Is there no chance he could come to VP tomorrow to do his medical and sign? Then fly out with the rest of the U21's on Thursday?

Yep, we're on good terms with the U21 set up, I'm sure they won't mind.

:winkold:

:crylaugh:

Very true!

Hopefully there will be some movement now, im sure when the Barton and Parker deals are done we will hopefully complete the signing of NRC.

Breaking news on SSN:

'Man City have given permission to Newcastle to speak to Joey Barton.'

- His agent is up there to have talks.

Parker must be signing for West Ham then, which gives us NRC.

did you see the clip just after apparently sibierski signed for wigan over other clubs due to the transfer of titus bramble, and the fact they have big ambition.

i cant believe we missed out on titus, look hes attracting others to the club this is the big signing we needed that would have brought more players IMO. :crylaugh:

Headlines on the back of the meaning eveil are that we will be back in for Schneider (sic) as the deal with Valencia is now dead.

Don't get me wrong, Schneider is class and all that, but I just don't see this signing materialising, especially if we get NRC.

MON bought Petrov last year for 8mill, and he is an attacking midfield. I believe he will be a big big star for us next season, wants he gets a pre-season in him, and he is obviously more settled.

Is Petrov now going to be benched?! I don't think so. Can't see Schneider coming for that reason alone. Hope I'm wrong and they can play in the same team together, somehow.

Dutch midfielder back on Villa's radar

Jun 5 2007

By Bill Howell, Birmingham Mail

MARTIN O'Neill has been given fresh hope of resurrecting a deal for Ajax's exciting Dutch international midfielder Wesley Sneijder after the collapse of the player's move to Valencia.

The Spanish club have called off their interest after three failed bids in the region of 12 million euros (£8million).

The 22-year-old now seems intent on securing a transfer away from Amsterdam, which could open the door for Villa who have been trailing Sneijder for some time with O'Neill at the Dutch Cup Final.

O'Neill knows he will face stiff competition should Ajax decide to sell, with Barcelona mooted as an option in the Spanish press as a replacement for Deco.

"Officially, I have heard nothing about it yet, but the last words have yet to be spoken about this," Sneijder told the Dutch press about the collapse of his Valencia transfer. "The only way to break with Ajax is by kicking up a fuss. But that's not my style."

Sneijder has two years left to run on his contract and added: "This is the moment for a transfer.

"I have been playing in the first team at Ajax for five years. And surely Ajax don't want to let me walk out for free in two years' time?"

Sneijder, who turns 23 this weekend, came through the Ajax youth academy and enjoyed a meteoric rise having made his club debut in December 2002 and international bow four years ago against Portugal aged just 18.

He is also a free-kick specialist and finished the Eredivisie season with 18 league goals.

Ajax sporting director Martin Van Geel appears keen for him to stay but a firm bid from Villa now would inevitably force their hand.

"Wesley is 22 years old. I know of his ambitions, but he can easily fulfil these when he's 23, 24 or even 25 years old,'' said Van Geel.

"We are sorry for him, but we are not unhappy to have Wesley here another year.

"There will always be other options in the future, but for now, there are no tangible contacts with other clubs.

"Luckily, I know Wesley doesn't feel it's a punishment to stay a bit longer in Amsterdam, so in a way nothing is lost."

Valencia coach Sanchez Flores admitted he had been chasing Sneijder for two years.

"Any top team can use a player like Sneijder. We have been following him for two years now," he said.

I don't think he is going to sign before the U21 tournament, which is a massive shame. Where is the tournament anyway, and when do they fly out?

They have a game tonight, so I'll be tuning in to see him. Is there no chance he could come to VP tomorrow to do his medical and sign? Then fly out with the rest of the U21's on Thursday?

So many questions, I do apologise. :P

he wont sign for us before the u21s i know that for a fact because i watched him on sky sports saying that is the case and i am not into mind reading so i will take it from the horses mouth rather than the newspapers. It is the right thing to do on his part if he has a blinding euros he may get an offer from arsenal or spurs.

You don't think it's more likely that he got it from the same place that the people who posted it on here did?

Ah well, good to see some good journalism. Could still be true, but I'd rather want it from another source than VT being the "main source", so to speak. :P Good on you Bill, keep coming back to us, you're always welcome. Did you hear about the Ronaldinho-rumour, btw? He's said to be holding talks with MON as he's fed up with Barcelonas treatment and wants a serious challenge and believes that taking Villa to the CL and then win it is the perfect challenge for him. Check it up. I heard it from my nephews dogs cousins owners neighbours son who happens to live nowhere near VP.

I can, Petrov gets played mainly next to the right midfeilder in centre midfield, as does NRC i believe, with Barry slotting in next to the left midfielder in centre, the signing of Sneijder would benefit the team with him also being able to play in this position aswell as on the left of mid, flexability to the team, cover/backup/rotation etc and a typical MON signing.

Why do you compare Sneijder with Petrov and NRC? Sneijder would fit in perfectly with Barry, NRC and Petrov!

And if you wish to compare Sneijder with them he will boss every single one of them around because Sneijder is pure class. You are talking about a world class player in one of Europes finest national teams. Wesley Sneijder is gold if we get him!

I´ve seen him on many occasions and he surely has a value around £10-12m. If he was english any team would have to fork out over £20m for player like him...believe me.

People don't realise that teams around us have these decisions every week, we've just been starved of a squad for so long that we presume that 5midfielders mean ones either gunner be out the door or dropped every week.

Look at it this way, Newcastle this season had: Solano, Milner, N'Zogbia, Emre, Parker, Butt, Duff (and they all played alot)

Spurs: Jenas, Lennon, Murphy, Ghaly, Huddlestone, Zokora, Malbranque and Tainio (all played alot)

Pompey: Mendes, Davis, O'Neill, Lauren (from January - although he played alot at fullback), Krancjar, Taylor and Hughes (all played alot)

Two of them teams didn't have Europe this season....

I think that there was alot of times when players such as McCann were playing through the pain barrier, something which we wouldnt have to do if we had a bigger squad

So where does Young play? Our nearly 10million pound signing. He is abosloute class, and certainly won't be dropped.

I suppose Petrov, NRC and Schneider will suffer from rotation. We'll see. Unless we play 5 in the middle, which is an option.

Young - Petrov - NRC - Barry - Schneider

^^^ Very strong!
