  1. It's not a bad window and the incomings are good, but we needed a right back and haven't got one, we needed a better backup goalkeeper who is good with his feet, we haven't got one, and with Buendia and Mings out for the season and letting Coutinho and Archer go our squad depth is no better than last season. Our net spend this summer after finishing in Europe for the first time in 13 years is just £30m (approximately) at present. That simply isn't enough if we want to challenge for a top 4 place and win a trophy which Unai keeps saying we do.
  2. Seems like our business may be done unless something picks up in the next few days that has gone under the radar. With £32.5m coming from Ramsey and Archer sales and possibly another £20m if Coutinho and Philogene sales go through this week then that's over £50m that should be available to bring in at least one more player, if not two. We absolutely need another forward and right back so I'm hoping we realise this and bring those players in. I see absolutely no point in changing the left back this late as it would unsettle the defence and all the left backs we're being linked with are worse than Digne.
  3. No thanks to either, both downgrades on Digne.
  4. Squad is looking painfully thin with all these outgoings, I hope we have some players lined up to come in.
  5. Squad as it stands (minus Buendia and Mings who are unlikely to play this season): GK: Martinez, Olsen Defenders: Pau, Konsa, Carlos, Chambers, Cash, Digne, Moreno Midfielders: Kamara, Luiz, Tielemans, Dendoncker, Ramsey, McGinn, Bailey, Diaby, Zaniolo, Traore Strikers: Watkins, Duran 21 senior players if we include 19 year old Duran. Enough for a first 11 and 9 strong subs (with one player missing out). Probably be fine but ultimately the 4 injuries we currently have leaving us short hence my slight concern. Also Traore and Coutinho not very reliable, Olsen a worry as backup to Emi, and Duran still very raw.
  6. You're possibly right but surely those two are going straight back down! Upper Championship quality then is perhaps fairer to Korts but still a long way short of what Villa require to make progress.
  7. I think things will look a bit better squad wise when Ramsey, Moreno, Dendoncker and Coutinho are fit again but I still think we're a couple of players short of where we want to be and going to need players in the squad that we were previously looking to move on. If we're struggling to get in who we want now there's even more chance that will be the case in January when clubs are more reluctant to sell at that time.
  8. Hause needs to go, not sure why he's still here really, injuries probably delaying us moving him out. Mings is injured but Hause is midtable Championship standard so no use to us. Traore will have to stay now because we don't have another options otherwise and he can still contribute off the bench. Unless we bring in another attacking player we basically need to keep Coutinho and Traore or we'll be down to the bare bones with Buendia being out for the season and our youngsters being sold.
  9. Very few tangible links currently, I'm concerned that we may be done. Acuna now injured which has a silver lining as it hopefully means Digne staying, but we are still short of options with the injuries. It will really annoy me if we have moved on Archer, Ramsey and Philogene for a combined £40m to not reinvest that money. The only reason I could see not to do that is for FFP reasons, but if we are allowed to spend it then we should be going in for players like Kudus who are available within that price range. Thiago Almada also available for 15m Euros, so there are options out there that would improve us. We seem to have had trouble finding a right back too, or we are happy with only Cash as our only out and out right back. Overall a positive window but if no one else comes in then I still feel we are short again.
  10. Of those three, AWB is the best shout and better than Cash certainly defensively, maybe not going forward, but that's probably the sort of right back we want. However, I don't think Man Utd would sell him as he's started both of their opening league games and seems first choice. We'd probably be more likely to sign Dalot. My comment was aimed more at the attacking suggestions. I just think given we are about to allegedly make around £40m from selling Academy players that we should be able to aim higher in the attacking positions than Iheanacho and Awoniyi.
  11. I just meant that they're more like backup players rather than players to really drive us forward. Awoniyi is decent but would be backup to Watkins, as would Iheanacho. They wouldn't ever be properly challenging him.
