  2. We just simply have to get this managerial appointment right. Lambert or Rodgers for me of those linked to the vacancy. I do like Martinez to as I think he has more than shown that he will not crack when the pressure is really cranked up. The other good thing is that he has great knowledge of Spanish & Central American Football so he could potentially find us some absolute gems at bargain basement prices. Tactically he is sound & he totally flummoxed the Premier League with his inspired 3 4 3 formation last season, just ask Fergie, Whinger & Dalglish! Rodgers & Lambert are better at developing British players & as that is what most of our current squad predominantly is I believe either choice would be ideal.
  3. I think I may possibly know the answer to this one, but which departure gave you the most satisfaction? Incidentally, for me it's not McLeish! I have nothing but total respect for him for what he tried to achieve in extremely demanding circumstances. The guy had guts even if his managerial credentials are debatable. But it was an exceptionally difficult season when all factors are taken into consideration & his LMA statement showed him to be a guy of genuine class. I wish him all the best. As for Heskey, the case his this, he spent a lot more time at Villa Park than McLeish & I can only recall his cameo man of the match award against Blackburn when he played like Maradona as being the only time he actually contributed anything of note! Like McLeish he is a decent enough guy, but as a footballer he is absolute PANTS!! So! That's 1-0 to Big Eck so far then! Over to you?
  4. He won't be coaching the strikers that's for certain. Might do well playing prop forward or Rugby League. Oh! I forgot! He was playing that at Villa Park! I hear Blackpool may make an offer soon? No! Not Ian Holloway, but the bloke running the Donkeys along the Golden Mile!! I heard Mark Delaney was offering to run him in the half mile? Yeh! It was the day Delaney's Donkey run the half mile race! Good Bye Emile, unlike your misses I certainly won't be missing you like e(mile!!) Apart from that, Good Luck, lot's of hard feelings, unless ofcourse you happen to end up back at sha. (Fingers (Hooves) crossed ) Oh & finally, farmer Giles says he's absolutely devestated as he will no longer be supplying you £60 grand's bale of hay per week anymore! pps - Armstrong, the first man on the moon kindly asks if you would sign the ball he found inside a crater during the lunar landing. He claims it's definitely one of yours as it's original flight path has been tracked back to your right hoof!! "Heskey's gone m'lud, Heskey's gone! Oh lord Heskey's gone!"
  5. Time to gatecrash this thread fellow Villa fans. OSG? FFS, do me a favour, please wake up & smell the coffee! How can the majority of fans on here be so taken in by a 45 minute youtube video that comical Ali would have been proud of? IIRC correctly wasn't Brian Little sold up the river & **** over by a video montage of Savo Miss a lot scoring sensational goals in a mickey mouse league only to then go on threatening the moon with his finishing once he arrived at VP. Savo actually made barn door Heskey look like Jimmy Greaves! I will be absolutely devestated if we appoint OSG. If this guy is really the dogs let him prove it first at somewhere like Wigan or West Brom and then, only then, should we show a firm interest. This is definitely not the time to be taking a risk on our great clubs future. We got it so wrong on the last 2 occasions it's unreal. Please PLEASE not this time again! And you wonder why we keep having to fork out millions in compensation for such crap, money that could & would have been better off invested in the team. Seriously, I would be less disappointed if we hired Steve Kean, Terry Connor or Kermit the Frog ahead of OSG. And YES I would much rather we should have kept McLeish absolutely anyday of the week over the unproven OSG. Before leaving this thread, just to let you know that I would only be happy with Brendan Rodgers or Paul Lambert of those managers who have been linked to the post. Both have proven that they can take on a club, build it up & move it forward. Getting Swansea & Norwich in the Premiership is like winning the Champions League with Villa. That my friends should be our ultimate ambition & not fawning ridiculously over some muppet whose heart lies at Old Trafford! OSG? NO NO NO!
