Not only that, but next season they will be looking to break that top 7 again so they are about as rival a club as its possible to get. Their London base makes them an attractive proposition for players and their stadium is 50% bigger than ours. (Not in the same class of course) It's a no brainer that it'd be far better for us for West Ham to go down than for us to get a measly 3m quid but they won't be going anywhere. Combination of few injuries, a team of mostly average players in the form of their lives supplemented by 3-4 good to very good players, a fair bit of luck and a counter attacking style that played to their strength. Now the injuries have started, teams have figured them out and the average players have reverted to type. Although sadly I don't think they're relegation bad so are now underachieving. Probably should be about 12-14th. RE: bogey teams, that's a load of superstitious nonsense. There might be differences in play style that mean we don't match up well but a competent manager will recognise that and reduce or eliminate it. I work with a lot of ex Man United players and a couple of them have said the same thing when I asked how they always beat us at Villa Park. They said Fergies team talk was just "we never lose here".
