  1. Agreed 100%...my point was that, if we had scored early against Zrinjski, they wouldn't have been able to play that way and we could have run up the score like we did against Alkmaar.

    Clément Lenglet

He looked good for the most part, but really should have closed down Ibrahim on the goal. Not taking anything away from Ibrahim...it was a great finish...but Lenglet could have made it tougher.
  3. I missed most of the first half so I don't feel qualified to give a detailed write up. One comment...Akmaar were more skilled than Zrinjski but they fared worse. Why? I have to believe that it's because we got an early goal and they had to chase the game.
  4. I don't know if Unai will ever trust him again after Legia.
  5. Can't understand why you'd risk Diaby getting hurt when we're up 4-1. Bring on Donck, bring on Duran...
  6. I was thinking the same thing until he gave the striker too much room on that goal. Excellent finish though.
  7. Agreed. Get Duran on for Watkins and Donck on for Doug or Kamara. Give them a break.
  8. Ah, but the feeling at the end of the match when we've won is good for the soul.
  9. Two seasons ago (or was it three?), he and Doug faded late in the season from fatigue...and they didn't have Europe to worry about then.
  10. Agreed. That said, while I've never read a player contract, it wouldn't surprise me if it has some sort of disrepute clause that allows Galatasaray to terminate his contract when something like this happens, so both Villa and Galatasaray may be free of him.
  11. If you'd rather have Buendia back than Zaniolo, something tells me that you don't like Zaniolo very much!

    Unai Emery

In a few years we will beat Real Madrid and/or Barcelona in the CL and he won't need to go there to prove anything.
  13. I think the problem was less who was in the back 3 and more the fact that we essentially played a 6-2-2 in the first half. With everyone so deep, we didn't have many options when we won the ball back. It was hoof it forward and hope to hold it up until people can advance.
  14. My mother told me there'd be days like this. From the missed chances at the end, it obviously wasn't meant to be our day. Still, it's a draw in a sort-of-derby away match against an in-form team. A point is a point. I thought the 6-2-2 in the first half was unnecessarily cautious. Unai obviously saw something that worried him. His tactics worked for what he wanted. I just question what he wanted. No obvious standout as MOTM for the me. I gave it to Konsa.
  15. Ollie usually holds up the ball pretty well, but given how dependent we were on the long ball in the first half, it would have played to Duran's strengths.
  16. He had an off day with some unusually bad touches.
  17. The 6-2-2 is frustrating Wolves, but it also means that we're starting deep when we win the ball back. We've been trying long balls and hoping that Ollie will hold them up to give us time to get men forward, but the long balls haven't been reaching him. When we've been trying to build through the middle instead, Wolves have pressed hard and we've given the ball away, sometimes cheaply; I've seen two unusually sloppy passes from Doug, for example. These things have meant that we're not getting established in the attacking 3rd. On the few occasions where we have gotten established, we look OK. My guess is that Unai will give us 20-25 minutes more of the same and then make some attacking substitutions.
  18. Like Buendia and Bailey were for their first couple years here...
  19. I don't think Unai trusts him after Legia. I think he's done here. Sad to say, because he's usually a competent player and has had good games for us, but he lacks pace, and when he has a bad game, it's pretty bad.
  20. Agreed. At the very top, the continent has gotten pacier, and the English game has gotten more technical and tactical, but there's still a big difference. You can't expect European matches to look like the PL. EDIT: Also, Zrinjski won their league. Maybe it's not a very good league, but they still have a winner's mentality if they got there. These are not loser teams.
  21. I disagree. He doesn't have to go down for it to be a penalty. The defender tugged his shirt at least 3 times and slowed him down. Unimpeded, he might have gotten past the defender and gotten a cross in.
  22. They say that 1 in every 20 corners results in a goal. We were about 5 short.
