All this fuss about a supposed casino - it's hypocritical. So what if Randy does want to build a casino (assuming he gets permission/govt approval or whatever) - well the Birmingham Mail were all in favour of a casino for their little darling Blooz weren't they - now, all of a sudden, a vague rumour of one being built by Villa and it's complete outrage. Total hypocrisy. (Even if true -which is doubtful)

As I've noted on the front page, the NFL take a dim view of gambling (despite the fact that bookmakers bought the Giants and Steelers, and the descendants of said bookmakers own those franchises to this day, to say nothing of how gambling to this day provides one of the major sources of interest [and thus, indirectly, revenue] for the League). There are rules that essentially prohibit any NFL owner from being involved in the operation of a gambling enterprise. I would strongly suspect that it will require major gymnastics for AVFC (especially if it's a private entity, and Lerner definitely seems to want to take it private!) to open a casino, while Lerner is able to retain ownership of the Browns. Given that Lerner is a life-long Browns fan (and to a greater degree than it appears a certain "Life-long Villa fan" is what he claims to be...), I strongly suspect that if things developed to the point where the only way to make money at Villa is through a casino, he will sell Villa to a casino operator. I strongly doubt that such a situation will come to pass, especially within any sort of timeframe over which anybody may have reasonable expectations, but the point is that a casino is almost certainly a non-starter during the Lerner regime at Villa Park.

Agreed. Well reasoned.

I think Lerner is interested in Villa precisely because there's virtually no ceiling on what he can achieve. The NFL is mediocre by design - it is impossible to build a dynasty. At Villa, if he proves to be a better owner he will get more success. He can make money in Cleveland owning the Browns until the day he dies with virtually no effort. I think he sees Villa as a challenge. My two cents.

Didnt the "super casino" bid go away from the midlands anyway ???

No offence people but has no one thought that if he did want to build a casino , he could just go down the road and buy Star Bloody City which is by the way up for sale ???????????

Hi everyone,

I contacted the editor at the Post last night and told him that i though Ged Scott was an appalling journo whose article about 'Lerner disquiet' was one of the worst written and unfactually based article i had seen. He said that he wants to hear from all Villa fans who were angry with this article and have the Pro-Lerner view and said that we should mail the following email address with our thoughts as they will run the article over the weekend!!!

Post_sport@mrn.co.uk

Barry Kinghorns email doesn't seem to be working!

And i was on Radio WM last night :D and spoke to Malcolm Boyden and told what a load of chuff that Tony Butler was talking .......and that his sources were not only duff but blatantly wrong..........and Malc agreed with me.......

Lerner with O'Neill is the dream ticket!!

Randy is the man!!

This is the email i have sent to the post this morning:

:D:D

Ged Scott's article in the Birmingham Post on 16 August was completely inaccurate and does not in any way portray a true representation of views from the Villa fans. Villa fans want Lerner to take over and can't wait for him to do so! Ged's extremely poor article was based on a minority view of one from a fanzine who no one has EVER heard of (!!). Villa fans are ecstatic at the thought of Randy coming in. Martin O'Neill and Randy will form a great team. Randy has been in contact with all Villa fan groups to canvass their opinions and thoughts! He wants to build a museum to commemorate the achievements of the Villa side who won the title and European Cup. He is in tune with what the fans want and is ready to invest money into the infrastructure, training ground, new players, commercial marketing and much more. Randy Lerner wants success and with Martin O'Neill Villa will get it in time. There will be no casino as people have suggested and his board have great financial and marketing acumen, something Villa have been crying out for ages! I would suggest that Ged Scott stick to the cricket stories because his inaccurate and misleading stories have no basis in fact! Randy is the man!

I have just emailed this:

Dear Sir,

In response to your article regarding disquiet at Lerner takeover at Aston Villa I would like to offer my own viewpoint.

Randy Lerner's takeover of Aston Villa is the best thing that has happened to this club since 1982. Mr Lerner is a gentleman who has approached the takeover with courtesy and professionalism - unlike certain other consortiums that seem more interested in sniping at each other. The following short list gives my reasons for supporting Mr Lerner:

1) Prior to making an offer, Mr Lerner approached various Villa fans groups (ones that you have actually heard of!) such as VFC, Supporters Trust, etc. and consulted them on their views on the club. No other consortium has embraced the fans in this way.

