Mjvilla Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Top work BOF. Thank you. Reading through the names, would be nice to see perhaps 3/4 break through into first team action more regularly now. I also note Henry Cowans on the list, I thought he had left? 1

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted August 14, 2017 Moderator Popular Post Posted August 14, 2017 I went tonight. It was entertaining, there was some good football and plenty to enjoy. They didn't get a turnstile open until 18:30 but there were still 390 people for a game that the Villa Official website treated like a state secret. I thought we deserved the win for our team play; Albion have some very good individuals but we looked well drilled and well motivated under Mark Delaney, who looks fit as a fiddle and rather annoyingly doesn't have a single grey hair. Ratings: Sarkic (7) - he made some terrific stops and one decent one from their penalty and looked calm throughout, doesn't quite dominate the box, but he takes risks in order to close people down and looks very decent at this level. Clark (6) - occasionally done for pace by the very rapid Kyle Edwards, but he stuck at it, showed good positional sense and defended manfully. He's got a heck of a tan. Borg (6) - looks like he's not sure if he's absolutely brilliant or not very good - if he decides he's brilliant, he might be. Dodgy hair. Suliman (7) - he's got such an easy style for a centre back, he's calm, he looks unruffled, he's good on the ball, he sees things early - he's got all the tools he needs to be a brilliant under 23 defender. To become a brilliant defender full stop, he's going to need to eat and eat and eat and spend most of his days in the weight room - if he was bigger he'd be in the first team squad. It's rare you see a player whose future depends so much on whether he can fill out. Twiglet legs. Toner (6) - meat and potatoes, muck and bullets, that sort of phrase - Beckenbauer he ain't, but he'd tackle next doors Audi if it tried to get by him. Lyden (6) - he's mysterious to me Jordan Lyden, I've seen him a number of times now and he can look so classy, like he belongs at a higher level - but then he disappears for twenty minutes - he's got lots of good things going for him, but I'd like to see him dominate games more, I'd like to see him use his engine to get about the field and change games. It all looks a bit easy occasionally. He takes a very decent penalty mind. O'Hare (8) - he's so full of it right now he farts confidence. He played with his head up, saw everything and everyone and on a few occasions showed really neat footwork in dribbling though the Albion back line. Came off looking knackered, but that's more than excusable with the week or two he's had. Doyle-Hayes (6) - I would have gone with largely anonymous, until he curled an absolute peach into the top corner from twenty yards in the last minute. In fairness to him in the ninety minutes before that he'd grafted away, but hadn't had much luck. He'll have days that are both better and worse than this one. McKirdy (6) - always looking to get involved in everything, bright, inventive, but not quite clicking perfectly - if you haven't seen him, imagine O'Hare has a brother a year younger who really wants to be him. Blackett-Taylor (6) - I love a slightly awkward winger and Blackett-Taylor fits the bill perfectly - occasionally looks like he''s got three legs and isn't sure which way he's facing, then suddenly he's dropped a shoulder and gone past three defenders. Bamboozled his man to win our penalty and was always keen to have the ball. I'm not sure he had a great game, but I am sure I like him. I look forward to seeing him again. Davis (9) - the star of the show for me - this was a perfect display of good old fashioned centre forward values - what he did all game was battle for the ball, win it, hold it up and bring people into play - he was being pulled and pushed and kicked and wrestled (and getting in his fair share of pulling and pushing and wrestling) but he just kept on winning it, holding it and bringing people into play. He was having balls fired at him from everywhere and everything seemed to stick. When he got the chance he showed he could play a bit too and thoroughly deserved his goal which was a decent header over the keeper into the corner. He must be knackered, he worked himself into the gourd for the team. It's difficult to carry this directly into first team football where defenders are stronger and quicker, but he was impressive - and a little patience while he grows stronger might well be rewarded in a season or two. Of the subs, Cox looked a little lightweight, Abdo tried a few things but couldn't quite find the one that would come off and Clarke only came on late when things were being closed out. It finished eleven against ten after an Albion injury and we saw it out well - it was a good team performance where we always threatened from very organised set pieces, dealt with some very good attacking threats competently and professionally saw the game out. Can Delaney take first team training this week please? 7 1
