People said the same last season, we won't replace Barry etc. And I was one of them. And Milner stepped up and replaced him, and we finished with more points on the table and had better runs in the league. Now, if MON was competent enough to do that I have faith in him to replace Milner. Anyone who suggests otherwise is clutching at straws imo. Just learn the lessons from last season.

Not quite, we buy players with the potential to be that good. Just like we bought Milner who had the potential to be as good as he is now. Everyone knew about Milner, yet we still got him. If we go out and buy 2-3 players who will be better than Milner 3 years down the line then we've done well.

I've never been convinced with Milner as a central midfielder, he's an excellent attacking midfielder no doubt, he just doesn't have the discipline and awareness of Petrov or in this case N'Zonzi. He'll never be the player that sits back and dictates play, that's not because he can't it's simply because it isn't in his nature. If Milner was to leg it, with Ireland and N'Zonzi (maybe even Bentley on the wing) coming in with the money we get, then we'd be in a better position IMO. There was a good blog on F365 about Fabregas to Barcelona yesterday, and it made reference to Zidane at Juventus. When Real came calling with the big $$$, Juve didn't tell them to bug off. They took that money and went and strengthened their team as a whole. And then from winning naff all for 3 years they (with the new players Buffon, Thuram and Nedved) went on to win two titles in a row and reached a champions league final. It can work out for the best is all I'm trying to say.

Milner won't go to Citeh. They want him because he is versatile, which means he'll probably be played out on the wing most of the time. Whereas he's guranteed to play in his favoured position week in week out with us. And under SAF he would replace Scholes in centre midfield.

If that happened, Milner would push for the move to United and we'd take the 25.

Think you are all being a bit silly. His contract will be negotiated after the WC, that was always the case. He won't want to seem desperate to stay in order to play his cards right and get a better deal for himself. It's down to O'Neill to sell him or not, and if he thinks he can take £30m and improve the team as a whole then **** it, we'll just have to live with it. Spurs do this all the time, there is a difference between selling a player for a profit and being a feeder club.

Going on OBE's theory, you could argue that it did. All this business of waiting untill after the WC to sort his contract out (which I don't quite understand) leaves him open to bids from other teams. You could see then that Villa could make the bid public in order to let the big boys know what the situation is. If Milner leaves this summer, it won't be to Citeh, it'll be to Chelsea or United.

Milner is wise enough to know that bandwagon isn't worth jumping on. I expect him to stay then move to one of the big boys in the future.

apparently the bids been lodged for a few days. Which suggests to me either (if your a citeh fan) Lerner and MON are thinking about negotiations and how they will approach it. or if your a Villa fan they are waiting for the england players to return so they can talk to milner about his contract negotiations, which will obviously now pushed forward as Capello doesn't want any of this shit during the WC. Just have to wait and see I guess, but my gut feeling is James will rather be at a stable club until another bigger stable club comes along, rather than a circus that'll no doubt be challenging for titles but with a **** load of instability.
