  1. I doubt he thinks we are to small. Just that the club is in one hell of a mess - there's not much cash to put things right. I take your point smetrov i guess i am just getting a bit narked by all these poisonous little characters crawling out of the woodwork to stick the boot in to this club.. Yet with Liverpool they can't wait for them to take their best players or manager off their hands..It's laughable i mean really!
  2. So far as i'm concerned he has hardly jumped at the chance to manage this club now has he? So for me i don't want him here anyhow.. let him fester at the mighty Norwich City as i don't see any bigger clubs than little old Villa coming calling anytime soon. Fact is we want somebody long term who can get this club back where it should surely be & that is Europe at the very least so if he thinks we are too small for him then frankly he doesn't understand the job or have confidence in himself that he could achieve it & he is therefore unsuitable. Ditto Martinez too quite frankly they are the managerial equivalent of "glory hunters".
  3. I like the look of OGS i have to say. A great way to stick 2 fingers up to other certain managers & chairmen who appear to thoroughly enjoy a bit of Villa bashing with all the "Not big enough" & other derisory comments.. I am sick to the back teeth of them all clubbing together & belittling this club publicly just because we have had a difficult spell. So i really like this approach... Obviously it's a bit of a gamble in a sense but then it is with any manager...especially ones who have no real desire other than to inflate their own ego's as appears to be the case with many of our former incumbants & those recently linked. For me this club should steer clear of those who have either previously turned their nose up at the opportunity to manage this great club or have bottled the opportunity as too great a risk to their image. So for me if OGS is up for the challenge that puts him head & shoulders above the rest & for that alone he deserves a chance & i will back him & the club all the way should he come.
  4. 8m? Plus half player sales? So that makes what 10m? I mean who could we sell? Apart from DB of course for any real money as the rest have already been sold! Heskey, Cuellar gone for nothing anyhow so what player sales exactly? I struggle to see any more than 6 - 8m for any of our current squad except DB. So yeah.. Relegation fodder if thats the case.
  5. Brendan Rogers for me.. Cracking football & exactly what i want to see at Villa Park.. Sign him on Randy Paul Faulkner has clearly stated we are looking for a long term appointment to grow & develop the Villa Brand... Lets make it a quality football brand & have that right the way through the club from youth to 1st team.. Brendan Rogers is the man! I was at the Villa Swansea game & they made us look like a bunch of old men.
  6. The more i think about all this the more i think we need Brendan Rogers. Everything we need in my opinion. He would have a field day with our young players too. Exactly what we need in my opinion a real footballing man who could build something very special here in my opinion. So...Brendan Rogers....Randy do what it takes Sir! As for Paul Lambert well i like him though from reading this thread i just think he is too close to MON & already it is dragging up a load of stuff which i don't think would go away to be honest.. Good guy though & i wouldn't be at all unhappy if he came. Martinez? Well i just think he had his chance..Move on he obviously isn't really interested.
  7. Basically he said Lambert would deffo consult with MON as he loves him to bits & he knew that MON & Lerner had a massive falling out so MON would put him off coming here anyway. He said "don't forget there was a huge legal battle" etc .. Then the general jist of it was that Lambert would allow his people to talk to Villa as would be normal but that we were not really the threat as Liverpool would be looking very soon & had Martinez pencilled in thus causing a managerial merry go round... In short having had dinner with Lambert last night, he thinks he won't come here but may go elsewhere or possibly stay put.
