For sure, but the only thing that stopped us being Sunderland was two takeovers in relatively quick succession.

Where as Lerner managed to shift us to Dr. Tony quickly enough and he (or whoever he was a front for) managed to invest enough to keep us competitive in the Championship...Ellis Short wasn't quite as 'lucky' and Sunderland dropped again immediately, their takeover going through too late. They're a pretty good view of what would've happened had Lerner not sold.

(And more realistically, Bury or Derby show what would've happened had Dr. Tony not sold).

We've gotten very lucky with the timing our takeovers have all happened..it'll be sad to see Everton become Sunderland, they'll need to get very lucky too.

The thing with our takeovers, particularly in the case of NSWE, it was as much about luck as it was too do with our stature and pedigree - a club available for Championship prices with Premier League facilities is a tempting prospect.

Everton have a similar standing as we do, so there's every chance they'll be snapped up by good owners too.

You can be a professional footballer and play in any of the lower leagues or even non league football, there are a lot more professional footballers that play at those lower levels than in the Premier League, he already told them he was a professional footballer, but didn't want to make a big deal of the fact that he was a professional footballer at a well known Premier League club like Brentford, I'm pretty sure if he played for Aston Villa, Man Utd, Liverpool or whoever he would have answered in the same way.

Imagine if a Man City player was asked the same question and answered 'no one special', it wouldn't be seen as direspectful, but rather a player not wanting to make a big deal over the fact that they play for such a well known club, and they would probably get praised for being so humble and down to earth, bearing that in mind people are being kind of disrespectful to Brentford themselves in presuming he means it in a negative way because he plays for Brentford.

Also he was apparently stopped by tiktokers who make videos of themselves stopping people in fancy looking cars and asking them what their favorite crypto currency is, there was probably an element of him wanting to get away, so with that in mind would make sense for him not to want to tell them that he plays for a well known club like Brentford, as that would obviously lead to more questions.

This would be a fair argument if he hadn't already been filmed shouting "f*** Brentford". It's very hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think he meant to be impolite, or show alack of respect to Brentord in that clip, seems like he said 'nowhere special' rather than naming Brentford as the team he plays for, because he didn't want to come across as showing off or being big headed.

He'd already said he was a professional footballer. When asked what team you play for after saying that, why else would you not name the club other than if you're embarrassed to be associated with them?

Brentford are a fantastically well run club and they deserve far more respect than that. Toney needs a reality check, he isn't the megastar he clearly thinks he is.

    It’s still not sunk in.

After his debut at VP when we were walking back to the car my boy just said ‘dad, I can’t believe I’ve just saw Phillippe Countinho play football, and I can’t believe it was for us’

Even last night I said similar to the boy, it’s ridiculous really. Watching him is absolute joy.

I don't speak to my cousin much since he moved down south, but last night he called me just to sing that Coutinho song down the phone. Magic indeed.

Werent we always?? Jack was always a diva who always twerked for others and thought he deserved better than us.

Funny you dont get any tweets from him atm about how well Coutinho is doing at his club.

He might have said something by now if he was the one who ran his account. But he's so high profile now, there's no way he's allowed.

    To be fair, I do.

I have chronic Sinusitis | Tinnitus | ENT respiratory + allergy problems and live in the desert though!

Fun and jokes aside, I remember in the past, before Covid was a thing, I always used to see Asians wearing masks in the airport.

At the time I thought it was bizarre, turns out, they were onto something. lol

The mad thing is, the reason so many Asians wear masks in airports, around Birmingham etc is because of SARS. Now we're all doing it because of SARS-2. They've been through this before and were prepared.

    Back on topic:

Philippe knows what it's like to throw away the adoration of fans and potential legendary status for easy glory, and he didn't like it. I only hope he's learned from that mistake.

Also it's probably been said before, but it's funny how Coutinho left Liverpool for crazy money, who used that money to improve their whole team and kick on. Now Jack has left us for crazy money, we've gone and done the same thing, in part by (hopefully) buying the same guy who's sale improved Liverpool. It's almost poetic.

If he stayed, with this ownership, he'd have had a statue outside the ground less than five years after he retired.

I get the feeling that regardless of what he thinks right now, after he's retired he'll look back on his decision to leave with regret. Some things are worth more than money and plastic trophies in the long run.

If in the summer you were offered 67 million plus Coutinho for Grealish would you have accepted it?

If you remember this summer before he left, we almost universally agreed that we wouldn't sell him for anyone, not even prime Neymar. Never has a player been put on a pedestal and worshipped by an entire fanbase like Jack was, with the exception of Messi at Barca. He was utterly priceless to us.

I think about that and wonder if he really knew. I can't imagine anybody giving that up for anything, even trophies and glory.

@a m ole love your work there, love it.

And, as ever, **** West Ham.  **** West Ham and their taxpayer-funded-stadium-having, animal-abuser-employing, your-kit-colours-are-a-hand-me-down existence.  A team who think shouting about their greatest achievement being "ooh we had a few players in them there '66 World Cup, don't you know" isn't actually a hilariously indictment of how aggressively beige their entire history is.  If you were a food you would be unbuttered brown toast.  If you were tableware, you'd be a plastic knife and fork on a paper plate.  If you were an animal, you'd have punted it across the room, apparently.  Their stadium should be used to divide a motorway, such as it is a monument to being middle-of-the-road.

And the Moore bros. There must be more examples. It's something of a cliché now isn't it?

I read about this phenomenon somewhere. It was found to be true in most cases that when siblings okay the same sport from a young age, the youngest ends up being the better sportsman.

The conclusion reached was that athletes are naturally competitive types, so as the elder siblings improve, the younger ones use them as a target to surpass. They also get the chance to witness their elder siblings' mistakes and learn lessons from them.

There's no guarantee and it's not fair to put down JJ or put unnecessary pressure on AJ, but the research backs it up.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Targett and would prefer he stays as back up for now, but FFS the Newcastle press really are over-hyping some of their signings under their new murderous regime:

The word "can" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I'm sure I "can" score a goal in the Premier League in theory, doesn't mean I'm ever going to.

At any rate, it'd be a shame to see him leave as he'd be quality cover. I don't blame him if that's not what he wants, though. It's just a shame he's going there of all places.
