  1. Yeah thats my take on it too..Whelan was on SSN last night saying it would cost 2-3m to get him as he signed an extension i think last season or just before it... Also criticised Liverpool in a sense by saying he didn't think as Americans they quite understand football over here & they may not be willing to give RM complete control of footballing matters from youth level to 1st team & RM would insist on having that which could just be a potential sticking point...No mention of us though at all just that if he didn't take to Pool job he would love him to stay at Wigan.
  2. I think the problem here with the process is not the time it's taking to actually find & appoint the right manager..Obviously we all want the club to find the right guy & if that takes a bit of time then so be it... but rather the fact that we have a dog awful squad of players here that has narrowly avoided relegation for the last 2 seasons & we have just released another 3 of our best back up players in Heskey, Cuellar & Guzan so that squad is now even weaker than it was last season. OK we have Brett H incoming but he is a midfielder so replaces none of those 3 although was badly needed. So i think that is where the concern of some is arising from.. not the actual process of the manager search in itself but rather the urgency due to the state of the team underlying the whole situation.. It's a conundrum it really is.. We could find the right guy but even he may struggle with whats at his disposal player wise & he is getting less & less time to rectify the situation as each day passes. So this is in no way impatience or petulance at the speed of the manager hunt but rather genuine concern as to the current state of the team & the time it is going to take to sort it out. At least thats my concern. We also have the Euro's which will shorten the window for transfer activity to a point surely as one transfer usually bounces off movement involving another transfer etc ..Well the Euro's will clog up that movement to a point thus stifling the transfer market for a while. Maybe it won't matter ..who knows but i think it's this which is causing what on the surface appears to be impatience ..It's not, it's just fans who care deeply about the club panicking a touch i guess... At least thats my take on it especially when it appears all the main "young & vibrant" type managers are either showing more of an interest in other vacancies or a lack of an interest in ours! I want the right man..of course & if that takes some time so be it. But i also don't want him to be handicapped with a lack of time to assess the current squad, make changes & prepare for the new season :?
  3. I am now getting rather frustrated with this football club once again i have to say.. We have Liverpool = Moving in on Martinez = 1 of our apparent targets West Brom = Now in talks with Ranieri according to reports in the Telegraph tonight Lambert = Would rather stay at Norwich Rogers = would rather stay at Swansea Aston Villa = Randy Lerner about to fly of home once again for another 3 or 4 days with yet again apparantly nothing sorted apart from the fact all the best targets are not interested or are off elsewhere :? My interest level even in our new manager search is now dwindling pretty damn quickly... It's just so dull it defies belief! We need something to cling to here Randy!
  4. I guess we actually know next to nothing really do we?! Despite hundreds or pages of ITK's, Press reports, Hints, tips, Betting indicators & cryptic comments......We know a big fat 0
  5. Nah he's surely off to pool... I don't think we are now capable of attracting any one of any Ilk. Whelan just been on TV saying basically he ill probably go to Pool unless they won't give him complete control over football matters from youth to 1st team...But its totally different to the belittling stuff we got pasted with last summer....Oh & this!
  6. Agreed! I think i am right in saying most players contracts & many holidays end in June so we need to have someone in place by then surely? The thing that worries me is if we get another "i will asses the squad this summer" speech as this has been a major hindrance over the last 2 summers already De ja Vu or what
  7. Just in Breaking news on SSN is Martinez to meet Liverpool owners within next 36 hours!
  8. I wouldn't be gutted with either. RDM is in the Meh group for me , not the gutted group. You also have to be realistic about where we are as a club, that controls the degree of guttedness. For me the groups are Gutted Group Strachan, Mcarthy, Grayson, Clark, Holloway, Withe, Bruce, Bradley, Ince, Grant, Mcallister, Southgate, Wlater Smith, Neil Lennon, Mclaren, Roy Keane, KMAC, John Gregory, Mcoist Meh Group RDM, Bentiez, Curbishley, Hoddle, Hughton, Sven, Klinsmann, Zola, Ranieri Yes I'd take these group Lambert, Adkins, Martinez, Poyet, Avb, Brendan Rodgers, Di Canio, Moyes, Bilic, Rijkaard, Capello I agree completely with this richard.. & the thing is there are a lot of options which i think most Villa fans would be happy with.