  8. I don't think it will be Paul Lambert & here is why: Link: http://tinyurl.com/cxpfuy3
  9. I want a manager here who has the knowledge to not only bring in some overseas talent & the "pull" to get them to come here but also has the tactical awareness to counter balance the fact that we have less talent at the club than the top 6 clubs & are likely to continue to be faced with that issue. Lets face it we do not have the financial pull of say either of the Manchester clubs & Liverpool or the locational pull of the London clubs. So for me we have to compensate for this by having a manager with enough "pull" to attract players here. Based on this i would have to say someone with a big international image such as Rafa or possibly AVB? Other than that i agree our only option is to go with a complete restructuring of our style & go for the likes of Martinez, Rogers etc..to enable us to simply out play teams! One thing is for sure the kick n rush thing has been tried to death & for me is now old skool out of date football which nobody wants to watch. I don't mind that as a plan B however! After all Man Utd are past masters at it but you have to have the style option too in my opinion. For me any team will struggle to finish in the top 8 now with anti football which is a good thing surely? So 1.AVB / Rafa / A N other Manager with international "Pull" 2. Martinez / Rogers 3. Lambert
  10. Ok how can i put it I was hypothetically speaking slowly moving away from the club as regards my desire to attend games, buy merchandise & generally be bothered in all things AVFC as i had seen all this before. False dreams & a groundhog day kind of effect as regards our ambition, key players leaving, under performing etc etc. This whilst frustrating was kind of addictive torture to a point although under Ellis' latter years i was rapidly defeating that addiction. Then Randy came in! I was coming back to the club & as a former home & away season ticket holding fan of many seasons i was on the brink of purchasing a ST for the 1st time in a decade..But then MON left..so i hesitated.. Then we sold AY & SD, the squad was decimated & Alex came in & i took the decision not to bother..I had seen this before & kind of had an inkling what was coming so i saved my money...How glad i am that i did!! I went up to a couple of games anyway & OMG! What a load of complete s**t i witnessed. So i had lost faith in the new regime.. no communication from the board, Krulak disappeared, the football was dire & having endured 25 years of Ellis i was not prepared (no pun intended) to waste more time & money on lack of ambition & broken dreams. So i was indeed walking away from this club i guess mentally if that makes sense? Well the statement from Randy today & his actions have made me stop & turn back around..I am listening & watching again & i hope i will be given cause to start walking back to my beloved club once again.. Now give us some hope by appointing the right man this time, somebody who can attract a higher caliber of player to the club so we can challenge once again. Of course it will take a bit of time but lets have a new 5 year plan & this time stick to it hey? I love the fact that we have a top notch youth set up & young players coming through ..that's great & i hope it continues..but we need some success in the 1st team too!.. Forget the top 2 or 3 places, at least for now, as they are apparently out of reach (although you never know the financial fair play may just yet reduce the chasm) but surely we have to target 4th 5th & 6th? Show me your ambition matches mine & i will buy a ST again & please do not take this as a shallow threat this is just a fan saying it's about time this great club started fulfilling it's true potential & i need to now see that to make me part with my money in the depths of a recession. I know we are not going to win titles as yet but still there is a standard that needs to be met surely?!
  11. No sound byte just on the loop as one of their quoted stories.
  12. Reporting on SSN that Claudio Ranieri has said he wants the Villa job!
  13. I am surprised but delighted that Randy has said what he has. I like the bit about how the football & results have not been up to scratch & do not match our shared expectation for the club etc.. This firmly says to me that Randy is in complete agreement that the style of football & results were not acceptable to Aston Villa fc.. That is what i wanted to hear a unifying statement between club & fans.! I really thought that he would stay due to some sort of agreement having been put in place because the board knew it would be a rough season & therefore would back him regardless for another season at least. Well that's what i feared. I am delighted that this was not the case & my faith in the Board has been restored to some extent....Now they just need to get the next appointment right, release the financial stranglehold a touch to allow the new Manager to repair some of the damage that has been done to the squad over the last couple of seasons & we can start to dream again
  14. Just confirmed it on SSN! Said "a deal for the departure of AMC was close & an announcement expected today..Also Lerner in for talks with Faulkner tomorrow!