  6. Well, seeing as everyone else appears to be celebrating 20 years of the Premier League, what about us? The famous, famous AVFC. Who in your considered opinion deserves nomination & inclusion in the highly coveted assembly of our best possible 11 players ever to grace our team during this 20 year period? You can choose whichever formation you like (please state it when posting), but because of the problem & extreme difficulty I had in choosing & accommodating central defenders I personally am plumping for 3 5 2 ( I do not see any possible way of missing out the 3 players that I have selected here for my best Villa team & unlike MON I won't be resorting to playing players out of position either, so moving " King Ollie" to right back is a definite, definite non starter! Sadly, I also reached the conclusion that none of our current playing staff came anywhere even close here in any of my thinking for their inclusion (a very, very sad indictment indeed) although I truly hope the promise & potential of our young players such as Gardner, Clark, Carruthers, Weimann et al is truly fulfilled & provides food for thought when nominations for 30 years plus of Premiership football are similarly being considered here or wherever so fit. What about our greatest player & performer in this time too? For me that really is/was a very very simple choice & I would be pretty amazed if their are too many dissenters (if any) to my nominated choice here! Next up too we have a range of managers who have served us over this particular period, arguably good, bad or indifferent dependent upon YOUR OWN point of view. Again, my choice here is simple & is purely based on 2 main factors, achievement & entertainment value. I would also like to state that MON came a very close 2nd here but as he didn't actually win anything I ruled him out. Finally, our greatest ever Premiership goal in 20 years? This really really was exceptionally difficult to decide. So, I've narrowed it down to top 3 & state them in nominated order. Finally, perhaps the mods would like to organise various polls on any or all of the following so that an independent result can be reached to everybodies democratic satisfaction: Best Team: So, playing 3 5 2 , I have gone for the following line up: David James Olof Mellberg (Paul McGrath (God) ) Martin Laursen Paul Merson Ian Taylor James Milner Andy Townsend Gareth Barry Dean Saunders John Carew* NB* a fit John Carew Best Manager: Ron Atkinson Best Player: Paul McGrath Best Goals: 1. Dalian Atkinson Wimbledon away December 1992 2. Gary Cahill Small Heath Alliance home April 2006 3. Dean Saunders Ipswich Town home Feb 1993 We all have our opinions, so, as per usual, it's over to you. Up The Villa!
  7. To all the brave hardy souls who turned up at a bitterly cold Villa Park last night to support our claret & blue heroes I would just like to say "WELL DONE" lads & lasses your loyalty & commitment are without question, especially on the back of such a depressing F A Cup exit at Arsenal. The fella who sits next to me travelled all the way up from Newton Abbot & had to cross all types of ice/frost/snow bound terrain for the privilege of watching Warnock's demonstration of how to head in the perfect own goal at The Holte End! ( Cheers for that Stephen! ) As for me, well I'm only a paltry 3 miles, 272 Yards & 7 inches from our sacred home , but the person that I would like to identify is the UK based fan who travelled the furthest yesterday to watch this match. Who ever you are, ( man, woman or child) step forward now & TAKE A BOW SON! TAKE A BOW!
  8. I have always maintained that Emile Heskey is one of the worst players ever to don our hallowed kit & have seen no evidence to change my mind. Quite simply he is a glorified parks player & that's putting it mildly.
  9. Exclusive news. There have only ever really been 2 candidates for this highly coveted post. David Moyes & Mark Hughes. Do not waste your money betting on any other possibility. I have it on good authority that Paul Merson is currently smashed out of his skull on holiday in Madiera & is telling anyone who will listen that it's MARK HUGHES......DONE DEAL & he has personally lumped on £5000. Confident or what? Anything else that is going on at the moment is purely cosmetic. eg 99% of the Villa fan base are going absolutely epoplectic at the moment & feel totally insulted by the Scottish Haggis's link to our great Club. Has no one stopped to think just how much of an insult that link actually is to Randy Lerner & the legendary General K? It's obvious to anyone with an ounce of sense that Randy would never consider this let alone let the damn thing happen. Anyone who thinks otherwise should be totally ashamed of themselves.
  10. Ideally we really need to win this game in order to put some daylight between us and the chasing dead beats currently in and around us. As obvious as that may seem it is absolutely vital that we DO NOT lose this game. Given both teams propensity to leak goals I'm going for a high scoring draw 3-3.
