  1. Grealish.

The lad buys SO much time on the ball. Defenders don’t know whether he’s going to ghost past them, or play the pass.  Allows our team to get into position and provide support.

clearly we shouldn’t be so reliant on one player, but Smith knew how to use him.  Without him we don’t look like creating.

McGinn, love him with all his running and endeavour the incredible use of his butt to keep the ball, just doesn’t have the same get your team mates involved by slowing the tempo down flair, and he’s been the Grealish replacement.

    We need Jack back.

  2. Bolasie, el-ghazi, adomah, green.

surely all 4 can’t be total shit.

we’re just not getting the ball to the wingers in the right places.

And, no - Hause and Hutton hoofs down the line is not my definition of getting it to the wingers.

Cause he don't know any better.

Smith needs to be careful too.. many more performances like we have witnessed in the last 10 games and he will be getting cabbaged too.

NB: (I don't condone the launching of missiles at football matches).

So u were in the Bruce out camp too then?

UTD's defence is poor, it's an area I expect them to spend big on so I don't see Tuanzebe getting much of shot there.

This is my take on it too.

utd will be looking to spend big in defence. Will pretty much kill off any hopes of him there.  We need to get his head turned and pretty much demand a move to us.

Whilst he’s been pretty good for us in the championship, he’s way off champions league level in my opinion - which is what Utd are looking for.

You could argue he is our 4th choice centre half so in that respect he could be a lot worse.

    I dunno you know.

i know he’s been playing with an injury, but Tommy’s looked better than Chester’s recent performances. Do miss Chester’s goal threat tho

id go Mings, Tuanzebe, Elphick, Chester, Hause

Remember, he is naturally a centre back who is playing out of position. He will get better providing we play him in his natural position, I thought he was ok last night, he’s a unit. I thought we defended well last night, a draw would’ve been a fair result in my opinion

I’m sure that given time he’ll improve.

    but

    1) we don’t have time. We needed left back cover. Actually, we needed a first choice left back. He is neither.

    2) why do we need to act like we’re a rehabilitation place where injured players go to get fit? We need players that are ready to go, but can’t get first team action where they are because of someone better in their place, or have fallen out with management.

    crazy loan signings.

And as someone mentioned above, right now he doesn’t seem the calm collective pass/move player that we all think we’re going to be filling our squad with.

maybe he is rusty.  But rusty players are what WE should be sending out on loan to get up to speed.. not doing other teams a favour.

You can’t tell me there wasn’t a left back in the world that we couldn’t have got in on loan instead of this guy?

I didnt say Davis was was a winger.

So you judge O'Hare on one game and one of his first starts.  He got motm at weekend.  You must not be reading the Hourihane thread on here because he gets ripped apart every game on here.  Most dishonest player i have ever saw in a Villa shirt.

Im at work so i dont have time to write up all the mistakes Hutton has made resulting in goal.  I'm a better player than Hutton.

It's all about opinions, and I totally understand where you're coming from.

I was also screaming out for O'Hare to be given a chance too, and although 1 game obviously isn't long enough to judge, he was very poor on that day.  I think this loan will do him good.

I've also been hoping Davis will get his chance too, but Tammy is more than earning his place at present - and we've not really been in a comfortable position where we can take him off and let Davis have 20 minutes here and there.

Maybe you're suggesting a 2 up top formation? And yeah I think I'd agree it's worth a go, but Davis and Abraham too similar? Would it be those two up together?

Horses for courses, but I'd take Hutton over Elmo. Personal preference, and I respect your right to disagree.

Are you telling me O'Hare (who is comfortable on the ball) wouldnt have been better than Hourihane.  Smith let him go.

Are you telling me Davis wouldn't be a better option to have on that Adomah or El Gazhi.

Are you telling me Elmohamdy isnt a better option that Hutton at RB?

Smith has took the safe option to avoid getting blame.  Now he can use the excuse the fans are giving him that the players arent up to it.

Davis is a centre forward, them two are wingers.

O'Hare ad one good game in the cup, then he started against Swansea and was totally anonymous, too weak, and quite frankly if Hourihane had put in that performace he would have been ripped apart on here.  He's either one for the future, or he'll be another one that is playing League 2 football in a few years along with some of our other "superstars in the making".  Dunno which, but he's definitely not ready yet.

Elmo vs Hutton - Elmo started a couple of games, gave away a penalty and a weak header that was a perfect cushion header for their striker to roll into the net.  He was actually worse than Hutton.

So... yeah.  I am telling you all of the above.

  9. I saw the shit last night.

I've seen the shit over the last 12 games or so.

    Its pretty dire.

However, I remember the good stuff that we played with the exact same team that Bruce left him - and it was a difference of night and day.

Losing 2 players that are comfortable on the ball have made a HUGE difference to how we function.

Quite simply we do not have players that are comfortable in doing what he is asking them to do.

Grealish and Tuanzebe both have the ability to step past a player and pick a pass to one of our own.  The knock on effect of creating time and space for every one else is a lot more significant than a lot on here realise.  The inability to replace them in the team isn't just Smith's fault.

I've seen enough from his arrival to know I like the brand of football that he brings.  Write this season off.  And get some players that can pass and move in the summer, and we go from there.

We're not going up, we're not going down.
