  1. Venglos and Houllier - only non-Brit/Irish people to ever manage Villa. Both last a season, both nearly get us relegated. For whatever reason foreign managers don't work down Villa Park. I'm guessing it'll be Moyes or Hughes.
  2. yeah Fellaini was 18 million wasn't he? Good player mind but Moyes has spent some cash.
  3. That is the worst line ever. "lerner is aware of the frenchman's heart problems". not exactly a big secret is it.
  4. Ancelotti, Moyes, Hughes, and Jol. I'll be happy with any of those.
  5. Please don't let Steve McClaren be the next manager of Aston Villa.
  6. Next year will be make or break for Delfouneso. If he is really going to make it he has to do it soon.
  7. I'd take Houllier over Coyle. I hope he gets better and is here next year.
  8. Yeah those last 2 matches are not ideal. Both Arsenal and Liverpool could have something to play for still so we have to have ourselves safe before then. I fancy we can get a draw at Everton and we have to beat Newcastle. Really we should be winning all those games up to the Arsenal match but we obviously won't.
  9. like moyes alot but have a feeling he'd be no different than O'Neill. I doubt Coyle would come to us to be honest. Of all the British based managers I might take a chance on Paul Lambert. Rather get Jol though.
  10. really??? Really. I just don't see any of those people as a step forward. Appoint them and we might avoid relegation now but the best we can ever hope for with them is lower mid-table. I really think we have to stay with a foreign manager to really revolutionise our club like Wenger or Mourinho have done and lets be fair Houllier did for Liverpool. Jol, Van Gaal someone in that mold is what we want but we'd obviously need to wait for the end of the season for that if GH is shown the door.
  11. The funniest part about that article is that at the end it gives Houllier shit for allowing Sidwell to join and STRENGHTEN a relegation rival. How is Sidwell going to make Wolves better? he is shit. Could be a master stroke.
  12. can i change my vote? I was steaming yesterday and voted NO but obviously that's an over-reaction. More time needed, there is a bigger picture to this. I'll take 10-14th place this year if that changes being made to the side have a direction and leads to sustained success in the next few years. A couple of years ago Spurs were rock bottom of the league and look at them now.
  13. Yeah that was great. He got pummeled with snowballs. Sheffield Utd are not as good as they were in 2006 and we should have a lot of players back by then so I don't see this match being too much of a problem.
  14. I dont understand this talk of Warnock being unhappy. He would have been very young when Houllier was a Liverpool and just breaking into the first team squad so the loan to Coventry would have made sense to get him experience. Pretty sure it was Benitez that would have upset him. Friedel should be old enough and professional enough to get on with things so no worries there. As for Carew, as much as i like him it wouldn't be the end of the world if he were to move on. He has done a job for us but we probably need someone better now anyway.
  15. Got to say I am actually looking forward to Houllier taking over but I really hope he is THE manager with Mcdonald and staunton as assistants and not picking the team. He is given a lot of shit for his time at Liverpool but there was a point around when they won that treble that they genuinely looked most likely to catch man utd. If he can keep us top 6 and win a cup like he did at Liverpool while bringing through the youngsters and introducing some decent continental talent then that will do me for now.
  16. Hyppia, Hamman, Smicer, Barmby, Heskey and McAllister were very good signings at the time. Cisse might have been good had he not broke his leg and then fallen out with Benitez. Obviously Cheyrou was shit and Diouf was not a success but I'm sure if you compare this list with players who we have signed during this same period then there would be a whole lot more rubbish that signed for Villa.
  17. I think it will be someone from abroad too. Klinsmann or Koeman with McDonald rewarded with asst manager or first team coach position. All the talk in the US recently was that Klinsmann was in talks to take over as USA manager but now Bradley has extended his contract he is certainly available.
  18. I just did the Football Manager test and on there we appointed Dave Jones (like someone previously posted) and his first signing was El-Hadji Diouf. I think I'll take KM and no signings over this kind of fantasy.
  19. wasn't trappatoni the manager of Inter when we beat them at Villa Park under Venglos? Klinsmann played against us that night too. It's all gone full circle!
  20. Phil Brown is really good at singing too which will add to the atmosphere at Villa Park and we won't need any dressing rooms which could save us a few pennies aswell.
  21. Now that is a scary thought. I'll fly Bob Bradley over immediately.
  22. we deserve a big name, proven manager. The cheap option would be unacceptable and would indicate we have no desire or ability to compete at the top end anymore. This is the first big test for Randy and I hope he gets it right as I am not ready to turn against our current owners. The new manager has to be given all of the Milner money at the very least otherwise it's not going to take long for people to turn against Lerner. I never thought that scenario was on the cards but now it could happen if things aren't done right. Klinsmann, Rijkaard or Moyes would prove ambition. Curbishley, Southgate, Bradley etc means the dark days will be back and Ash and Gabby will likely follow Milner.