  12. That's fine, you're an opinionated guy, but if you harbour strong opinions don't be surprised if you get challenged on them frequently. And I'm in touch with reality thank you. I meant 10 minutes before the official club announcement, but of course you knew that.
  13. You won't upset me at all, but leave Lucas out of it, quality player who's clearly doing his best for Villa despite the move not working out as he hoped. Oh, and keep sending the team sheets in 10 minutes before kick off, there's a good lad.
  14. Kind of need to win this considering we have Liverpool, Chelsea and Brighton coming up in the next few weeks. Will be a much tougher game than tonight though.
  15. Iheanacho, Wan Bissaka, Awoniyi. Are we shopping in the bargain bin all of a sudden?
  16. We know you hate him, it's boring, find someone else to have a go at before you bore us all to death.
  17. Please don't sell this guy, he's quality.
  18. Sacked a leaving drinks off at work to watch this, I mean it is our first European game in 13 years so a special occasion. Stronger team than I was expecting but hopefully job done after an hour and we can rest a few players up for the Burnley game.
  19. If they did that then fair enough (I wasn't at that game) but many of the ones I came across were arrogant and dismissive and didn't seem to care about our suffering. Not saying we should rub it in now but don't see why we should be so sympathetic to them when they didn't show the same level of affection a few years back to us. But of course a strong Everton is good for the Premier League, just like a strong Villa is, so I hope they recover in the long term.
  20. To be fair I didn't agree with what some of our fans did when Newcastle went down and they've never forgotten about it, although ours was more banter taken too far whereas with Everton there seemed to be complete indifference and even pleasure to what we were going through despite being a big traditional club like them. And if you look on their forum even now when they have a really bad team at present some posters still look down their noses at us. Don't hate them, great club who are currently suffering like we did a few years ago, but this not being relegated in over 70 years is the one thing they hold over us and I think relegation will do them good given they are just circling the drain currently going nowhere and relegation gives them a chance to reset even if financially of course it will hit them hard initially.
  21. Paqueta was dropped because of those betting allegations. He's made most of their squads in recent times including their World Cup squad. And rightly so as he's a very good player. As is Bruno Guimaeres who is probably one of the few in that squad in central midfield better than Dougie (despite some Villa fans saying the opposite) and so is Casemiro although he is getting on a bit. But when Fred was picked over him for the World Cup (not really physical and a very average player), then players like Danilo at Forest, Gomes at Wolves and Andrey Santos at Chelsea being picked over him in recent months as they're the latest young flavour of the month despite playing rarely for teams who finished bottom half of the league. And now Andre seems to be the latest flavour of the month picked over him. We'll see if the appointment of Ancelotti changes anything, but I'm sceptical.
  22. A lot of media sympathy for Everton and also from Villa fans but not from me. I still remember lack of sympathy when we went down seven years ago from the media and opposition fans and I recall Everton fans being the worst. Dismissing us a cr*p team (true, but so are they now) but also taking the p*ss out of us for comparing ourselves to them and thinking they were bigger than us. They have got themselves into this mess for running their club atrociously bad and wasting money on players not fit for purpose. They will be very lucky to avoid a points deduction if they are found to have broken FFP rules through years of reckless spending. Big club like us yes, and sad for them, but given how no one gave a care in the world for us I really couldn't give a f*ck about their current plight.
  23. Still cannot believe he doesn't get called up for his national team, especially when you see some of the other dross in that Brazil squad. No wonder they had a disappointing World Cup. Dougie is quite possibly even better than Gareth Barry in my view who was one of my favourite players growing up.
  24. We should play a strong team but rest a few players. We have Burnley on Sunday which I think is important we win because we go to Anfield after that. I'd probably go: Martinez Chambers Carlos Torres Digne Tielemans Kamara Traore McGinn Zaniolo Watkins Not sure if Zaniolo is fit enough to start but let's see. If the game isn't going to plan after 60 minutes then we have Diaby, Bailey and Luiz to bring on.