  9. Dave Whelan has already said we are not big enough for RM So hopefully thats that in respect to RM The decision isnt down to Whelen. I may be wrong but isnt Martinez out of contract at this moment in time? If so, Whelan has no say in the matter what-so-ever. The blokes a gobshite and media whore of the highest order. ^^ This The whole "Whelan's derogatory comments re Villa" thing just doesn't sit well with me at all. Saying we are too small for Martinez etc..well WHAT THE F**K IS HE DOING AT WIGAN ATHLETIC THEN WHELAN?! IF THE 5TH MOST SUCCESSFUL ENGLISH TEAM IS TOO SMALL FOR HIM YOU SHOULD HAVE SACKED HIM OUT OF RESPECT FOR BEING AT A CLUB WHICH IS CLEARLY WAY TOO WEENIE FOR HIM!! FOOL! Sorry for the big letters just needed to get that off my chest..
  10. It does look like AVB would be a perfect fit actually & i would be intrigued if he got it..could be a tough one with our "stick in the mud dressing room" however which has it's similarities to Chelsea's...simply replace Terry, Lampard & Drogba with Dunne, Collins & Warnock & away you go Still any from AVB, Di Canio (Just love the vibrancy he exudes) Martinez, Lambert...Possibly Poyet, Rogers. One name which seems to have dropped off the radar & which i think could do a very decent job here is Owen Coyle actually. I know Bolton got relegated etc but he had them playing much better football than we were & they were unlucky in the end to go..another game or two would surely have seen us replace them!? Just think he has the toughness we need here & his sides always seem to be quite attacking too.
  11. I get the impression it is all nothing more than we approached him for a chat, his head was turned & he was caught of guard & was given permission to come to see what it was all about... He came wasn't offered the job & was then being kept in limbo a touch during which time it all "went off" over in Norway as the sponsor threw his toys out etc... He & his missus then discussed it & he made the difficult decision that the timing wasn't right for him & his kids... Same time gets a pay rise offered & has a love in with Molde & the spoilt rich guy who threw his toys out & thats the end of it all! Frankly i am now glad he isn't coming after that series of events as it is apparent who wears the trousers in camp Solskjaer & camp Molde...& it isn't Ole in either
  12. Just saw the interview with Lambert from last night & he seemed genuinely p'eed off when asked about his & Grant Holt's future's.. I mean Really angry.. I would be very suprised if it's him i have to say after seeing that. I can understand it must get frustrating being constantly linked with this job & that job but it appeared to have really gotten to him...Surely it goes with the territory? It concerned me a touch the way he reacted actually :? One thing that has put a question mark as to whether there is something in this after all however is grant Holt's transfer request.... Does he know something & wants out as a result?
  13. Agree. It makes things very hard when trying to approach candidate 2/3/4 - doesn't say much to them. Exactly, 'yes great interview Ole, but we got steve mclaren coming in tomorrow so we'll let you know' And the problem is, it turns the whole situation into a circus. If they want to keep things quiet, have a meeting with board, discuss, bring in advice, headhunt candidate, you find out he is free to chat, chat, offer, done. Instead we have See candidate one, ask him to wait, see candidate two ask him to wait, see candidate three, ask him to wait. Receive applications, go through them. Meanwhile, some candidates have jobs still, do they sit around potfuckingholing whilst interviews are held, put on hold, another candidate.. and so on. Defies belief, in a fast moving world such as football, we would drag our feet. Totally agree with this ^^^ You can tell our management recruitment process is straight out of the "how to recruit a new accountant" rule book.. This is how you recruit employees in an office environment not the flipping cut throat back stabbing world of the Premiership surely to goodness? Its a bit like letting all the cats out of the bag at the same time & then wondering why they all run away & hide.
  14. Grayson doesn't do anything for me either i have to say.. Martinez, Rogers, Lambert i don't think would come so that leaves who exactly? Rafa? Ok could work but i don't see Randy going back in for someone who turned us down previously & was demanding a huge war chest so a no go for me. AVB? Possibly but surely a huge risk? He couldn't get the Chelsea old guard on side so i think he would struggle even more with our "even more unprofessional than Chelsea" Old guard. Surely there is nothing in the RDM stories? Guess you never know but i struggle to see him succeeding here in all honesty. Struggling actually to see where we go from here? :? .. Plenty i would be happy with just don't think they would come here for various reasons.
