I understand the general message here and would agree that we have benefited from loan deals in the short term this season and last.

I would however suggest that Davis held his own for over half a season in which we finished 4th and made it to the POF.

Yes Abraham is the superior player but Davis really did show he is capable in the championship, despite not being a prolific goalscorer.

We didn't play over half the season with 10 men, Davis was on the pitch and was a presence and contributor.

    He did do pretty well.

    but... 1503 minutes, 2 goals, 1 assist.

Tammy managed 5 goals and an assist (in the PREMIER playing for a side that went down) in 1721 minutes.

I do wonder how Davis would do under the current system

I guess one could argue we don't need a DMC in this match, but wouldn't the rational thing be to substitute the box to box midfielders with a playmaker to resolve the lack of creativity? I mean we could throw the sink at them here, but it's not like Hourihane are doing a whole lot.

I do kinda agree with you mind.

I think the DMC has to be sacrificed.

They're satisfied with a 0-0, which really isn't good enough for us.

I prefer the whole attack is the best form of defence philosophy we've been using so far.

  3. It will be really interesting to see how good we are without Jack.

I know he’s not exactly topping the assists or goals charts, but he draws so much attention to himself it provides the space for our others players to flourish.

Really want to see how Smith copes with/adjusts for this.

What does Nyland have to do to get dropped? Assassinate someone?

Probably have someone more capable than him to take his place.

Bunn isn’t exactly a Buffon, and I have not seen a more incompetent performance than the one that Moreira put in in the one game that he played.  I know that’s only one game, but ad he shown any sort of promise during training - he’d be in.

As the old saying goes, in the land of the blind the man with one eye is King.

It's actually surprising at how competent he is bearing in mind he's only just turned 21.

So the poor season he had in the PL people talk about was when he was 19-20.

It's funny but I've seen our home grown players get so much support against all the evidence I've seen when they are that young and older, but because he's come from Chelsea people are very quick to criticise.

He's not even close to the finished article yet, not by a long shot. He's only going to improve with age and experience.

...because our home grown players won’t cost the £30-40m that some on here are seemingly more than happy for us to pay...

Only baggies who look at this as a derby.

I couldn't care less about West Brom, never have, never will.

Villa park to St. Andrews - 11 minutes by car on google maps.

Villa Park to the Hawthorns -12 minutes by car on google maps.

Id say this is a local derby.

maybe not THE local derby, but it’s a local derby

Did well again to create chances.

You're not always gonna score in every single game, not even Ronaldo and Messi does that.

Blaming him for the defeat is ridicilous. Nyland is once again 100 % to blame

    Waaaaaaaaaay off the mark.

Nyland is PARTIALLY to blame for that goal.

Blame percentages for failing to win:

    Abraham 10%

    Kodjia 5%

    Hutton 5%

    Nyland 10%

    the officials 70%

You have to try risks in attacking areas, though.

He keeps getting into good positions and will score shed loads this season.  However, he missed two sitters tonight and, ultimately, that has cost us.

You don’t HAVE to try a pass that absolutely isn’t on.

in fact, you really HAVE to NOT try it.

I've said this a few times.. but I don't think age should be looked at for loan players. Who cares how old they are if they are only with us for a season?

He could be playing championship football in 5 years or he could be playing for Real Madrid.. right now he is playing for us for one season and is missing way too many chances.

    Exactly this.

    What?

No, not one game. Every game of his Villa career he's been on the scale of terrible to average.

    He’s shit, totally agree.

But he’s had 2 motm performances.. credit where credit is due..

every OTHER game, he’s been total crap and cost us about a gazillion points. And that’s not even an exaggeration.
