Amo69
Tell you what I find interesting the amount of Villa fans that spent all last season watching Pompey My main source is MOtD and going by that Matt Taylor is world class :winkold:
timharding
Just because we dont have a set budget does not mean that paying 8m for taylor would be acceptable. Taylor would be a squad player, no more. 8m should get a player that is good enough to go straight into the midfield. Agree with richard that he is a typical MON signing though. Just cant see what he would bring in that I dont think for a second he is better than anything we already have.
BOF Posted May 25, 2007 Moderator Share Posted May 25, 2007 Tell you what I find interesting the amount of Villa fans that spent all last season watching Pompey I'd like to think most fans watch most Premiership teams during the season. Or am I being idealistic
timharding
Aside from shooting, what can he actually do? I've never been that impressed with him really, when we played them at VP this season he was largely annonymous. When a player is made captain of any premiership team he is not an average player. (I'm sure il be corrected now with examples). He's not captain.

I haven't seen enough of the lad to fully judge but i do trust MON when it comes to bringing players in. If barry is to play centre mid next season we need a proper left sided player, i don't think berger has a whole season in him and i'm not sure it's maloneys best position so IMO taylor would be an improvement on what we already have. He doesnt do anything. If you judge a good player by how often they appear on MOTD or in the Sun then Matty Taylor is awesome as his spectacular goals get him noticed in highlights or match reports. I live in Pompey and they'll be no uproar should he be allowed to leave. Remember tomm hizt? Decent player but everytime he scored a screamer it hid some very average performances. lazarus_chin
I don't mind us getting Taylor if that's what MON wants. It's just that Taylor isn't the sort of player that comes to mind when you imagine "top class signing".However,I haven't seen him play often so I'm don't really know how good he is.It's obvious Bellamy will be a villa player by next season as the stories just won't go away.Bellamy is quality. He has pace, can score loads and would a great partner for carew. timharding
What about this Quaresma chap in Portugal i've heard he's available He really struggled in spain so I dont know what to make of him. He was at Barca at the same time as rochemback and look how well he's done at boro.
remotevillan
Yeah LM I think I'd be more flabbergasted than annoyed. I just don't think MON would rate him at £8m either - but if he does, then I'm sure I'll get over it They are not going to pay 8 million for Taylor, not now, not even in August. The only reason they paid so much for Young was (a) he was young and ( they were desperate and suffering squad decimation and needed a signal of intent to bolster the club. And anyway, Ashley Young could develop into that price range or beyond. Taylor, I would rate between 5-6 million. He is good and his versatility would be a great asset. We need a squad. And it would be nice to feature more on the Goals of the month competition :winkold:

First Simão, then Quaresma suffered by comparison.
BOF Posted May 25, 2007 Moderator Share Posted May 25, 2007 Also, the Quaresma that played for Barca was still young and inexperienced. Not to mention the pressure of actually playing in a cauldron like that at that age. I'm sure if he was to go back now, he'd make a much better fist of it.
