this morning is that Lambert has only ever been on a 12 month rolling contract with NCFC & it's up this week. If that's true & he IS & has been the No 1 target all along then that MIGHT just be the reason for the delay. A rolling contract, AFAIK, is always 12 months from expiring...i.e. 1 years compensation to pay at any point, it never actually runs out. It usually means the contract automatically renews for a set period at a certain date subject to either side terminating it. In the football industry this usually means that the contract will “roll over” automatically for the next season unless the club (or person) decides to end it at the end of the season.
  13. Poyet looks like a bookies tip to me. They made a killing off Villa fans on OGS!
  14. It's Mauro, not Mario. I think the deal was done by the previous regime. Bit like Holman here. In fact as far as I remember Bruce tried to scupper the deal and bring him to Sunderland. Bruce used the same scouting contacts at Sunderland as he did at Wigan.
  15. I have frequently heard people say the same thing but actually struggle to find an example? Correct me if I’m wrong but I’d imagine most of the players you are thinking of were signed by Wigan before Martinez got there? Buy the way I think he would be a good choice and I think he could get a lot out of our current players.
  16. Funny enough read Why Villa Should Be The Dream Job...http://www.football365.com/faves/7773764/F365-Says
  17. You'd hardly be so good as to give a brief bio of each of these chaps! I don't really trust wikipedia!
  18. I wouldn't want him within a million miles of VP, but Bruce hasn't done a bad job over the years, and is certainly better than some of the names bandied about. I agree, i don`t want him either, but i wouldn`t be suprised at all if they went for him if they can`t get lambert or martinez. Don't think so! He would not fit their criteria. If they cannot get Lambert or Martinez I’d imagine they will approach the likes of M Laudrup, Koeman, Poyet, Zola, Steve Clarke etc.....may even Philip Cocu Not that we know who they are after, but what makes you think the names you have mentioned would be the types that would be approached. Nothing in lerners history suggests he would even know of the majority of them The interviewing of OGS has shown that they are spreading the net wider than before. In fairness I am just guessing but if they can sniff out OGS then surely the likes of Michael Laudrup cannot go unnoticed.

To be fair to them they surprised us all with OGS

  21. Firstly, playing free flowing entertaining football does not guarantee success and neither does playing boring hoof ball. To suggest we have a greater chance of success if we play dull football is fundamentally very flawed. Secondly, I think nearly every supporter would want to at least try to play decent football. Let's face it, we aren't going to be winning anything anytime soon so why not at least be entertained each week rather than hold out for a 0-0 at Stoke. Thirdly, I think you have picked an incredibly narrow period of time to back up your "THEYVE ALL WON SWEET FA THIS SEASON" comment... Barcelona = 13 trophies in 4 years. Chelsea = 5 trophies in 4 years. This Barcelona team will be remembered for decades into the future... similar to Cruyff's Total Football. Chelsea will be forgotten. 5 trophies in 4 years will be forgotten?? The reason why I would love to see Lambert here is because he would provide the best of both worlds. He likes to play football the purist’s way but he is primarily a winner and is willing to employ whatever tactics necessary to get the best out of his players in any given match.
  22. Prob give the other one for the Geordies chief scout!!
