Penalty decision in the Man U game and VAR did not intervene because it was not a clear and obvious error.

    Loving the consistency.

Well now there is consistency...Bruno has just gone shin to shin with WBA player, pen given on-field, VAR said no pen.

This is the main point for me, and something I've mentioned multiple times here. It's a farce to claim VAR is there to overturn clear and obvious errors, when in most cases it is just a second referee giving his subjective opinion on a close call.

When I saw it live, I thought Trez went down fairly easily and maybe wasn't a pen. Then, watching the first replay, I saw a clear foot to shin with an exaggerated fall by Trez. After the 1000th replay, I noticed March got a foot on the ball before following through on Trez (got a foot on the ball is not the same as play the ball). However, in the modern game just touching the ball first is no longer sufficient to avoid a foul, and if this was elsewhere on the pitch then it probably would have been a free kick. On the other hand, if we were 2-1 up and that was given as a pen against us, I'm sure some of us on here would be fuming.

The point from the above paragraph is that the decision could go either way. Thus, it is not a clear and obvious error and the on-field decision should stand.

the point of them going to the monitor is so that the ref still looks like the man in charge and gives the impression that he made the decision. no other reason for it. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but not once has a ref been sent to the monitor and kept his on field decision

The ref has disagreed with VAR only once. Incidentally, that decision also went in Brighton's favour (although you can't claim VAR bias here since VAR suggested the decision go against Brighton):

Yesterday was the first time this season that a ref went to the monitor but kept the original decision (disagreed with VAR). Brighton player "won" the ball and went on to score from the resulting attack.

This was the best clip I could find. Ref was literally 2m away from the live play and spent about 2 mins watching it back on the monitor, but decided no foul committed by the Brighton player.

Ref was probably just making things even for this absolute bollocks pen given earlier in the match. Kane makes no attempt for the ball (is looking at the man to see where the contact will be) and places Lallana in danger of injury by purposely clattering into him while airborne, yet somehow gets a pen.

And just like sancho that number will be one they can't afford

  5. Cavani, intentionally or not, dangerously stamps on Richarlison's ankle.

In the South American World Cup qualifying showdown between Uruguay and Brazil in Montevideo, Edinson Cavani was harshly sent off midway through the second half for a challenge on Everton’s Richarlison – although this will of course have no bearing on his availability for Saturday.

So clear that not a single player on either side saw it, nor the match officials, nor the commentators or any of either set of fans I’d wager a guess.

But yeah, aside from not a single person involved seeing anything wrong with it it’s a clear call.

It also took 4 minutes and 20 seconds to determine the ‘clear’ offence.

Nah, only took 3 minutes according to the stoppage time at the end of the half

International football in the middle of a global pandemic is a joke and shows how those at the top only think about money.

Entire Norwegian team placed in quarantine because a player tested positive, so they have to play their match today in Austria with a complete B team. Maybe even a C team if you consider that the second XI are also out and thirteen of the 18 in the matchday squad are yet to receive a cap. This is already after their previous matches during this window were cancelled.

Why is this important? Well, if they beat Austria, then they're in pole position to get promoted to League A. Lose, and they finish 2nd in the group. OK, the Nations League isn't that important, but the chance to play top teams next go around is probably of great interest to the Norwegians.

I understand that of course sometimes players get injured...maybe bad luck would cause Haaland, Odegaard, etc. to miss the match through injury, but everyone is on the same playing field with respect to luck and injuries. Asking, well forcing, a team to play a "crucial game" when the government will not allow the team to travel is not fair and shows how much of a farce this entire situation is and makes a mockery of international football.

Now UEFA awarded Romania a 3-0 win over Norway, because the Norwegian government (not the players or the Norwegian FA) did not allow the team to travel. Absolute shambles.

Anyone else feels bad for him?

Won our first 2 games with him starting and didn't put a foot wrong.

Since then he has not kicked a ball.

Well if he's not even doing that in training then he shouldn't be getting into the first XI.

MOTD didn't show the bit near the end of the second half where he controlled a ball , had 2 or maybe even 3 Arsenal players close him down, and he just shaped his body turned and left them all for dead .

That got me out of my seat as well, but couldn't find a clip of it. Here's the volley...goal of the season if it's not blocked.

  13. I don't think this was the end of the world against what has become a bogey team for us. Yes, we were dire in the first half, but they also scored 2 quality FKs and basically their only chance from open play in the entire match was a world-class, unstoppable strike. And, the fact that we bossed them when allowed to control possession bodes very well for our upcoming fixtures (after Arsenal) in which we should be expected to be on the front foot.

After 7 rounds of fixtures, we're ahead of Leicester, Arsenal, City, and United. I think we would all have taken that before the first ball was kicked this season.

I'm thinking that, if I'm a keeper and a player puts one in the top corner from a central position, I'm going to put someone on the other post next time so I've more chance of reaching it if he does it again. Second time, Emi didn't even move. It was poor, sorry.

He had a player protecting the post. Unfortunately, said player had his feet nailed to the ground.

  15. Doesn't deserve a call-up for the next England matches. Might bring his head back down to Earth...

Would say he should be benched for the next match but not sure Hause is a better option...

Why don't we do something similar. Our media team is so lazy, really needs stepping up. Championship level atm
