  1. Second top poster in this thread apparently according to the stats at the top of the page..... It's like a name and shame list
  2. There are very few exceptions to that rule
  3. It’s not the best if he is going to the competition but I feel when you have older players who aren’t the very top of the tree it is best to sell for good fees and try again. I feel the same about McGinn whereas I don’t feel that about Digne for example. I wouldn’t have brought Carlos for the same reason, and I was VERY on the fence over Coutinho. Ings I felt just didn’t fit us. I really buy into the line of it’s a good time to sell a player.
  4. Well that is kind of the point isn't it. We don't have a style, the players don't seem coached to it. That is on the manager and his staff.
  5. I don’t agree. it is the early mon years repeating itself. you have to buy transition players to stay in the league then replace them. That is what we have been doing. 50 million pound players don’t join Villa when they are promoted or after they have stayed up by the skin of their teeth so the first opportunity to do what you have said is last summer and this one. So my question to you is who wouldn’t you have brought that they did. I wouldn’t have brought a few of them that’s for sure.
  6. I just want to say here, as someone who never wanted Gerrard and have been critical of him since watching the first half dozen games...... It is worth saying he won't be going until at least the end of September, so in my opinion we as fans shouldn't be too negative when watching the games live creating a toxic atmosphere and transferring it onto the pitch. That's all I have to say.
  7. It is mostly about understanding amortization on accounts. So buying a 50 million pound player on a 5 year contract costs 10 million for FFP each year as long as your owner is covering any actual losses the club makes. If after 2 years he is still here he is worth 30 million on the accounts and he signs a new 5 year deal he then costs 6 million a year for FFP from then on. Consequently when you sell a player you brought for 20 million on a 4 year deal for 15m million after 2 years he is worth 10 million on the books so is classed as a 5 million profit. Lastly when you sell a home grown player they have no value on the books so it is all profit so selling Grealish for 100m allows you to buy Ten 50m pound players for one season on the accounts, you would however be screwed the next year. This means when having a fairly even net spend over the last 2 years the Grealish money on the FFP accounts really just wipes out our previous spending.
  8. We don't want to be not registering players for the squad that we pay millions to.
  9. Nah, he is from Liverpool.... probably just wants to go home and they gave him a good deal
  10. That or they don’t feel the right targets are available. the owners have put so much in it isn’t unreasonable that they have gone to a more balanced position. When we trade players now the ones going out are for significant sums. That maguire guy who does football finances is good to follow for this sort of thing.
  11. If the owners want to spend we certainly do have massive ability to do on FFP
  12. Depends how physical you want to get from the people I listed. soumare and sangare are the biggest for sure. Sangare can pass, I’m less sure on soumare as a hybrid. They are about 6’3 or 4 Next you have Koopmeiners who is just over 6’ I’d say he can definitely do it all. Zumabendi looks just under 6’ so I wouldn’t rule him out but doesn’t quite meet your requirements. if I were dumping McGinn I would want to hear Fabian Ruiz say no to a transfer for us before considering anyone else but there is a metric ton of players worth considering for the further forward role.
  13. That is what I have thought for a long time now.
  14. I'm always up for Koopmeiners Depends what sort of midfielder you want, as you are mentioning defensive midfielders I guess you are interested in that? I wouldn't rule out Sangare if we actually wanted him, his new deal likely has the same release clause in it as he wouldn't want to price himself out of a move for slightly more money from PSV. Zubimendi maybe? Soumare? Realistically I think our problem is tactical and coaching now we have Kamara in squad. I would be playing Luis/Kamara in a pivot. I would still want another DM in the squad which this summer would have been two from Sangare/Koopmeiners/Kamara/Bissouma. The latter two signed for new clubs so one of the former two. For what it is worth I think making McGinn captain was a stupid idea as I would have sold him for good money and got a better replacement this summer. Ruiz at Napoli is in his last year, Aouar is available on the cheap, hell even Maddison would have been worth a go if you wanted an 8/10 type as your furthest forward midfielder.
  15. We need to bring in a top class experienced system manager when they finally get rid of Gerrard. I just had a look at the fixtures for this month and next and they aren't that kind, they also have a bunch of the teams we are supposed to compete with so if we keep losing I can see him out sooner than I thought originally.
  16. Yep, hiring a manager who's CV was far below what we could have got was also baffling. I honestly think if Smith was still here with the same players brought in we would have got more points and had more enjoyment from watching the team.
  17. Blasphemy to a lot of fans who think he is some god like figure. He can be but often he is not.
  18. Like people have repeatedly said in the transfer market
  19. just wow, even if he turns out to be a top left back long term that is a really stupid bet to take at those odds.
  20. 60 million for one season of proof is insane. That is probably the highest fee ever paid for a fullback
