  1. I just think a lot of short termism on here at the moment. Can you honestly see a Deschamps or Ancelotti sticking around for more than 1 or 2 seasons? If (Insert Massive Club) came calling they'd be gone. A la Hughes at Fulham. Long term wise Hughes is the best candidate and for him and us it's mutually benifical challenge to kick on to the next level.
  2. I'm disappointed his hasn't kept to his word and ended his career with Oldham! But definiely the right time to go. Great Player and the man England should have built the team round instead of playing him left wing.
  3. This is just me putting two and two together but doesn’t Mark Hughes have a break clause which can be activated tomorrow ?
  4. Regardless it’s not great as it opens everything up and gives clubs an opening to sniff around. Young is gone once United have had the Champions League final. If Downing goes as well, that would be a much worse. Just move quickly and buy N’Zogbia. As he’s the only one that is near that level and proven in the league. I now have a horrible feeling of seeing Gabby and Albrighton starting on the wings in August...
  5. Yeah definitely was 1-1 Staunton put us ahead and I think Goss equalised.
  6. Anyone thinking giving Guzan the gloves might be interesting? He's back from Hull (i'd imagine), been playing so should be match fit and he at least deserves a chance to step up. And if he's horrible put Friedel back on and sell him to a Championship club.
  7. 100% KEEP: Dunne, Clark, Baker, Downing, Bannan, Makoun, Bent, Delph, Young, Albrighton, Delfouneso, Wiemann, Gardner, Walker (in an ideal world) LIMBO: Reo Coker, Herd, Hogg, Lichaj, Bradley, Heskey, Collins, Cuellar, Agbonlahor, Friedel, Pires 100% GO Petrov, Warnock, Beye, Ireland, Guzan, Carew, Osbourne, Salifou, L.Young, Lowry, Marshall
  8. At the moment only West Brom v Wolves are playing on the Sunday, so looks like a free week.
  9. Keep the momentum up... Friedel Walker Dunne Collins Baker Petrov Makoun Albrighton Young Downing Heskey Subs: Marshall, Clark, Herd, Bannan, Delfouneso, Agbonlahor, Reo Coker
  10. I don't see where he'd fit in at Bolton to be honest. Elmander and Davies are nailed on every game as are Holden and Muamba. I wouldn't break that up to put Ireland in. Always think it could have been different if he had scored when he scewed the shot just wide (can't remember which game it was). But other than that shown nothing in the game time he has had. £4m would be a decent move for us.
  11. So it's Bent to us, Carew to Stoke, Fuller to Sunderland, Now that's a desperation signing! Couple of other worthy deals - Blackpool target Adam Hammill has gone to Wolves. I think could be a good signing for them Hammill And our long time target David Wheater gone to Bolton... Wheater
  12. My god I can't take until 4pm, it would be great if a few wandered out Taiwo, Samba and Bent - that really would be hilarious. This has to be the most unproductive 1.5 day of my working life. I just realised I haven't even sent an email since this broke. Awful. Off to bluff my way through a meeting before some good news hopefully.
  13. I tell you when the Sunderland thread does load up it is brilliant, only up to about page 7 when they realise it's true. Realistically he's got to be worth at least 5million more than they paid which was about £10m. Then there is the fact they don't need to sell. All in all we're not going to get a player that scored 20 odd goals for any less. Please let us tie it up today.
  14. This is a tough game and we have to win or we are probably in the Bottom 3 for a couple of weeks and that would be a disaster for morale and sanity on this board! I'd hope our defence perform tonight as if they don't one of Gyan, Welbeck or Bent will capitalise.
  15. A good piece of sensible journalism, always like Paul Doyle....
  16. This is hilarious. I had a similiar argument with a Wolves Fan about Carl Cort playing for England. SGC from experience never put any faith in a boy with the surname Moore that has excelled at Youth Level.
