  1. If he who doesnt exist now is to be understood then the buyer is the two Texan guys who were the ones originally linked a few weeks ago. If it is them then so be it, but I think it will not promise anything too different from what we have, perhaps with some initial investment to take us from being perennial relegation fodder to mid-table mediocrity. It is s shame but without massive money we will not have much more to aspire to.
  2. Are they? I looked and could only see they were worth around $1.6B
  3. If true then that is a big disappointment as they arent worth much more than Lerner and I think they might keep Lambert as manager :-(((
  4. My summary of Randy Lerner's time at Villa. Good Invested heavily in transfer fees and backed all the managers Bodymoor Heath refurb Improved faciltiies for fans and improved customer service Raised profile of club with marketing deals - Nike, Genting Gave us some pride bakc in the club after years of stagnation Infrastructire of club is far better than it ever was under Doug Bad Employing Paul Faulkner as CEO - completely out of his depth Non-communication with fans - never publicly addressed fans or stated ambiton, strategy Pulled the plug on MON investment at wrong time - should have done it earlier Should have paid the £7m compensation needed for David Moyes when he had the chance after MON left NEVER EVER should have appointed McLeish Never ever listen to purple nose Ferguson! Players recruited - god we have bought soem shite! Indifferent Selling Young, Milner and Downing - all wanted to leave but were not replaced properly - again down to bad management choices Cutting the Wage Bill too quickly Macron Shirt Deal - the kit is shit IMO Still don;t know what his ambitions are and if he is here for the long haul - uncertainty I think he will back Lambert in January and if we dont spend properly I think it will be down to an arrogant, complacent Manager rather than Lerner not giving him the funds needed.
  5. Not sure it says anything but i know Randy was not at the game on Saturday. Now I would have expected for Lambert's first home game fo r the owener to turn up but there you go. One thing I will say baout Randy is that he is in danger of repeatign the mistakes made by Ellis in the years after we won the European Cup. It started with shedding of the high earning experienced playrs who had won us all our trophies, followed by an over empahsis on youth players who ended up being not upto the task and low and behold we went down. I hope we aren't in a similar cycle.
  6. With the squad we have I am very, very worried. I feel PL is a good guy but no miracle worker and despite the feel good factor, we still look likely to let in loads at the back and very weak squadwise that a couple of key injuries will kill us. 17th is my prediction unless we change our attitude and buy the 3 experienced players needed to shore up the squad. 4th round in both cups.
  7. Great car but insurance plus wear an tear and you won't get much change out of £5k per year and that's before you put fuel inside!
  8. When I saw his first post about funding my first thought was QIA. Obviously could be well wide of the mark but... Can't see it happening. Would Randy being Jewish make it unlikely that business would be done with Muslims?
  9. To be honest fuse these were my gripes, but as usual we are stuck with it so we will have to back him. I really thought we would have been smart enough to get a manager with some vibe to him who could bring that feel good factor back and have some creativity with transfers. We've gone the safe and boring route as usual, as I suspect this manager will. :? Your both what I hate about some Villa fans, never happy, never satisfied, part of the poisonous band of miserable gits that linger around Villa Park. Instantly on the clubs back. It makes no difference that football people, with knowledge and experience, rate him as one of the best young managers around. No, lets be upset at the fact he doesn't tell jokes at his press conferences, and he's not from Brazil and called Paulinio Lamberto. Everyones has a right to an opinion, but there's a bunch at Villa that just need to do one. Oh, I'm sorry. So because I am not cartwheeling down the road at the appt of Lambert as I wanted us to be more ambitious and progressive and this is different to your opinion, I should do one? Why don't you stop being such a self righteous clearing in the woods and do one yourself? I think realistically Lambert is as 'progressive' as we should be. Going completely left-field is more likely to end in disaster than it would do in success - and that's not to say Lambert isn't a bit of a coup in itself after our last season! I really don't understand the apparent progressive and more importantly realistically good options there were out there? Personally I'd have preferred Martinez. I will get behind Lambert and tbh it says more about the board in picking him that they have definitely chosen to listen to the fans opinions on this, which I accept is almost universally positive.

  12. Says an awful lot about how bad things have got at Villa that so many are cumming in their pants at news we are appointing a manager who has one year top flight experience, is hardly likely to attract players other than Grant bloody Holt and importantly for me shows how unambitious and lacking in vision our board are. We needed revolution, not another bloody dour, miserable, media unfriendly appt.
  13. Nail on head. If we appoint Lambert expect mid table mediocrity at best watching long ball football
  14. Whilst all roads point to Martinez I have a feeling it might not be him. This is a Villa manager search and we have never gone for the obvious choice yet...
  15. Moyes now as short as 14/1......power of villatalk?
  16. Highlights how big we could be with the right manager and investment in good players to complement our academy.
  17. I'd rate Poyet as bottom of all the young managers. What has he achieved? If he was any good he would have at least made the playoffs as he had plenty of financial support. Also he was shite when involved at Leeds.
  18. I would have Gregory back in a heart beat. HE was fantastic for us and is 100% a Villa fan. He would kick the shot heads like Warnock, Collins and Hutton as far down the Lichfiled Rd as he could!
  19. I don;t want Lambert. A poor man's Martin O'Neill who will spend £9m ona 31 yr old Gran Holt. OGS is the stand out candidate for me and I would rather we have him or Brendan Rodgers who has far more experience with workign with young players and plays proper football unlike the kick and rush tactics of MON's lovechild. Plus he is a dour miserable bastard and I'd much rather we have someone who improves our public perception both on and off the field.
  20. OGS said he wouldn't travel on Randy's plane again but would make his own way here.
  21. Sums it up [perfectly for me. I don;t want Lambert as in my opinion he is another MON and we would end up spending £9m on Grant Holt. I'd rather an attack minded fresh approach to things and OGS will bring this I have no doubt.
  22. I stand to win £1130 if he is our new manager. This will pay for my season ticket and a new iPAD. He is now my favoured candidate. So I no longer want Pep or Moyes!
  23. Firstly I don't buy into this Randy Lerner isn't a businessman bollocks. As others have stated he has a very good pedigree and knows far more about business than anyone posting on here I would suggest. As far as Villa are concerned I think he has had some unbelievable bad luck. He arrives on the scene closely followed by the Arabs at City who completely change the footballing landscape that not only sees them propelled into the toip 4 but has forced Liverpool to sell up and spend over £100m on decent but hardly spectacular players and still have no sign of a new stadium. As well as forcing Abramovich to ditch his make Chelsea sustainable plan and spend over £80m on two players who can't get in the team. So Lerner is not on his own in having the best laid plans thrown out of the window. As for his managment choices well he made a mistake in Houllier in as much as his illness was almost guaranteed to return and it cost Lerner a fortune because of it. As for MON he has admitted that he got over excited and let his love of Villa allow MON to spend out of control. He is now trying to put that right. Onto McLeish. Now here is where I disagree with most people. I actually don't think McLeish is as bad as people make out he is. I think he has an incredibly strong character to have taken the job on and I think he is just the type we need to control the personalities we have and the youngsters coming through. I would go as far as saying that he is doing Lerner's dirty work very well. I sincerely hope he is here in 18 months time as I think he will have done what is needed financially, which is to ride out the storm of no investment whilst we await getting the wage bill back down to manageable levels, and then be given a reasonable budget to go and try and compete for the top 6. I might be wrong but I think that in 18 months we will see a return to Lerner investing decent sums in the playing squad and I would not be surprised if McLesih wins us a trophy, given time.
