  1. I would genuinely take Villa beating Lille and all other English teams losing this week. We take it one game at a time and we aim for 4th and UECL win
  2. So funny all this stressing on the coefficients and 5th place. Come on lads just chill out and try to enjoy Villa being so good this year. UCL isn’t worth this stress surely?
  3. Could work the other way, suddenly it’s a golden opportunity for them which brings its own pressure
  4. This 2-0’lapse in concentration is like an infectious disease. It’s taken hold of the squad
  5. If we miss out on 4th and we miss out on 5th being UCL then so be it. I’m not going to throw my toys out the pram. Regroup and win the Europa League next year. And if a few of our players don’t want to stay next season, so be it. We’ll get good fees for them and I back Unai to replace. Once you start viewing this through a broader lens I guarantee you’ll enjoy it more. I’m done with the granular PPG projections and hand wringing on every game and point…it’s neurotic and unenjoyable. Get your heads up, chest out, support the lads through the ups and downs and live in hope for a piece of glory. If anyone’s delivering it it’s Unai
  6. I’ve really come round to just wanting the lads to win something. I’m not that bothered about just qualifying for UCL tbh. I keep looking at Newcastle season or even Spurs over the last ten years. I don’t follow Villa for the business/commercial side. I’m a romantic. I just want to experience a little piece of glory. I was eight years old watching the 96 Coca-Cola cup final on TV and it was the best day of my life. The childhood fan in me wants to feel that again and my kids now to feel that.
  7. With the added incentive of trying to win the UECL trophy! If we win the UECL trophy this year it’ll be massive. Massive. You saw the scenes at VP last year to just qualify for the competition. That’s how much it means
  8. I just want to sound a word of caution re 5th place being UCL…Arsenal and City both being knocked out is absolutely feasible.
  9. These have been updated. Man U now 50/1, Newcastle 150/1 and Chelsea 300/1…
  10. Chelsea are now priced shorter odds for top 4 at 36/1 than Man U 38/1 (United we’re 33/1 before the weekend)
  11. The standards people hold the squad to are insane We were literally relegation candidates at one point last season and are now guaranteed 6th with 6 games to go, fighting for 4th and in the 1/4s of out first European campaign in over a decade. All whilst suffering multiple key injuries. People really need to chill out
  12. These opta probabilities can switch around very quickly, I wouldn’t get too secure about it tbh. It comes down to whether City and Arsenal progress
  13. I’m not so sure…what’s it done for Newcastle? Tonali? We’re not going to suddenly go out and buy Rodri, KDB etc because we sneak into the UCL for one year. Also FFP restrictions mean this is impossible
  14. I’m suddenly feeling pretty chill about the ‘race for Champions League’. I read that Spurs forum post saying they’re not that interested in UCL anymore and it made me think. People get sucked into this idea that if we make the UCL next season it will change the future of the club forever. I’m not so sure. I think the next few years are about enjoying the Unai ride, aiming to get consistently better each year and trying to compete for trophies. Look at Newcastle this year…the big prize of the UCL turned into ash in their mouths. Just enjoy the journey and dream of a trophy…be it UECL this year, domestic or Europa next year or whatever
  15. I think he has a very good shout for the Euros now. Was a very tidy, confident performance against top international opposition. A ball playing RCB as cover for Stones and effective cover for Walker at RB. Well done Ezri
  16. This thread…I can’t handle the neurosis. I’m done, goodnight
  17. We’re away at Ajax and they haven’t had a shot on target
  18. Feel like people are a bit naive. It’s easy to say sat on the sofa, ‘March into the Johan Cruyff stadium against the most storied side in Dutch history and take it to them in front of 60000’
  19. The negativity on here is wild. Try and enjoy it
  20. PL stats since he arrived: 13 goals, 13 assists. For context Grealish is 11g/11a in the same period (whilst playing for a team on top of everyone) With the trajectory he’s on I’m very happy where we are. Not to go off topic but Buendia’s bagged 9g/8a without playing this season and Ings 13g/6a and we recouped £10m I know just looking at g/an output is reductive but if someone offered you £30m and 40 extra g/an over three years you’d say it was a pretty good deal.
  21. It just hit me today. It’s absolutely astonishing the turnaround under this man. You forget. What he’s achieving almost defies belief from where we were. Heading into March top 4 and genuine CL place contenders whilst still in UECL and having a huge stack of injuries…at the start of the season pundits were picking us for 7th at best
  22. When he was cutting loose last year on the celebrations I did think he’ll probably be phased out this season. Guardiola is a serial winner. He wouldn’t have rated it.
  23. Heading into the team of the season as it stands. Vicario found out, can’t catch high ball into the box/command his area. Alison dropping clangers. Wouldn’t swap Emi for anyone
  24. Makes perfect sense to me. People on here expect a team of robots that just turn up and deliver in any circumstance. They were all on a beach in Dubai four days ago, Chelsea were match fit and full of confidence.
