Birmingham City are pretty much f***ed and it will take something special to rescue them (F365)

Full of stuff most of us probably know already, but interesting none the less.

I knew about most of it, bit this is the first I'm hearing about the "ghost manager" situation. They're openly talking about replacing Bowyer but they haven't bothered to actually tell him? That's just delightful.

  2. Seems like a great appointment. I'm not going to pretend I know anything about him, but when the fans are gutted about someone leaving their club that can only be a good sign.

It's worth noting that the Elite Badge is not a UEFA thing, but an English FA badge. It was a special course run in 2013, offered to something like 40 of the best English coaches around, of which Critchley was one. Only 16 graduated, so he is certainly held in high regard.

These two penalties denied by Moss and VAR.

Honestly, An hour or so later, I still can't believe what I saw. What's VAR for if it isn't correcting this?

The second one is a stone wall penalty, but in the first one it does look like the Huddersfield player was practically throwing himself to the floor before the contact was made.

I've brought it in here because the Gresford thread is getting derailed.

I disagree actually.  It's pretty subjective which was the better team.  I'm not convinced The Golden Generation were as good as they were cracked up to be.

And as someone else said compared to the current competition the existing team have far less to compete with.

    So, in my opinion subjective.

But the main problem with The Golden Generation was the internal divisions.  There was huge inter club rivalry and a North/South divide which caused massive rifts between the players. I don't think they could ever fulfil their potential.

So maybe Southgate can take some credit for bringing the squad closer together, but I suspect it's just something that's evolved naturally as the knob heads have retired.  The current crop in the main seem much less egotistical.

I think growing up with social media has more to do with the player's closeness than Southgate. They all seem to be good mates and regularly interact with each other over different social media platforms, the clubs they represent being irrelevant.

Pochettino was at Newell’s at the same time as Maradona. I’m pretty sure he would say he’s the best player he’s played with or trained with. Would you want him signed if Poch was manager?😄

Interesting analogy. I think the key difference here is that Luis Suarez is still alive.

Another player who loves sliding tackles, I hope our scouting isn't following on from last summers selections. Beundia apart.

Gerrard's great vision: 11 players skidding about on their arses for 90 minutes.

  7. Time to get rid of that speculation tag.

Fantastic work by the club, as per. Getting all the main targets in early is crucial for preseason. Doing it before the window is even open though, that's just spectacular.

We almost got him in January. I think we'll go back again harder. He'll be a good foil for Kamara. They'd protect the defence nicely and contribute more to ball retention and distribution.

Bissouma, Kamara. It means no worries for the rest of our life

I already thought he'd bea great bit of business, but now I want this signing more because of that pun.

Hypothetical scenario... the club you've supported all your lives gets bought out by a murderous backwards regime that intend to use your club to sportswash their image....

Do you stop going to matches? Do you stop buying the kit? Do you fully stop supporting them and find a new team?

If Villa were bought out by a regime that actively wants people like me dead I'd never watch another Villa game ever again. I'd find some local grassroots team and support them instead. I sure as hell wouldn't make excuses for them like the Geordies are doing.

Some (let's be honest, most) things are bigger than football.

  10. There's something to be said for all three.

I've always had s bit of a soft spot for Everton. They always seem to be in roughly the same sort of place as us and I've never met a bad fan. Their predicament this season has brought the cavemen among their fans out in force, but then I suppose that happens to all clubs going through a rough patch. It'd be weird to see them drop. On the other hand, if they spent long enough in the championship, eventually we'd overtake them in time spent in the English top flight, so there's that.

Leeds are nobheads and seeing them relegated would be both hilarious and deserved. But as has been stated, their abrasiveness makes them interesting so they definitely add something to the league. Also my dad is a Leeds fan, so being able to sit and watch our matches with him whenever I visit is worth it.

Burnley... Who cares, honestly. I voted for them.

Surely being a Man City fan or player must feel a bit like playing FIFA or Football manager on cheat mode…. Not actually that fun or rewarding and gets boring quickly?

Like great you win a title… but I mean it’s almost a given you’re going to win it regardless, then surely it gets a little stale and dull after.

It's like playing FM on the easiest difficulty with the unlimited money cheat on, and still being incapable of winning everything. I'd be very frustrated if I were so incompetent.

  12. That's pretty interesting. Clearly we're doing something right.

Edit: I assume this includes McGinn too? And what about Cash?

For sure, but the only thing that stopped us being Sunderland was two takeovers in relatively quick succession.

Where as Lerner managed to shift us to Dr. Tony quickly enough and he (or whoever he was a front for) managed to invest enough to keep us competitive in the Championship...Ellis Short wasn't quite as 'lucky' and Sunderland dropped again immediately, their takeover going through too late. They're a pretty good view of what would've happened had Lerner not sold.

(And more realistically, Bury or Derby show what would've happened had Dr. Tony not sold).

We've gotten very lucky with the timing our takeovers have all happened..it'll be sad to see Everton become Sunderland, they'll need to get very lucky too.

The thing with our takeovers, particularly in the case of NSWE, it was as much about luck as it was too do with our stature and pedigree - a club available for Championship prices with Premier League facilities is a tempting prospect.

Everton have a similar standing as we do, so there's every chance they'll be snapped up by good owners too.

You can be a professional footballer and play in any of the lower leagues or even non league football, there are a lot more professional footballers that play at those lower levels than in the Premier League, he already told them he was a professional footballer, but didn't want to make a big deal of the fact that he was a professional footballer at a well known Premier League club like Brentford, I'm pretty sure if he played for Aston Villa, Man Utd, Liverpool or whoever he would have answered in the same way.

Imagine if a Man City player was asked the same question and answered 'no one special', it wouldn't be seen as direspectful, but rather a player not wanting to make a big deal over the fact that they play for such a well known club, and they would probably get praised for being so humble and down to earth, bearing that in mind people are being kind of disrespectful to Brentford themselves in presuming he means it in a negative way because he plays for Brentford.

Also he was apparently stopped by tiktokers who make videos of themselves stopping people in fancy looking cars and asking them what their favorite crypto currency is, there was probably an element of him wanting to get away, so with that in mind would make sense for him not to want to tell them that he plays for a well known club like Brentford, as that would obviously lead to more questions.

This would be a fair argument if he hadn't already been filmed shouting "f*** Brentford". It's very hard to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think he meant to be impolite, or show alack of respect to Brentord in that clip, seems like he said 'nowhere special' rather than naming Brentford as the team he plays for, because he didn't want to come across as showing off or being big headed.

He'd already said he was a professional footballer. When asked what team you play for after saying that, why else would you not name the club other than if you're embarrassed to be associated with them?

Brentford are a fantastically well run club and they deserve far more respect than that. Toney needs a reality check, he isn't the megastar he clearly thinks he is.

After his debut at VP when we were walking back to the car my boy just said ‘dad, I can’t believe I’ve just saw Phillippe Countinho play football, and I can’t believe it was for us’

Even last night I said similar to the boy, it’s ridiculous really. Watching him is absolute joy.

I don't speak to my cousin much since he moved down south, but last night he called me just to sing that Coutinho song down the phone. Magic indeed.

Werent we always?? Jack was always a diva who always twerked for others and thought he deserved better than us.

Funny you dont get any tweets from him atm about how well Coutinho is doing at his club.

He might have said something by now if he was the one who ran his account. But he's so high profile now, there's no way he's allowed.
