Even if you accept that he's done well keeping us in the league (which I don't), then that's entirely different to having a new owner with potentially more money to spend. The man has performed appallingly, and deserves the sack for what he's done to this club over the past two disgraceful years. There is a bigger picture to be considered here too that some posters conveniently fail to see because they never queued up at the Odeon when they were kids but knew all about the film because they had seen the trailer on tv.

Yet two years ago anyone who thought we'd be in a relegation battle was mocked and laughed at. Some cracking posts over the last few pages but John's point is the stand out for me. Not because it agrees with my point of view but if that was the case that some were mocked on here for that opinion then expectation levels have been adjusted according to results in defence of the manager. I'm asking myself why is Lambert being defended so robustly when other managers of our club weren't? By and large the results have been similar to Mcleish yet most were glad to see him go without as much as a whimper. Is it that Lambert was the fans choice and its therefore hard to admit that we too got it as badly wrong as our chairman? Or is it that there have been mitigating circumstances which have influenced the results under Lambert and he should be given more time? I think those who are defending him maybe have lost sight of the most important factor of all in that football is a results business and for two seasons now results under Lambert have been poor with no sign of improvement. Even if the chairman's remit was to reduce wages while keeping us in the Premiership I cannot believe that our chairman was satisfied with performances leaving us with one or two results away from being relegated but we will soon find that out. Yes. Mitigating circumstances are the key point.

You've made our point for us in that paragraph. There is no improvement, there is no real progress and on that basis he doesn't deserve more time or more money. Well if i would have said what you have suggested I did I can see why you would think that. The fact that I have not said what you have suggested sort of negates the rest of your post for me. So where's the progress and improvement? Results? Points? League table? Performances? 2 years and really not much different to what he inherited. The turn around is not obviously discernible. We are being slowly turned around both on & off the pitch & both Lerner & Lambert have been instrumental in arresting this decline. The financial position is far more stable & if rumours are to be believed a take over is imminent. So to answer your question the progress & improvement is a subtle one, not immediately tangible, but it is comprehensible as long as you grasp it & is there for all to see. The whole Club has come through a really difficult but necessary remedial period. I like to think we are now, all of us, (This Board, the next board, The Manager, The players & the fans) in a much stronger position now to finally propel this fantastic Club onwards & upwards. I like to feel & have reason to believe that the worst is over.

Think its Kendrick reporting it though, would be a shame if we lose him on a free and to be fair Lambert has treated him well this season. He went out on loan, played well and was rewarded with regaining his place in the first team. Might be a Villa fan but I wouldn't blame him if he moved to Everton to play in Europe. Lambo said recently that Marc's new deal was definitely going to happen. I would definitely sign him up no question. I have always rated him highly & he can only improve further. He still needs to work harder on the defensive side of his game, especially helping out his full back but he is a very exciting talent going forward & he along with a fit Benteke are usually the Villa players that get the crowd buzzin'. The fact that he is a Villa fan is also a big plus too.
