  1. Southgate was twice the defender Mellberg ever was for the Villa, and he played in far better Villa teams as well.
  2. Dreadful window. I wonder what the response would have been back in May if fans were told we wouldn't have replaced Barry and Laursen by the time the transfer window had closed?
  3. With respect General, Barry was head and shoulders the best player at our club, and boy do we miss him. Delph may well become a fine player, but in my opinion, at the moment he isn't fit to lace his boots. They'll be many desperately disappointed Villa fans around if it turns out Delph is the short term replacement for Barry, and a lot of very annoyed fans as well.
  4. Never mind laughing out loud, read what I said. I said O'Neill has taken us backwards "these last 8 months". If you could quit the laughing Policeman routine you may see even see it yourself.
  5. If we finish any lower than 6th this season and go out of the Cups with a whimper I'll be the first to call for his head. O'Neill has taken us backwards in these last 8 months. If we don't pick up and improve this season I can see Lerner sacking him.
  6. 4-5-1 away from home, yes. 4-5-1 at home, never. Fans just won't put up with one man up front at Villa Park.
  7. General, in the last 12 months Villa have lost their two best and most influential players. The last time I looked we haven't even bothered to replace them, and the team is suffering. This is absolutely disgraceful. No other words to describe it. It's ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL.
  8. General, this calender year has been nothing short of dreadful for Villa on the pitch. How is it after three years of Martin O'Neill our squad is still threadbare and packed with journeyman players that us fans thought we'd seen the back of since Ellis had left? When Lerner took over we as fans thought this club would be attracting players who were a step up from the days of Ellis, but three years on players like Knight, Shorey, Cueller, Routlidge, Salifou, Harewood, Heskey, Beye etc are still joining Villa much to the dismay and confusion of the fans. We STILL haven't replaced our two best players (Laursen and Barry), even though we knew they were leaving (eight months and twelve months ago). Back in January the goals dried up for Villa, but who did O'Neill decide to buy? Emile Heskey - a striker renowned for not scoring goals. You couldn't make it up! General, this is bordering on the incompetence from Martin O'Neill. Just what the hell is going on? I can tell you now General, a lot of Villa fans are feeling cheated at the moment. If we go into the season with the squad we have now we're gonna struggle big time. I'm one very disillusioned Villa fan, and I know I'm speaking for a lot of Villa fans who feel the same.
  9. I think this thread proves how starved of success the Villa have been in recent years. If the younger element of our fan base highly rates a player so average as JPA was for the Villa then I really do pity them.
  10. Where the hell did we dig Allbrighton up from? What a find!
  11. What you digging up this pile of old sh#t for?
  12. Or, the players around him at Villa simply aren't as good as him. Yeah that's more like it, I think.
  13. Because we have seen whhat Barry has offered us in the last ten years? With Barry as our key player for a good part of the last ten years the honours achieved are: FA Cup * Runners-up: 2000 Intertoto Cup * Winners: 2001 Player of the Season * Winner: 2006–07 I think this pathetic record is no coincidence. Barry may be perceived as a quality player but imho he has never been a winner! Good bye, its time for a change! So it's Barry's fault we haven't won anything?
  14. And trust me, these anti Barry threads wouldn't exist if Barry hadn't have dared to look for a move after 11 years last season. Because of that though, every little fault in his game have been highlighted and exaggerated to the extreme, and all his fine performances this season have been conveniently ignored or talked down.
  15. Absolute nonsense. Barry's been excellent yet again this season. Familiarity breeds contempt, so they say. Only when Barry eventually leaves will the philistines realise how important he was to the Villa. Hopefully we won't be seeing that day for a few seasons yet.
  16. The thing that baffles me most about Barton is that whenever I've seen or heard him interviewed he comes across as a very intelligent man who talks a lot of sense about football and other stuff in general, and from what I've read he did very well at school as well. The only thing that seems to let him down constantly is his vile temper. It's a shame really as he has lot to offer.
  17. I always liked him as a player. Tenacious, with a 'never say die' attitude, but he comes with too much baggage these days, and is best left to go to the likes of Small Heath, who will no doubt offer him "one last chance", so desperate they'll be to get a big name player in the summer.
  18. On the basis of yesterday's performances I'd say that there were no fewer than 10 Villa players who clearly don't want to be at the Villa anymore. That's if you use your rather strange judgment.
  19. I'll be gutted when/if he finally leaves. Best player at the club by a country mile. Only when he does leave will many fans realise how good a player he is.
  20. Definitely A, though if it were on me I'd have the lion in just black with "Prepared" written underneath.
  21. They'll be tears in the slums of Chelmsley Wood tonight! :-)
  22. I don't give a **** about "derby" games - it'd be much more fun if they lost to Reading next week, then fail in the play offs. Some **** words removed have STILL got ribbons on their car aeriels from the **** Leyland daf!!!! Be better for football in general and Villa fans in particular if Pornodwarf closed em down and built a Porn Supermarket Same here. Couldn't care less about playing them - we're on a hiding to nothing whatever the score. beat them, and it's expected. Lose, and all hell breaks loose. Let them stay and rot in lower leagues where they belong, and watch the place implode when they f#ck up in the play offs.