2) Lerner's plan for Villa is not to simply pump in cash but to revitalise the club at all levels to allow it to make its own money. This will undo years of neglect and will raise the profile of the club and of Midlands football as a whole.

3) Lerner plans to create a museum of sorts to celebrate Villa's illustrious past and to honour those that have made the club great in the past. The outgoing board never saw fit to do this as Villa's best achievements were made without them!

4) Mr Lerner has the right background to run a football club. His experiences of running the Cleveland Browns are valuable and applicable (despite being a different sport) - there are many parallels between English football clubs and American football clubs.

5) The offer made by Reform Aquisitions is funded by Mr Lerner's own cash, not from a loan, which means the club starts a new era with no debt weighing it down (unlike Manchester United and Chelsea).

6) Mr Lerner has guaranteed that there will be no selling of Villa Park or of merging with Birmingham City or West Brom - which is just ridiculous anyway.

7) Mr Lerner also has an excellent relationship with our new manager, Martin O'Neil. The two of them really are "Dream Ticket" for Aston Villa - with them both at the helm I would expect Villa to be back in the top 5 regularly within 5 years, if not sooner.

8) Mr Lerner has pledged to improve the facilities at the training ground, academy and Villa Park itself.

9) Finally, there will be significant investment in the playing squad.

I plead with you to communicate these points to the readers of your newspaper - support Mr Lerner's takeover of Aston Villa, it is the start of a new golden age.

What's happening with all the shares the Trust have? Anyone know?

Judging from the PR I would say they plan to hold onto them in case there's a better offer

Is that what the members of this democratic organisation would want? I know, off topic, just gobsmacked.

Just so that everyone is clear, the Offer is subject to Lerner obtaining acceptances for at least 90% of the shares, or such lower figure as he may decide. Otherwise he is not obliged to acquire from Ellis & Gang. However, in my view, unless a much stronger offer comes along, this is a done deal.

Here it is Moonstone is right - he can get out unless he get the 90% - but he can choose to stay - it is all up to him.

Conditions of the Offer

The Offer will be subject to the following conditions:

(a) valid acceptances being received (and not, where permitted,

withdrawn) by not later than 1.00 p.m. (London time) on the first closing date of the Offer (or such later time(s) and/or date(s) as RAL may, subject to the rules of the Code or with the consent of the Panel, decide) in respect of not less than 90 per cent. (or such lower percentage as RAL may decide) in nominal value of the Aston Villa Shares to which the Offer relates and not less than 90 per cent. (or such lesser percentage as RAL may decide) of the voting rights carried by the Aston Villa Shares to which the Offer relates, provided that this condition will not be satisfied unless RAL (together with its wholly owned subsidiaries) shall have acquired or agreed to acquire (whether pursuant to the Offer or otherwise) directly or indirectly Aston Villa Shares carrying in aggregate more than 50 per cent. of the voting rights then normally exercisable at general meetings of Aston Villa, including for this purpose (except to the extent otherwise agreed by the Panel) any such voting rights attaching to Aston Villa Shares that are unconditionally allotted or issued before the Offer becomes or is declared unconditional as to acceptances, whether pursuant to the exercise of any outstanding subscription or conversion rights or otherwise.

David there is also a stipulation in there that he wants to get to 90 but if he gets to at least 50 then thats OK.

(underlined)

By next Wednesday he will have at least 58.

Randy fan 18:03:44 17 August 2006

Story from Brown's fan - Every day, at the end of the day a man driving a nice but not extrtavegant black car would call out to him by name, ask how his family was doing, and basically have a short, polite little conversation at the end of every night. It came about that eventually he looked forward to these meetings with the driver of this car. The driver rarely had a tie on, his shirt usually a little rumpled with the top button open. Just some guy on the lower rungs on his way back home from work after a long day. One day the guardsman fell ill. He had some very bad back pain. He missed a couple days of work. Being on such a small salary he did not have the money to go to all the specialists and such needed to correct the problem. But to his suprise the driver he had been talking to all this time was Randy Lerner.....Randy made sure he got the medical attention he needed. And sent things to his family while he was recovering.

Richard I don't read it that way - I think it is up to him to choose - but we will soon find out.

Yes choice. The condition is not on 90%. That is if he doesn't get 90% he will pull out. He will choose!

If he gets to 50% (which he already has) then it's upto him.

ANyway reading too much into this as Randy owns the club anyway. It's all over
