Good comment but I didn’t specifically state that JJ didn’t deserve it, he clearly did for Deano to give him time and he proved a better judge than many of us… I just meant that it wasn’t obvious (to some of us) that he was a special talent when he played in those games… Yeah, I guess there are different aspects/elements to integrating players, particularly those form abroad and on the younger side…

I think a few members may be better served applying for roles on the mod team… Could be argued that the comments of least worth are those complaining as to how forums and threads should be run… and exactly what content should appear on here… Some people seem to object to a bit of free discussion and humour… why bother logging on and posting to complain about that and contributing nothing else? I don’t get it… we’re not robots either…

I won’t call you daft but I cannot agree… In my view, if there’s an opportunity to bring in a top class player that could elevate our team, even the club, then we should take it and players can be “won over” or “converted” if they come into a positive and enjoyable atmosphere/environment - which I believe we have at the club. I don’t think Unai would sign anyone who wasn’t deemed a good fit or too much of a risk, more research goes into signing these days than ever before, especially by credible and knowledgable people such as him and Monchi. Regarding those players, we don’t even know (for sure) whether Unai is even interested… all we do know is that we tried for Felix in January and Unai rates and likes him, even calling him “special”… I’ve never heard a word from him regarding Johnson…

I think it depends on outgoings… It’s so hard to call really, we don’t know what Unai’s plans are… and which players are not in them… I’m going to go with a maximum of 3. Possibly one more “big signing”, likely toward the end of the window, and 2 to bring in competition and help the squad.

Emi It’s growing on me more (even with that stupid, random assortment of “lions” - where? All I see is a claw ). Quite smart and “fresh”. Much better than the home shirt which is frankly terrible and the worst design we’ve had since promotion.

I think Unai is best placed to judge mate, through conversations and meetings with these players… We don’t have any real insight into the attitude, desire or adaptability of any player really…. we just judge from afar without really knowing anything… As ever, if there’s a player Unai wants/rates/likes and believes will fit in here… then we should be all for it and who knows better than him? He has so much knowledge and experience and will be able or well placed to judge how likely a player would be able to fit into our “family group”, settle (will get plenty of help, similarly to Pau and Moreno) and most importantly - make an impact and contribution…

Exactly what I was thinking… seems to be an excellent passer of the ball, you have to be to play for those teams… but he seems to excel at it… It’s something that Unai values and has emphasised and improved in our style… maybe he wants more…

Ok, I’m coming around to the idea where would he fit in though? We have several top midfielders…

Yeah it’s a weird one… protecting his value? It can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff in terms of transfer links, itks etc… Doesn’t seem like a player we need or who would make a big impact… but I dunno. Is he good defensively? Always struck me as a bit of a lightweight but barely watched him since his Arsenal days… If Unai actually wanted him, I’d be all for it though…

I’m a bit taken aback at how poor his stats are over so many seasons but also surprised at how relatively young he is, thought he was a fair bit older and seems to have been around for a long time… Last season was decent in terms of assists… seems to have gotten more game time than expected at Real Madrid too…