  15. Not so sure as it could be deemed he was having a dig at the treatment of McCleish from this.... CLICKY: http://tinyurl.com/7jd5oyy ""Norwich City manager Paul Lambert has shrugged off speculation about his future after he received the backing of Aston Villa supporters. Lambert has worked wonders at Carrow Road in leading Norwich from League One to the Premier League, and subsequently securing top-flight survival. The Canaries rounded off their first season back among the elite with a 2-0 win over Villa on Sunday and Lambert has been mooted as a replacement for Alex McLeish. His fellow Scot has endured a difficult debut season at Villa Park and fans called for McLeish's dismissal during the defeat at Norwich. Villa supporters also showed their backing for Lambert, although the Canaries chief refused to be drawn on the chants of the away fans. "Aston Villa is not my team. Norwich is and the Norwich fans singing it is greatly appreciated," said Lambert. "I understand what is happening at Aston Villa and I can see what is happening with the crowd and the manager which is never nice. "But that is out of my control - my control is Norwich and the Norwich fans have been brilliant for me." As for his own future, the 42-year-old said: "I don't really worry about myself to be honest. I just worry about the team. "Speculation doesn't really bother me - I just get on with it. You can never stop people speculating about your team or yourself." Asked if he would still be with Norwich at the start of next season, Lambert said: "It is a hard one to answer that because I have a contract here and everyone is doing great in their respective jobs. "I will get this season out of the road and then I will see what happens and think about what is going on and the achievements we have done and then we will see."
  16. Yeah & please can we have an inbuilt titty squisher too please
  17. Unfortunately i had to vote that i thought he would still be here..Hope i am wrong of course :| Just have a hunch that something is agreed between Randy & AMC giving him immunity whatever happened this season possibly barring a relegation that is but that didn't happen so :? Hope i am wrong i really do though i believe Randy took a decision to stop hankering to the fans demands after the somewhat embarrassing debacle with Steve MaClaren..It appeared he got a lot of stick for that & i think he decided at that point to take the reigns & do what he thought best regardless of fanbase opinion. Hence the McCleish appointment despite the protests etc. In all fairness at the time we were managerless last summer every name that was suggested was derided on here to some extent & in the end there were no options left! No doubt as has been said by many we will know more this time next week!
  18. Only thing which is now worrying me Harry is whether there is an agreement in place between Alex & Randy that he is bulletproof this season.. As in when he signed his contract it was known this would be a very difficult season..(hence the silence). Well under those circumstances if i was Alex i would have sought assurances that i would be given time to turn it around once the wage issue was addressed ....wouldn't you? I actually think that it was agreed that whatever the outcome this season Alex would be given the chance this summer to rebuild.. He would in my opinion have been barmy to sign a contract otherwise as it was certain we would be going downhill this season... This is why Randy the General et al did a disappearing act!! They knew this season was coming long before we did! So Randy comes armed with a budget to get us Champions League. MON gets close but buys badly & doesn't rotate the squad effectively meaning we tail off in the last quarter of just about every season he was here (& now identically at Sunderland i may add). So we miss the extra ££££'s from Champions League meaning the wage bill is unsustainable. Randy Tells MON we have to adjust the plan accordingly vitually guaranteeing a downward curve for a few seasons as we await contracts to run out etc. Mon walks as he will not tolerate his reputation being damaged. Houllier comes in to help steady the ship, bring youngsters through, reduce wages & provide a better style of football than MON's brand as the fans had shown their disliking of it... We never really see the result of this due to Houlliers Health problems. Houllier leaves & despite Randy's attempts to get various managers in he fails as they will not buy into the plan to decimate the squad & thus damage their reputation. So Running out of options Randy settles on Alex McCleish but Alex insists on a clause guaranteeing him immunity from the sack due to the poisonous nature of the post All & sundry know it is going to be a horrid season & the General steps down knowing he will be facing a barrage of abuse.. A wall of silence decends as the club batten down the hatches ready for the season from hell. 2012..May ..We survive by the skin of our teeth. Now Alex looks forward to the summer knowing the horrid 1st season is out of the way & at last several players contracts will run out & he can finally start to put his stamp on the team... You get the picture... This is just how i see the events of the Randy era. I reckon Alex won't be going anywhere as it was part of the deal when he signed.. This is why the club are so quiet on the issue... they knew all along?! :| I could of course be completely wrong & he will indeed be gone after Norwich away
  19. Surely the Villa job is a much better proposition now than this time last year? So whilst i can understand the likes of Martinez, Benitez & co running as far away from it as possible last summer it may be a bit different this time as we have hopefully "bottomed out" now? At least i hope so  In a sense this season was always going to happen & AMC was the only guy apparantly prepared to buy into it... This is the only way i can see him surviving.. As in if he & Randy had an understanding that this season was going to be a battle for survival & AMC took the job on the condition this was understood & he would be given another season to preserve his reputation etc & would be allowed to strengthen once the likes of Heskey, Cuellar & co's contracts hed run down. I do think the Villa job is now much more appealing as we can surely only go upwards from here? Thus enhancing the reputation of any prospective manager. I do like the look of Lambert i have to admit & would welcome his appointment.
