  1. There will be 7 English teams. If ManU win the FA cup they will get a spot in the Europa League together with Spurs and 6th in the League get Conference League.
  2. Let’s hope that we never get into a situation where a Villa win would hand the title to Birmingham.
  3. What would be your favourite travel destination? My preferences are: Pot 1: Barcelona Pot 2: Milan Pot 3: Lisbon Pot 4: Monaco This is not based on football reason, purely on places I would like to visit.
  4. So far so good. If Spurs fail to score in the second half too, we can celebrate.
  5. You aren’t wrong, but you are writing this in most popular tread on VillaTalk at the moment, and the tread have nothing to with Villa, except it’s all about an other team doing us a favour.
  6. On one side I would love us to do this ourself, and not rely on other teams to do the job for us. On the other hand I would like to avoid the nervous breakdown I would get, if we have to go to Crystal Palace on the last day to get a result. For the mental health of all Villa fans, please ManC don’t lose today.
  7. Not all players are like Bert Trautmann. But seriously, there are different level of injuries some minor injuries would allow a player to continue to play without risking further complications. Other injuries means a player has to heal the injury before playing again. What is your view on Mings? Is he unprofessional and not committed to Villa since he have taken the year off?

    Chelsea

How many hotels do they have?
  9. A draw do change the following: Spurs need to win both remaining matches, a draw and a win + overcome goal difference would no longer be enough. We would still be at +20 goal difference, meaning Spurs still needs to improve their goal difference with 8 goals. If Spurs beat ManC, an other draw against Crystal Palace could be enough to keep 4th, depending on goal difference. But since ManC would trash Spurs, you are right our results wouldn’t change anything.
  10. We have 3 opportunities to qualify for Champions League before the last game of the season; Saturday: Burnley to beat Spurs Monday: Us to beat Liverpool Tuesday: ManC to beat Spurs, in addition if Spurs drew against Burnley an other draw against ManC will see us in 4th spot. In addition if we draw against Liverpool, we will qualify if Spurs don’t win both matches against Burnley and ManC. I’m pretty confident we have qualified before we play Crystal Palace. Most likely it will be Burnley that brings us over the line, the blueprint on how to beat Spurs is now well known, giving Burnley an excellent chance to get a vital result in their relegation battle.
  11. Our most used players have played 10-20 games more than the most used Spurs players, in that sense you are right. However, Spurs play a high intensity tactic with a high press, while we have a more low/medium intensity tactic. The result seems to be that both set of players are burned out at this stage in the season. Next season with Spurs in Europe, their players will be burned out at an earlier stage in the season, expect them to be mid table. We need to recruit well in the summer, because it is not sustainable that our best players play 50+ matches in a season. Both because burn out at the end of the season and also to avoid injuries because of fatigue and tiredness.
  12. If you chill and don’t care about the outcome, how do you get any enjoyment out of the journey?
  13. Can Spurs even beat Burnley? It could be all over by the time we play Liverpool.
  14. I guess Opta think there is a 90% chance Spurs will bottle it too.
  15. Not really, they need to win their last two, and Nottingham loses their last to go one point clear of Nottingham.
  16. Our best players have played about 10 more matches than ManC best players this season. That is one of the reason our form have dropped off lately, while ManC is better late in the season than in the start. we need a larger and better squad for next season, and some luck when it comes to injuries.
  17. Rumours have it that ManU and Bayer Munich will swap managers, ten Hag to Munich and Tuchel to Manchester. I would love it to happen, but if it does happen, whoever is in charge at the two clubs needs their head examined.
  18. Good news, one of ManU, Newcastle and Chelsea will not get European football next season. Bad news two of them will. 2/3 sad, 1/3 happy.
  19. I don’t understand why we voted no. The vote was only about the anchoring, not the 70%/85% since those are UEFA rules. The anchoring would not make a difference against the top six, we would still have the low revenue. Actually it would help against ManU and ManC, since they are the only two teams that would have to limit their spending because of anchoring, since they have that high revenue. Originally it was reported on Sky that we were against it because teams in Premier League not in Europe could spend £466 mill, while we could only spend 70% of revenue. That would have made sense, except it isn’t true, or maybe even the club misunderstood the rules. The more I learn about this, the more baffling is the position of the club on this. It simply make no sense to vote no for Aston Villa. We are years and years away to be able to get a revenue that would limit our spending because of anchoring.
  20. There are two caps on squad cost, the UEFA cap that say cost of the squad have to be 70% of revenue and the Premier League cap that says the squad cost have to be limited to £466mill. Our current revenue is around £200mill, meaning we can spend £140mill on the squad. While other Premier League team that haven’t qualified for Europe can spend £466mill. To be able to spend as much as the rest of the Premier League teams we have to raise our revenue to £665mill.
  21. Back in the days before Champions League, there were three cups: European cup - for League winners only Cup winners cup - for Cup winners only UEFA cup - for losers. Of course the cup winners cup was more prestigious than the UEFA cup, after all it was for teams that had won something. Also the winner of the cup winners cup qualified for the European super cup. What we have now is: Champions League: top teams in the top European leagues Europa League: a mix of not so top teams from top European leagues, top teams from weaker European Leagues. Conference League: the rest
  22. Actually there are 36 teams, so 12 teams get knocked out. Top 8 teams go directly into round of 16, where they are seeded. Teams 9 to 16 are drawn against teams 17 to 24 in a qualifying round before the winners are drawn against the top 8 teams. I believe we could manage get into the top 16, that provides a good chance to get into the round of 16.
  23. A chicken and egg question. Unless you have Champions League and the income that comes with it, you wouldn’t be able to attract and pay for the players to build the squad required for Champions League. If we qualify for Champions League this season, the next and the one after that, I think by then we would be ready for Champions League.
  24. If we can match whatever Spurs do against Chelsea, Liverpool and ManC in our last 3 games, we get 4th place, either it is 0 points, 4 points or 9 points. I think a win against Brighton will be enough.
  25. Chelsea are chasing 6th place and Europa League. If they beat Spurs they are 3 points behind ManU. I’m 80% confident that Chelsea would at least manage a draw on Thursday. If we then manage to beat Brighton on Sunday, we would be 9 or 10 points ahead of Spurs when they play Liverpool.