  15. Now confirmed on ITV Link: http://tinyurl.com/ce3y7kt 11:31pm, Tue 22 May 2012 New Villa Boss Solskjaer turns down Villa job Last updated Tue 22 May 2012 Sport aston villa Alex McLeish Villa boss There are reports tonight that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned down the chance of managing Aston Villa. Reuters are reporting that Bryan Doogan told Norway's TV2 Sport “Solskjaer is no longer an alternative for Aston Villa. He has said no for family reasons. – Bryan Doogan, English Premier League spokesman TV2 Sport said the Molde manager told Aston Villa, who fired boss Alex McLeish after a disappointing season, of his decision following a dinner with Molde sponsor Kjell Inge Rokke
  16. I actually would be happy with any from Martinez, Lambert or Solskjaer though not necessarily in that order... The Solskjaer option does appeal however in a refreshing yet slightly concerning way.
  17. Saw this but really not sure about it.. Why oh why would Whelan have continued his "too little Villa" "how massive & wonderful Liverpool" drivel if we had met him Thursday & he preferred us to them?..Smells like BS to me.
  18. All this really does get summed up quite simply by saying... Are ye Gonna Solskjaer?
  19. Firstly & obviously to be nicely clear of relegation by getting around the 50 points region. Glad to see the wage bill finally clearing & would like to see this finalised this summer as well as a clear & new 5 year plan & footballing ethos put in place. I would also like to see us making a start on bringing in some faces to fit the new ethos & moving on as many as possible who don't fit naming no names. Also i would love to see everybody unite once again especially at Villa Park & this in itself will bring about better results at home. Lets get the atmosphere back (Oh & any news on that trial terracing thing) & not allow the like of Swansea to come here & call it a library completely unchallenged! Of course we have to, & i'm sure will be, realistic & if it is "Are Ye Gonna Solskjaer" then i fully expect him to take a season of steep learning curve before the results properly start to show.. So anywhere above 12th to 14th would be progress at this point.
  20. Exactly. Nothing has changed since OGS did his interview.... and he isn't going to come out of a Norweigan interview, in which he was trying to play things down, only to then go and tell an English media company he definitely isn't joining. He would of done that in the morning one. This is just a massive over-reaction by people who aren't paying as much attention to the situation as us. Lets see if we can find some more "he's not coming" stories & drive those odds right up :winkold:
  21. Not looking good folks LINK: http://tinyurl.com/bty5yw7 Ole Gunnar Solskjær says he will not be taking the Aston Villa job, but doesn't seem happy Posted by SPORT WITNESS on May 19, 2012 at 12:12 in Sport Witness FootballView Discussions. Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær says at this stage he will not be taking the managerial position at Premier League strugglers Aston Villa. The Norwegian has guided Molde to the league title and after the midlands club sacked Alex McLeish, he was asked if he'd like to speak to the club. Molde let him travel to England but wanted it to remain a secret. Of course that isn't what happened and it's made big news in Norway with the club being angry about developments. Molde even lost a long term sponsor yesterday as the hype reached silly heights. In a TV interview today covered by Dagbladet, the Norwegian said he's staying at Molde for the rest of his two year contract but appeared angry and frustrated with the situation. The former striker insisted that he had been given permission to speak to Aston Villa and was clearly unhappy with how things had developed in Norway. He was asked if he felt Molde still trusted him and replied 'Yes'. Despite insisting he's staying, he also said he doesn't know if Villa will come back and talk to him again. When asked if he plans to talk to the Molde chairman he said asked the reporter if they required to know when he goes to the toilet. Ole Gunnar Solskjær also said that he'd turned down several Premier League jobs and offers from teams in the Champions League, Molde are clearly desperate to keep him but it seems they may have pushed the manager too far.
  22. Very happy with this I think he is coming in at exactly the right time & with a long term plan provided he is given a decent transfer kitty he could be the one we have been after. Lets just hope he sees this as a chance for him to build his empire & not merely as a stepping stone to OT..Good luck Ole & well done Randy & Paul ..Now back him & lets go for it!
  23. That sounds very definitive for you Gazton? Know something? Hmmmn! Spill those beans now come on
  24. I doubt he thinks we are to small. Just that the club is in one hell of a mess - there's not much cash to put things right. I take your point smetrov i guess i am just getting a bit narked by all these poisonous little characters crawling out of the woodwork to stick the boot in to this club.. Yet with Liverpool they can't wait for them to take their best players or manager off their hands..It's laughable i mean really!
