  1. Hopefully just a sore one from crashing into the post
  2. Suprised but glad the ref gave yellow there They are 100% just going to start kicking us (even more) now, so dont want them to start thinking they can do it with impunity
  3. Corner routine for the chance just before was great as well
  4. Tierney's a muppet and is now going to be even worse reffing to the score
  5. What a ball from Dougie again and superb finish by Ollie
  6. Nice ball by Dougie and much better touch by Ollie
  7. Too open and easy to score against, especially at home. Kompany trying to run before he can walk football wise at this level.
  8. He only scored 10 goals for us, but that included the first time volley against Bristol, the ridiculous pass into the net against WBA, side foot top corner against Newcastle, top corner from a tight angle against Man U, top corner (albeit mishit) against Chelsea and then top corner from 25 yards against Leicester. Overall he didn't produce enough based on what we paid for him, but i still can't help but like him given his 'highlight reel goal' ratio and all the other mad stuff he did.

    Unai Emery

It was more the 'Howe masterclass, hopefully its something Emery has in his locker' comment that confused me, because Unai has clearly demonstrated he does here and during his coaching career.
  10. Brentford missed some really good chances this game
  11. Both Chelsea and Tottenham seem to end up in games where there are loads of chances at both ends. If Chelsea could actually finish, they'd be much higher up the table

    Unai Emery

Er have you not watched us over the last 15 months?
  13. To be fair to Unai, I understood the proud comment to be a reflection on the overall unbeaten (and mainly winning) run we've had at home, now its come to an end, rather than specific to last night. And i think in that context it was fair enough. Of more interest to me was his comments about how both sides setup to play the same way as they'd done when we beat them 3-0 last year, with the difference this time being we lost out more in individual duels and moments. I think recently we have had too many players displaying too many sloppy tendencies - there's the obvious stuff like passing the ball straight to opposition players despite looking straight at them, but there's lots of other little more subtle things that seem to have crept in to individual players games. For example, balls are being played into players, but the receiver is not showing well enough for the ball and making the movement towards the ball that is needed to separate from the defender. Even if they do get it and are able to shield it, they are wanting too long before moving it on, and consequently running into multiple players and losing it or missing the chance for the pass. All of our midfield and starting forwards were guilty of that last night; in contrast Bailey when he came on wanted the ball constantly, and put in the effort to make himself available for it, and suddenly we got going as a team. Then you've got the constant bad decisions being made like shooting when the pass/cross was on or vice versa. Earlier in the season we had the slow build up play, but then we would quickly go through the gears with some much slicker movement and passing, players would make that movement to separate themselves from defenders. There was intent both on and off the ball, and good decision making, but that seems to have disappeared for the most part.
  14. Our tactics are not unique and we've been playing the high line in particular for nearly 12 months. Teams haven't suddenly had an ephinany half way through the season and gone 'if we try this we'll find villa out'. We've played teams like Luton, West Ham and Fulham who showed little inclination to do anything else but sit back and hit on the counter, and stuck at least 3 past each. However all systems can be beaten if they are not well implemented. And that is what we are seeing now. Bad decisions, sloppy passing, and moving the ball too slow, which was not the case earlier in the season. Too many players are losing individual battles as well.
  15. There were a couple of instances early on that stood out. Both times the ball went into McGinn, and the first one he held on too long and was easily robbed setting newcastle on a counter. Second time he did roll the newcastle player, but then passed it straight out of play. Not necessarily a criticism of McGinn, but it summed up the sloppiness of us for most of that game
  16. The first 65 mins was probably the most disgraceful effort we've put in all season. Lost the ball cheaply repeatedly, kept passing straight to them or out of play, 1-11 we just didn't look bothered. 1st goal we had two players there and still the Newcastle player barged past them both to get to the ball. He simply just wanted it more. Livened up with Bailey and no surprise that when we pushed the pace we pushed them right back, but the slight offside goal killed all momentum for us.
  17. Hmm, actually playing with a bit of intensity and Newcastle can't handle it. Shame we spent the first 65 mins strolling around and making no effort to compete
