Solid keeper with a great attitude. Would be a very good signing. I am shocked to see the odd Villa fan underrating him but I shouldn’t really be! Reminds me of the same fans turning their noses up at Rafa and Mark Hughes then nearly shitting themselves when McLeish got the job! FFS Given is the best keeper we can get!

What makes you think that? My inability to accept this as truth! To be honest it’s the calibre of manager we seem to be targeting. I would not have picked Alex McLeish in a month of Sundays if I was the owner and I am still not convinced that he will be appointed. However I accept that RL has the right to appoint whomever he chooses and follow whatever strategy he thinks is best for the future of the club. I do however DEMAND RL to give us fans an indication of what the clubs short and long term strategies and targets are and the factors taken into account when appointing our new manager whoever that may be. It is his job to sell the appointment to us! PS. I am starting to think there will be a double appointment – manager and director of football!! :winkold:

So Pannu is making bollox up as suspected Exactly. In fairness he never said Villa made an illegal approach. He did however infer it and any subsequent email from Vila Park may have been just used to wind him up and create publicity.

Why is everyone still panicking about McLeish? LMA have confirmed he quit over a multitude of reasons. He believes he was subject to constructive dismissal involving the sacking of his chief scout, the signing of players against his wishes and disrespect from the admin and board of small heath.

This whole thing makes us Villa fans look like headless chickens. FFS, this addiction our fans have to speculation and rumour is becoming ridiculous. I don’t know if other clubs fans suffer from the same affliction. But our fans look all the more ridiculous because since RL has taken over the club, transfers and appointments have been carried out behind the glare of the media.

Looks like this will drag on over the wknd. I cannot see RL appointing Martinez, unless he is part of a double appointment with a DOF. Otherwise its still looks like Hughes to me and due to his notice period he cannot be appointed until end of June!

In fairness there has not been a huge amount of dithering. FFS Chelsea have not appointed anyone either. It will more than likely be the end of month by the time a manger is in place. Also there are a lot of other considerations if the manger is contracted to another club. Martinez – we had to seek and permission off Wigan to hold talks with him which we have done. We would then need to agree compensation and wait for him to return from holidays. Mark Hughes - has to serve a months notice so if it’s him you will have to wait until the end of the month officially while he could be already pulling the strings behind the scenes! David Moyes – Again we would and prob have sought permission from Everton to talk to him. IF we got him we could have to agree compensation. End of month at the earliest!

It’s amazing the rate at which each rumour gathers pace. I am not convinced by Martinez transfer record but I do like his style of football and the fact that he is willing to give young players a chance. I think these rumours will go full circle when it is confirmed that Mark Hughes is being interviewed!! As I said before I would love to be part of the interview panel. Wouldn’t you think RL would stream all the interviews live and allow the fans to vote for the appointment!

Van Gaal would be a brilliant appointment. But seriously can anyone really see him coming to the Villa? I am sure Randy and the board will sound out the likes of him and Ancelotti but I don’t think they will bother telling the fans and the media that they were told to pi$$ off!!

I would be happy with Moyes, Benitez or Hughes. I would not be happy with McClaren. I would be intrigued but worried with Martinez or Coyle. I would love to be part of the interview panel.

In fairness to Downing he has every right to wait for the club to sort out the manger situation before he considers signing a new contract. Anyway I think the club should take a hard-line on both him and Young if they don’t agree new deals. Both want to play for England in the Euro’s. They are contracted to us. We can be fair, agree a release fee and sign a new contract otherwise you will both spend the year on the f**kin bench! Honestly, I believe they will blink first!
