Yeah I’m of a similar thought but as I wasn’t alive then I don’t feel qualified to be too dismissive of winning stuff back then.

My somewhat sarcastic George Ramsey comment is me trying to allude to the futility of comparing different eras. He won loads, but there’s no one alive who remembers it so it doesn’t count.

And one day, let’s say 50 years from now, this era will be looked back upon as kinda quaint and not as good as what football will be in 50 years time. It’ll be “Unai Emery? Oh sure he was probably good for that time, very good even. But come on, they were still pissing about with VAR back then, it doesn’t compare to the modern game.”

Ultimately, we can have the debate, but it’s kinda pointless.

A good point, but it'll be harder to ignore Unai's greatness when there's a solid gold statue of him outside the stadium, and all four stands are named after him.

Mad to think Gerrard is probably earning more than Unai

Unai is earning the love and respect of a global fanbase, as well as the recognition and admiration of large parts of the football community as a whole, in addition to a large sum of money. Gerrard is simply earning a larger sum of money.

I suppose it depends on what you consider to be more valuable.

Moussa is my favorite player currently, but he can be better than he has been the last couple matches.

That's the beauty of it. He doesn't have to be.

Have we ever had videos like this with any other manager? Also, does any other team do this with their manager? I'm sure I've never seen anything like it, but I'm captivated by it every time they post one.

    Ooooooh, I like this.

How can, "near hopeless" and "be a big loss" be concurrently true?

As has been stated, because their whole team was hopeless last season. Therefore, a player who is only "near hopeless" is automatically better than the rest.

I thought we were generally quite poor and didn’t show a great deal of hustle.

Is this opinion not allowed because we won?

You could instead say that we didn't need to put 100% effort in to win this game, as doing so would be a pointless risk. With respect to Hibs, we are several levels above them in quality. Why should we go all out?

If they go down we tie/lose the "Most played fixture in English top football". And you KNOW how much the commentators well remind us that is is United-Arsenal from now on. 🤮

*Things that piss you off that shouldn't.

This is the main reason I don't want them to get relegated. It's a nice bit of trivia.

Wonder what we could've achieved that season if he didn't get injured against Southampton. Him and Grealish together were electric in that brief period. Seen a clip doing the rounds on Twitter of the two of them toying with Rob Holding which traumatized Arsenal fans 😂

He may have been crap for us overall but I'll always remember him fondly for that moment along with the 7-2.

  9. I became interested in watching football largely because of Messi and his wizardry, so I'd watch Barcelona at pretty much every opportunity. I thought that meant they were my second team, but ever since Messi left I've not cared a jot about them.

I know it's a record breaking signing but 45 M really is nothing in the PL these days.

It may not be particularly expensive these days, but I wouldn't say it's nothing. 45m still buys real quality at this level.

Brilliant to watch that body cam footage. The lack of thinking time or time to dwell on the ball is really striking

It really is. Watching from our usual overhead view makes it look so much easier than it actually is.

  12. It'll be interesting to see what happens next season, if nothing else. Money doesn't equal success after all; it comes down to savvy just add much as resources. If they keep Craig Gardner as their DoF, they're no danger to anyone.

As for us being rattled? Surely they must understand that even in a best case scenario it'll take many, many years before they reach the level we're at now, by which time we could very well have advanced even further.

They always have, and always will be, in our shadow.

honestly tho, that shirt is a monstrosity, it looks like it was designed and patched together by a 10 year old.

the blocky blue shoulders are ugly as heck.

Pau looks damn good in it though.

  14. Thrilled to see his name in the Villa Talk section again. One of my favourite players ever, simply for the determination he always had. He will no doubt be an exceptional role model for the youngsters. Welcome back, Conor!