  20. Watching him smacks of somebody who really doesn't want to be in their job..
  21. Paulo di Canio for me.. I think his passion is exactly what this whole club, which is badly suffering from "being run by accountants syndrome," is lacking! We need a passionate visionary to compensate for the dull efficiency at board level. (in fact i would say our current "dull as dishwater play it safe style" is now perfectly reflective of this.. The accountants hired a man who is cut from the same cloth as they are...Big mistake!) Paulo di Canio is that man for me.
  22. No not safe yet at all.. What scares me is the last day lottery effect & it's all geared up for being still wide open on the last day thats for sure.. Praying for a Stoke or WBA or by some miracle Villa win on Saturday to finish it before then as one thing is for sure..If it goes to the last day anything is possible as teams will know that if they can somehow win they will probably stay up..They will be very tough games for Man City & Stoke thats for sure!
  23. Lest also note whilst we are at it..Spurs are another team with a massive say in this relegation battle When speculation about Arry' for England was rife their form dropped startlingly This news of Hodgson broke yesterday... Spurs players knew Arry was staying & guess what Form improved & they won easily Just before we are due to play them too! Ok so are Bolton but you get my point..This could be viewed as evidence that these things do have an effect.. The FA should have waited until all relegation issues were resolved with regards to WBA involvement As usual grand incompetence from them! Still they only organise the Premier League so why would they know about these things?!.......DOH!
  24. I have to say i am pretty furious with the FA today. One of the teams who will have a direct say on this relegation battle are West Brom..We should know we just played them!! We got a point yes BUT... Lets just suppose they had found out just prior to the game that their manager was going to quit for the England job.... I think we actually may well have won that game as it would most definately have affected them.. we may not have done but we will never know.. Now lets put the boot on the other foot Bolton.. one of the teams we are competeing against for the relegation spots.. have to play..........West Brom at home next week.. Who now know they will be losing their manager at the end of the season!! How i ask is that fair?
  25. Not really as we would still have the goal difference advantage. Goal difference only has an impact if we finish level on points with someone. There is still a strong possibility (with the fixtures to come and quite feasible outcomes) that we will be level on points with QPR and 1 point behind Bolton and Wigan come the last game of the season meaning that we will be mindful of results elsewhere as well as at Carrow Road. ^^^ Agreed .. Today was absolutely massive for us & this weekend could barely have gone much better for us & at such a crucial time..It could easily have gone the other way too so a huge ...PHEW!! However! I really do not like the idea of going to Norwich still not knowing & potentially needing a result of sorts..Purely as i remember the monumental Co*k up at Spurs by McCleish on the last day. Lets be honest here..The last day is a complete lottery & i do not fancy buying a ticket for it with our managers previous results in such lotteries!! Just imagine it goes to the last day & we hear at half time Man City have had a player sent off & QPR are 1-0 up from the resultant penalty!! Not a situation i want to experience! So i hope that Spurs do Bolton & Stoke beat QPR to finish it....Or we somehow fluke a win against Spurs! Nearly there but not quite! The scenario's that would finish it before final day shoot out are: 1.Stoke win at QPR or We beat Spurs We are safe! Or 2.Stoke Draw at QPR & We draw with Spurs we are safe! or 3. Bolton lose to Spurs & West Brom we are safe! or 4. Bolton draw 1 & lose 1 from their next 2 & we draw with Spurs this would also put us safe!
