  1. Please stop with the personal remarks. So you are allowed to post your opinions and I'm not? and you'll notice that as what you posted about ultrabooks was accurate and balanced, I didn't comment in a similar manner. Same as when you were posting comparative posts about Android devices in response to posts in Apple threads. No-one has said you can't say you like it. Am I allowed to say I don't like it? Marketing doesn't affect how the product looks and I've not said it does. I don't like it and said so. You said that you like it because Nokia make good looking phones. I don't think they do. It's my opinion. It would be nice if you could say which of Nokia's phones gave them that reputation in your eyes, but it sounded like you were repeating a soundbite to me. As I think I said pretty clear I don't have a hatred of Windows. Please stop repeating this lie. It's my job to recommend these things. My opinion is vastly different from the sites you've been reading, especially from a enterprise perspective. I have actually used windows 8. I have first hand experience. Do you only accept tech advice from sites who say what you want to read? I don't use Windows for my desktop as it is inferior in almost every way for MY usage. Who has said you aren't allowed to like Windows? Am I allowed an opinion, or is it only your opinion allowed? Not that it's relevant to the discussion, but you haven't said that all along, you've started saying it recently. So you are trying to justify a decision you've already made? That's also fine and explains quite a lot about the tone of your original post. Absolutely nothing. I look forward to reading about your experiences, rather the the experiences of others who have a vested interest. You have a problem with iphone fans, I have a problem with fanbois of any flavour. Especially the ones who don't realise.
  2. It would be a strong mitigating factor for Samsung though if Apple don't try to stop this.
  3. by Dave_Villa So, Lambert has shown that he isn’t afraid of making the big decisions, by dropping the previously un-droppable Shay Given for the match against Newcastle. But what exactly are the decisions that will be grinding the cogs in Lambert’s mind on the eve of our next fixture, and how will this affect the shape, personnel and fortunes of our team? Whilst I feel for Shay, I think I speak for the entire Villa Park faithful when I say that this is a breath of fresh air following the previous manager’s apparent reluctance to tinker with any more significant than the colour of the font on the match day programme. Having bolstered the troops during the transfer window, PL will be faced with a lot more of those decisions before the Swansea match. As managers regularly tell us, they love these kinds of problems; it’s an indication of squad depth and of competition for places, which can only be good for a football club. But what exactly are the decisions that will be grinding the cogs in Lambert’s mind on the eve of our next fixture? Joe Bennett – Left Back Of all the new signings, Bennett appears to be the most likely candidate for a starting berth against Swansea. Both at Norwich and during his short time at Villa Park PL has previously always played four at the back - this is unlikely to change, meaning that the entrance of Bennett into the fray wouldn’t affect the shape of the team, nor would he be replacing anyone who has made the position ‘their own’. Lichaj performed admirably against the red-hot Ben Arfa against Newcastle, but anyone can see that he is far happier on the right-hand side of the defence, so a straight swap for Bennett is an obvious option for PL. The troublesome left back position has been handed around like a Michael Owen sales brochure during pre-season, as well as the first few league games, so starting an experienced and specialist left back as we have in Bennett, seems like a no-brainer. Verdict – Likely to start at left-back against Swansea in place of Lichaj. Ashley Westwood – Centre Midfield PL has plenty of options with this guy in the squad. He seems like a similar sort of player to KEA; a deep-lying, energetic playmaker who enjoys the crunching sound of a good firm tackle. That’s not to say that he and KEA couldn’t take to the field at the same time, PL likes his full-backs to ‘bomb on’ which means they’ll often need cover from the midfield – having two defensive minded central midfielders could provide the assurances needed for the full backs to get forward more. However, this system really works best with a 4-5-1 formation, as with a 4-4-2 it puts the onus on the wide areas to make chances for the two strikers, and I’m not sure we have the wingers for that system do that at the moment. With a 4-5-1 we could have three central midfielders, two holding (KEA and Westwood) and one attacking (Ireland), giving us a central attacking threat to take pressure