I like whatever we are doing in the attacking third as it’s seems to be working! We’re running defenders ragged.
I’ve never seen us create so many chances in games before.
Oh I totally agree, as you will see from my previous posts.
Just wondered what the thinking behind it all was.

you can quote stats Terry, but the game and its spectacle reveals all.
Dean Smith himself declared his frustration at their 5th goal.
We could easily have gone 2 down against Blues in the early exchanges and then we go 2 down in 7 minutes against Forest, its not a one off.
watching the game, there is a clear problem, when teams attack us.
These things can't be just dismissed or swept under the carpet....they are legitimate issues.
we have conceded 30 goals so far this season....with Middlesbrough's 10.....that suggests an issue to me.
Bolton... in 23rd place on 17 points.. have conceeded 12 (TWELVE) fewer goals than WBA in 4th with 34 points.
Infact, they have conceeded fewer goals than 12 (TWELVE) teams above them in the table.
Their fans must be well chuffed.

MON is overrated. Forest funnel worked for a while then we lost players and couldn't sustain his ridiculous spending on past sell by date players and he left us in the lurch. Did the same at Sunderland and look where they're at
Agree.
Mad some crazy decisions whilst he was here.
He was very well backed and did ok as a result.

On a side note...
What are peoples thoughts on the whole front three moving around?
I saw bolassie up front briefly, and Abraham out wide.
An then Kodj up front.
I'm not sure about the tactical reasoning behind this.
-
We are conceding fewer, and scoring more, against better opposition, than when Bruce was in charge.
Fact.
Oh, and that finely oiled machine that Smith was just a cog in... has fallen apart.
-
Still missing a few too many sitters for my liking.. but you can’t argue with him knowing where to be and when to be there!
in the premier league, he won’t get this many chances per game.
Im sure he’ll get better and better though, and his all round contribution is really really good.
i’ve also Noticed his encouragement to kodjia and bolassie to get in their right positions and press.. which I was really pleased with. Surely you’d expect it the other way round.
really really like his application.

But we have the joint worst defensive record in the league? Unless we are only going to judge our season from started 7 games ago.
Well.. this IS the Dean Smith thread.. no?

Will be interesting to see how long Smith continues to get this free pass from Villatalkers.
Anything good is down to Smith, anything bad down to Bruce?
That’s a no-lose situation for him for sure.
I will know when the free pass is over when the cabbage falls from the heavens.
Until the coming of that omen, I’m Staying in the Smith conga line.

Did Steve Hodge ever score a header for us?

I also hold Dean Smith accountable.
I hold him to account for the fact that we are bitterly disappointed to draw a game that we clearly should have won, that only 2 months ago would have been quite content to have drawn 0-0 after having been bossed by the opposition.
I hold him to account that we scored 5 goals, and but for a freak scenario where every time they hit the target they scored - we would have come out comfortable winners.
I hold him to account that we have come from 2-0 down, and again from 3-2 down where previously our heads would have dropped and we’d have given up and lost comfortably.
I hold him to account that even at 2-0 down I had every confidence we would score and get back into the game.
I hold him to account that I have not enjoyed a villa game like that for as long as I can remember.
I expect a heart felt apology from him and full explanation as to why he has given me my mojo back about football in general.
I expect him to tone this shit down, and get a more respectable 0-0 draw next time, and to provide protection to our keeper so that he doesn’t look like a competition winner.
Consider yourself warned Dean.

Wow, Bolasie was really, really good...
I think he meant Kodjia.

What a game!
What a manager.
5 goals scored, and could have easily been another 2-3.
Reminds me of Keegan's Newcastle.
LOVE IT.
I'd find myself falling asleep during Bruce's matches - but THIS... WOW.
I've waited so long for exciting football that quite frankly I don't care that we only managed to draw that - I have total faith that the defence will get sorted.
This can only be good for Aston Villa FC. Got a feeling we will soon become media darlings.

Never really understood the hate for SHA.
They give us points and weeks of Joy every time we play them. It’s akin to hating Santa.
Bloody love em I do.

Yes. But we signed him not borrowed him and we could afford his wages without FFP issues.
So not really the same situation.
Cahill @ £80k for 6 months is £2m. (I know £80k is a total guess, but thats what people have been suggesting so I'll roll with that).
We bought Tish for £5m. How long have we had him already? How much has he played? That's not even including his wages.
How I WISH we'd loaned some of the dross that we've bought over the years.
McCormack? Hogan? There's about £24m right there JUST in transfer fees. Lansbury?
We're not going to get Cahill, not because we shouldn't, but because he'll be in demand elsewhere.

On the Cahill subject
Wasn't one of the best central defenders we ever had signed when he was in his 30's, had knackered knees, but still went on to have more than 300 appearances for us?
Just sayin'.

I like him.
I think he gives us more than what people think he does.

Hilarious.

Lost his confidence.
Can tell that just by the fact that he's passing.

What i love about Dean Smith is that he never tries to shut up shop, get a goal, he wants another.
This is what we've all been crying out for.
Now that isn't always going to work, there will be times when we conceed chasing more goals, but I'd confidently predict that his philosophy will win us many more points than it loses. And it's infinitely more enjoyable to watch.
We are going places with this bloke.
Exactly this.
Bruce at 1-0 would have meant we try ton contain them, defend deep, and give away the lead.
-
Will we be there or thereabouts though?
I don't get why he won't just bloody tell us??

I'm not feeling the love for him.
Very wasteful, missed some sitters.
meanwhile, Grabban scores his 10th goal in 11 matches and has pretty much transformed Forest...
