  1. Don't forget Moyes came close to getting Everton relegated a few years back.
  2. O'Neil couldn't convince Barry or Milner to stay. If Young and Downing don't want to play for Aston Villa then they can go. We need to get Clark, Albrighton, Gardner, Bannon, Gabby and the Fonz (and I'm sure there are more in the youth team right now) playing to their potential so we have a nucleus of VILLA players not the "come here to get noticed and then piss off" players.
  3. http://tinyurl.com/3kh6e6s Story from The Guardian at the end of the season. Whelan predicting Martinez will manage a top club eventually. Also says he is strict with players and is completely against the drinking culture. Martinez won't stand for shit. The more I'm reading, the more I think he might be alright.
  4. Martinez spent the majority of his playing days in England so could be the perfect combination of Spanish/euro style with a deeper understanding of the English game and players. He also had a spell playing for Walsall so is familiar with the area. I would imagine McAllister would be gone I think he would be open to working with Cowans and McDonald aswell as perhaps a more experienced assistant than Graeme Jones. Still dreaming of Ancelotti but preparing to accept and support Martinez.
  5. I think Martinez is obviously a talented manager, a really nice bloke and has a fair deal of charisma too. He did TV work for ESPN in America during the World Cup last year and came across as very intelligent and thoughtful in his analysis of the matches. He has the potential but it's a big jump for him to go from Wigan to us. Given time it could be a masterstroke but I'm not convinced he is ready. But if Moyes, Ancelotti, or Hughes are out of the running then he might be the best option we have. I'll support him but I thought we could have got a top class proven rather than one who has the potential to be top class.
  6. I'm not a fan of Coyle either. Had a good few months but not the genius the media try to make him out to be. Roberto Martinez is more impressive by far. Not that I want him either. Moyes or Ancelotti would make be very happy. FSW I would be alright with but not exactly excited.
  7. this is bollocks. They are just talking about Euro2012 qualifiers and taking the piss out of Bent's miss on the Fox Soccer Report.
  8. Fox Soccer Channel had the Friedel to Spurs thing last week as their 'exclusive'. Their nightly news programme starts at 9pm here in Chicago which is 3am in UK. I'm assuming any news will show up on that.
  9. I'm going to guess this villa 'exclusive' for a US media source is that we have signed Michael Bradley permanently. Wouldn't make sense for it to be manager related.
  10. Stop jumping the gun mate...This isnt the reason they dont want Hughes. They are after bigger fish...No disrespect to Hughes. :winkold: I agree. And also when was the last time Moxley had a good word to say about our club? He is a negative shit stirrer most of the time.
  11. That SkyItalia link and translation is a bit vague. Maybe he refused Roma??? Who knows what's happening. All I know is that we will have a good manager. Ancelotti or Hughes will be great.
  12. I'm not convinced Wilkins is a vital component. A nice bloke sure but is he really that great a coach. Gordon Cowans played in Italy and will understand the language and philosophies of Ancelotti aswell as understanding what a great club we are. Ancelotti and Cowans would be a great partnership.
  13. I'm imagining Ancelotti's eyebrow will be raised even further when he is asked questions by Jack Woodward. That will make for classic viewing I'm sure.
  14. Kendrick's at it again. Birmingham Mail Exclusive. http://tinyurl.com/6ge6upd
  15. I think Hughes would be better than Moyes too. At first I was all about Moyes but if you look at it Hughes has offered alot more in his managerial career. I really want Ancelotti but if it is Hughes that will be fine with me.
  16. That sounds good - short term. I wonder if Hughes (or Moyes) can make a team progress past their "current strengths". If not, we will always be the best of the rest and nothing more. I don't know if Hughes can. He's not really been in one place for too long in his career. I guess you would have to say that Moyes cannot take his club to the next level. Consistently good but never great.
  17. yeah city were alot more of an exciting team to watch under Hughes than they are now. I think Hughes is quite adaptive to what he has in his squad. City played exciting attacking football cause he had the players but at Blackburn he played to their strengths which were technically lacking but effective. He seems astute at assessing players and devising an effective system for that set of players. I think he'd be a good appointment.
  18. Liverpool are much much bigger than us, it would be naive to think otherwise. I know they are a bigger club historically and all that but I think the potential in our squad with a top manager is greater than theirs right now. Gerrard and Carragher are old now and their youngsters are not as good as ours. We can match their wages and I'd much rather have Darren Bent than Andy Carroll.
  19. I still think with a new manager we are in better shape than Liverpool. I really don't understand the pull they still have.
  20. whatever happened to players working to achieve success. What glory is there is walking into another club whose players have got them to champions league level just to get a couple of games here and there and ride on their coat tails? I want players that want to play for Aston Villa in the Champion's League not just play in the Champion's League.