of the wingers to create chances. However, with the narrow 4-4-2 formation that PL deployed against Newcastle, Westwood could also take up the position on the right-hand side of the diamond, replacing Holman. Whilst I think that Holman’s work ethic is top-notch and that he deserves to keep his place after his performance against Newcastle, he’s not currently displaying the quality that we need from a player in such a pivotal position. Verdict – Will probably start on the bench against Swansea, becoming a first XI regular as the season progresses. Benteke/Agbonlahor Benteke is the signing that has really got Villa fans excited this summer. The will he, wont he, deadline day saga made his arrival all the more pleasing when the deal was finally completed. But will he go straight into the team? Fans were crying out for PL to sign a new striker this summer – big, quick and strong were the physical characteristics that were on most people’s shopping list. We now have all of those in Benteke. The welcome return of Gabby is also another thing for PL to think about. PL will be conscious of not rushing Gabby back after injury, but he’s bound to come off the bench and make an impact as he did against Newcaslte – he’s too good (and quick) not to. Benteke could fit straight into a 4-4-2 against Swansea, replacing Weimann and providing a target for Bent to work off, something I think we all agree was missing last season. Interestingly, this guy seems to fit the bill for being the stereotypical ‘lone frontman’ in a 4-5-1 formation – whilst I don’t see Bent being dropped anytime soon, if his form isn’t sparkling after ten games or so, he could find himself the latest victim of Lambert’s ruthless streak. Verdict – Will start against Swansea in place of Weimann, being replaced by Agbonlahor as the game wears on. Whichever players PL decides to run with, if the Newcastle game is anything to go by, we’ll see an attacking Villa team who pass the ball, retain possession and work harder than Joey Barton’s therapist. We know that there is undoubted quality in the team, so combined with the attributes that PL is slowly instilling in the team, there are many reasons to feel positive about the season ahead – Starting with Swansea next weekend. 4. So all these facts you are posting, the ones you've got second hand from Microsof't's and Nokia's marketing teams via your favourite websites. Websites who if they right bad things might not get any more samples. You think somehow that this isn't marketing spin? Really? You actually believe that? The only colour phones shouldn't be (in my opinion) is white. I'd quite like a yellow phone. As I said in my first reply "Personally I think the yellow phone looks cheap and tacky". It's this one phone I'm talking about. The one in the subject of the thread. Yet it's my comprehension called into question? Who has said you've done something wrong in starting a thread? Why are you trying to be the victim when I'm the only person who's been abused in this thread?
  5. Purely out of curiosity, what kind of modification?
  6. Thanks for explaining my opinion on Microsoft so clearly. Please don't presume to know me. I've already installed win8 and used it. Have you? I advocate the best tool for each job. Windows is the right tool occasionally. Usually, it's just the lowest common denominator. I don't hate Microsoft (although I probably did when they were actually behaving in an illegal manner). I don't like many of their products much, I think their business practices show an unhealthy level of arrogance and they have a bizarre internal structure which leads to different parts of the organisation having a completely different stance on any issue to other parts of the business. Their tools don't interoperate well. They also produce good products, like Visual Studio. I've worked with some of Microsoft's best engineers, who usually have the same frustration with their own software as I do. It's great that you are going to wait and see what it's like, but in that case why do you keep posting telling us how brilliant it will be before you've done that? Is there a single marketing claim for this phone that you don't believe?
  7. I'd prefer that the people seeking wealth are doing it openly and in public, as opposed to religions tithing the poor through their protection racket (which should be criminal). That religions spend their state benefits and tax breaks to surround themselves in opulence is frankly offensive, and certainly immoral. That they get additional sections in law just because they are religions is offensive. Faith schools are allowed to discriminate against their employees based on which fairy tale they believe. How can that be acceptable? And I'm well aware corporations also take advantage of tax breaks, but they are (quite rightly) criticised for doing so. Why do religions get such an easy ride?
