So let me just check; The 2 teams below both have away games at top 5 teams chasing champions league places. Neither of those teams battling relegation can afford to drop points. One of those teams below us is playing their third game in a week and is minus half their back four, whilst the other team will be missing their 3 top scorers as well as 2 of their more consistent players. Added to that the 2 teams chasing champions league places are bitter rivals. I'm not panicking, I'd be more worried if we were dependent on Man City given their last 2 or 3 performances than Arsenal or Spurs. And if it comes to it, I'd back us to avoid defeat next sunday.

We're fine. Arsenal are probably the worst team to play after a cup final as they play keep ball and Wigan won't have enough possession of the ball to influence the game. Yesterday's victory for Wigan was partly due to Man City lacking any urgency or pace in their play. Arsenal have pace going forward so I'd back them to get the point we need to be safe. I'm still backing Zog to send Wigan down next sunday.

  4. Autographed match ball from the Milan game in 94 when we beat them on penalties, presented by Yorkie. Pride of place in my lads bedroom.....

Perhaps now Mr Whelan might release a few extra tickets for our game and cash in whilst he can. Lots of empty seats at The DW for a few years to come...... Karma.........

Both Stoke and Sunderland are very poor teams. Southampton are a much better team than both of those so on the evidence of what i watched tonight I think Southampton will get at least a draw against Sunderland.

All of the above outcomes are possible, however I still think we can go to Wigan and beat them if we need to. There's going to be another twist and it wouldn't surprise me if Swansea get a point tomorrow.
  8. Mine arrived yesterday
  9. O'Shea is poor and Cuellar is a decent pro Cuellar is flat footed, we need to have players run at and behind him. Same for O'Shea really. Agreed, Di Canio might be a great motivator but he's hardly likely to have given either Carlos or O'Shea an extra yard of pace since his appointment. We are well capable of winning tonight as long as the crowd are patient, we don't need the nerves from the crowd affecting the players. Larsson is a decent free kick taker so as long as we don't concede any within shooting distance we'll be fine. Keep the faith !!!

No I think we'll get a point. Its their 3rd game in 6 days. The other 2 games being Man Utd away and a local derby with Tottenham at home. Both far bigger games for them than playing us. And a potential Europa League Final

I think today has been better for us than some on here are claiming. Wigan failing to win and Norwich and losing means that if we get a win on monday we will be 5 points clear of Wigan and a point behind Norwich. By all accounts Norwich didn't even manage a shot on target today so it's not impossible that we could be above them come 5pm next week. Newcastle look like they'll lose today so if we beat Norwich and get a draw on monday therefore picking up 4 points from the next 2 games we will be above Wigan, Norwich and potentially Newcastle. We go into the Sunderland game outside the bottom three and that is where we will stay for the rest of the season.
  12. Yeah if he's having some sort of breakdown, but the lad had been playing better of late and that form would have be fine against Sunderland. Its just harsh that he is getting so much stick when every player was poor last night and the managers gung ho approach added to it. We were open and weak because of what was a two man midfield. Like I said one goal came from the right and that should have been averted by Guzan claiming. Why isnt Gabby getting stick for not closing that Rafael cross down. Bennett tried to play Valencia offside, looked to me he had, lino didnt give it, now he's struggling to get back but still stopped Valencia crossing the ball in. Its no disgrace to be done by Rafael and Valencia a few times a game, this has happened to some of the leagues best LB's. Bit of a joke the stick this lad gets above others. Spot on, Bennett was exposed on monday when we should've protected him against the pace of Valencia. Neither Clark or Baker are quick enough to play left back.

As other posters have said, tonight has changed nothing. Anything out of tonight would've been a bonus. There's not too many teams that would've stopped Man Ure tonight especially after conceding so early. We've got rid of the hardest of our fixtures and the goal difference hasn't had too much of a hammering. If Spuds can grab 3 points and a decent goal return against Wigan then we're one game closer to the end of the season and one game less for Wigan to catch us. Next Monday's game is huge but i'm confident we'll be ok.
  14. Got my 3. Heard a whisper that Whelan is playing silly buggers and doesn't want us to have the full allocation so that we don't have any advantage should it go to the last match. What he doesn't realise is that the place will be swamped by claret and blue that day.

I think that's a fair assessment - okay so even if Wigan pick up wins against Swansea and Albion I still think we can go to the DW on the last day and avoid defeat. Their 2 easiest fixtures on paper are in the week before the cup final so maybe 4 points from those 2 games might be a little bit generous?

As with every club there are fans at VP that demand instant success. I think since the influence of Sky a different attitude has evolved with some sectors of all clubs fan bases. For instance there were fans booing at the end of the first half against Everton at the start of the season and there have been examples of this throughout the season. It seems that there are some that demand and expect instant results and have less patience than perhaps others. I'm not suggesting that they are any less fervent in their support however maybe they are quicker to jump on the backs of under performing players than others. It's a reflection of society in general, everything nowadays seems to be current and disposable. FWIW i think the fans have been magnificent this season, always at away grounds but in particular at the home defeat to Spuds. I can hand on heart say in over 40 years of attending Villa matches I have never booed a Villa player as it is counter productive and all it does is help the opposition. Yes I have criticized them afterwards when discussing the game or I've criticized managers and officials but never any player whilst on the field of play. All that matters to me is that we secure our premiership status at the end of the season, and in my view a supportive atmosphere at VP is more likely to help achieve it than a hostile atmosphere where players are nervous and edgy. It doesn't make me a better fan than those that do, but maybe it means I'm more patient.

Okay - I'll wager £10 to either Villatalk or Acorns that Wigan don't beat WBA. £10 to acorns if Wigan don't win Likewise if they do

You know that for certain? Of course not, it's an opinion, it's one I'm prepared to put money on . So what are you prepared to put money with reference to that game?

I also think they'll pick up a maximum of 4 points from that lot albeit via a different set of results than you predict. If we can grab a win and 2 draws from our remaining fixtures before we play them then we'll be ok. I also don't get why some think we will fall apart if we have to go to the DW stadium and avoid defeat to stay up. There's a world of difference between our current line up and the line up that day. Keep the faith

    1) 1 goal 2) No they don't 3) means nothing 4) Wigan are terrible at home and we have a better record away 5) See 4) All of the above, you're chatting shit. And they have a cup final to distract them. No need for the over dramatics just yet.

Correct. If we pick up 5 points from our remaining fixtures then they will need 8, and two of their opponents are chasing Champions League spots. Today hasn't been great for us but at least it means that the worst case scenario next weekend is that we are in the bottom 3 on goal difference only.