  17. I think he's got to go 4-4-2. I think Bannan over Reo Coker as said above Wigan actually try and play and Hogg can break up the play. Friedel Lichaj, Cuellar, Collins, Warnock Albrighton, Hogg, Bannan, Downing Gabby, Heskey Bench: Guzan, Beye, Dunne, Ireland, Reo Coker, Delfouneso, Carew
  18. Villa find themselves in 13th place in the Premiership. What do you think is a realistic target for Houllier in his first season. Anywhere from 7th-13th. How do you feel Gerard Houllier has settled and what do you hope from him as a manager I think he has done o.k particularly considering the injuries, you can see the ideas are there and the performances against Fulham and United were very encouraging. The football were playing is far superior to O’Neill but without the results. I hope that it ships out the deadwood and begins to build a squad that challenge the top 4 and deal with a European campaign around our youth. He needs to get a defensive midfielder and a finisher desperately. Do you feel that Houllier can get the best out of Emile Heskey Yes, he was fantastic before he was injured. But still is seen by many as awful… After Citeh came in and took two of your better young players what do you think needs doing to replace them. Is youth development an option or is the only way the transfer window. Well, Barry leaving arguably helped the balance of our team and really let Petrov come on. Milner was a massive loss: Downing, Young and the so far awful Stephen Ireland need to step up to replace him. Youth Development is great, but we need an established performer to replace him in the short term which hopefully will be one of those three! Do you feel that Robert Pires is an inspired signing or do you feel he is ‘over the hill’ To be honest we have no players and have lost points in recent weeks by being a bit naïve. It’s no risk and proactive from Houllier. Hopefully will show a bit of composure and experience which will help us. Liverpool have a bit of “history” with regards to American owners. Villa have had Randy Lerner in since 2006. What positives and negatives do you feel he brings to the club. Positives – He took us off our knees and spent money and put an infrastructure into the club. Negatives – None really, a few have criticised how O’Neill left but I think it was handled with a bit of dignity and how he went about hiring Houllier was also impressive. Some forget how much O’Neill did actually spend. I feel Villa fans are very lucky to be able to have contact and information from The General. How important for supporter/club development do you feel this has been and do you think it should be encouraged across other clubs Yes, it is great and it has built a lot of bridges with the club and the fans. Unfortunately some forget that he is a spokesman for the club and see it as their own personal soapbox. Hopefully it will continue and give us even more insight as he doesn’t have to do it. Martin O’Neill left at a crucial part of the season and it seems since then he is constantly being linked with the Liverpool job by the media as soon as an opportunity arises. How do you feel he would do as Liverpool manager, given the current financial situation and also with funds available. The way O’Neill left has left us in this position. It is a shame as the top 4 is very open this year and a good summer would have given us a chance. He would probably do pretty well, but I don’t think he would win you the league, when it got tough he wasn’t proactive enough and became quite predictable. Heskey for Carew or visa versa. I’d say you’d be better with either someone that understood your club like Nicol or Dalglish if you want to go that way or waiting for a top top manager to come along. How do you feel Roy Hodgson has done since taking the Liverpool job. The best thing going for Roy is everyone wants him to do well, but something feels wrong about it and he seems to be drowning. I think he should have done a bit better, as he has spent money on Poulsen, Koncheskey and Meireles. He as yet hasn’t inspired confidence. Other than Gerrard or Torres who would you take from the Liverpool squad and why? I don’t think you’re squad is much better than ours barring your two stars, Kuyt seems to pop up with some goals which is what we need. Other than that I’d take a couple of your youngsters Pacheco looks like a player and perhaps Wilson or Ayala who when I have seen them look like prospects. Last season we had two good games together with Villa winning at Anfield and Liverpool winning at Villa Park. Both games had “talking points” in them and I feel this is always the way with our encounters. What do you expect from this game. Bad defending, Good Goalkeeping and we’ll play well but throw it away and either lose or draw. And finally what would you predict as a final score for our game? 1-1 or 1-0 Liverpool.
  19. If I was Sir Alex and watched us defend against Blackpool. Hernandez if fit is definitely going to play: Think it'll be straight 4-4-2 with Hernandez in for Gibson from the team above. I can't see us scoring the chances Vidic/Ferdinand might give us, so an opptimistic 0-0 would be good result.
  20. He surely must be a bit of legend at Everton already - turned down Liverpool for West Ham and now taken a huge wage cut to come and play with his best mate. I think he's a good solid player who will give you a few more options down the right as well as cover in the middle - Good signing.
  21. I'm not bothered as I'm resigned to it but with him and Laursen going MON must do something special in this transfer window to even have a season as good as this one. Barry is one of our best players and it will obviously hurt to lose him. Mind you having him stay now would be like a new signing!