  8. If I was reading that between you and another poster you would be strongly warned or even banned for the ad hominem attack. As I can't be objective I'll leave it for another moderator to deal with. It's great that you like the phone. I'm allowed to say that I don't. I'm also allowed to explain, by detailed response to your claims, why I have that opinion. I can't choose not to read what you write, I'm the publisher of the site. Besides it's only because you posted regurgitated marketing spiel that I reacted. I'd do the same if you (or anyone else) was doing the same about Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft, Oracle, Christianity or anything else (except possibly AVFC). It's got nothing to do with you personally. It's got nothing to do with your opinion on this phone. It's that you are paraphrasing material someone else has been paid to write as if it is facts. Can I suggest that if you react like this to being called on it that you either don't post it, or post it on one of those sites you mention. The sites given the toys to play with in expectation of favourable write-ups. Perhaps you missed my penultimate paragraph: This isn't about your liking of the phone or otherwise, it's about you repeating marketing bollocks as fact. I do particularly like the deep, deep irony in this sentence though:
  9. It staggers me how much of the marketing you just accept without a thought. Nokia haven't made a good looking phone in over a decade. Personally I think the yellow phone looks cheap and tacky. I'd worry about it being stolen until thieves realise that they can't actually fence them after the first few months. Nokia have never been the "kings of camera phones", they'd be 5th in my top 5 (behind Apple, Samsung, Motorola and SE in no particular order). Perhaps your professed lack of knowledge in this area is colouring your perception. Microsoft have a nasty habit of encrypting SD cards exclusively to a device when mounted with their mobile OSes, it's probably for the best that the Lumia doesn't have a slot. Besides, how will MS lock you into their app store if you can install ROMs from an SD card? "live tiles" are widgets. They are programs running in your launcher. If you wanted to program Android widgets to look like tiles, it would not be difficult. Try the "foneclay" launcher for an example of just what you can make a launcher do. Good luck changing the launcher on your Lumia when you tire of it. I really hope you enjoy your new phone, but please stop repeating marketing bollocks as if it's your opinion. It's like you are trying to justify your purchasing decision to yourself. Everyone else is happy to wait and see if for the first time ever MS fulfil their promises. It's never happened before. PS, how much will your anti-virus cost? I'd worry about that being delivered before the wireless charger.
  10. I don't think you are interfering, that is just another way to word it. Everyone is agnostic, other than liars or the mentally ill who claim that their god has spoken to them. Gnosticism is a certain knowledge that god exists, Agnosticism is not having that knowledge. "a-gnosticism" = "without-gnosticism". Agnosticism is often misused by people to mean weak atheism. That is an incorrect use of the word.
  11. Okay, let's start by defining the terms. An atheist is someone who is literally "without god" (a- from the Greek meaning without and "theist" from the Greek "theos" meaning "god"). Being an atheist does not mean that you know there is no god, it means that for you the existence of god(s) has not been proven. An agnostic a- from the Greek meaning "without" and "gnostic" meaning to have knowledge of something. An agnostic believes that it is not possible to know whether god(s) exist. I do not believe the existence of god is proven, therefore I'm an atheist. I do not believe the existence of god can ever be proven, therefore I'm agnostic. I am an agnostic atheist. I'm also secularist and humanist (with a small "h"). Anyone who believes that people should have the right to believe in fairy tales should be a secularist. In the long term it's the only thing that will allow people to continue to believe that Harry Potter is real.
  12. Fairy tales are stories made up by (usually) nameless people in the past. I think that describes religion quite well. You say "maybe if there is a god". That actually makes you at least a weak atheist as your world view already allows that it is possible there is no god. I am also agnostic (I'm also an atheist - the two aren't mutually exclusive and barely related). Do you actually want to learn about this or is people referring to poorly written fables as "fairy stories" really a show-stopper for you?
  13. Do you mean like Newton's third law? I wholly subscribe to that (except at quantum and cosmic scales).
  14. I don't know enough about Hindu beliefs to comment. I was hoping you'd have an opinion.
  15. Thanks, I checked the beeb and it wasn't there
  16. Please define what you mean by "karma", it may be very different to other people's definition.
  17. Your ratings and reactions please. Keep it respectful even if you know everyone else is wrong. 18. I have no idea what app you are talking about. Assuming you've not installed an alarm app, Tap applications, then clock, then alarm.
  19. Tbh I'd pretty much stopped using it. It was still advertising last season's season tickets at the end of the season
  20. I've just uninstalled the official AVFC app. WTF does the new update need to be able to make calls and/or send texts?
  21. Which app did you set it in?
  22. and they'll still work when you replace your xbox in the future.
